Currently I have the xbox adapter that outputs to VGA visual and RCA audio. I'm planning to get a new monitor to use that supports DVI. If I use the HDMI to DVI cable for video, can I still use the VGA/RCA adapter for audio or would I need to get an audio-only adapter?

@flatthead24 Yes, you can you just have to have the right cable, and it was never patched. If you're having troubles just buy the $15 xbox 360 cable to vga, it will work defiantly if you are still having problems.

To people having issues seeing the picture on LCD monitors: find out the maximum resolution of the monitor. Using a different display, go into your display settings via dashboard and manually set the display to that maximum resolution. That way the Xbox will display that resolution without having to guess what the monitor resolution is. I found my monitor couldn't "tell" the Xbox (360S in this case) what resolution to put out.

My xbox will not display on my monitors.  I tried an ASUS VH198T and a Viewsonic VX2250WM with an HDMI to DVI cable and there is no signal. All cables and ports work fine as I've tested them with other equipment. My dvd player works on the Viewsonic via the HDMI/DVI cable. My xbox was mfg in late to mid 2007. What could be the problem?

Now don't you tell me I'm doing something wrong.

My PS3 goes from HDMI to DVI no problem, but the Xbox slim will NOT do that with the exact same cable and tv DVI port.

I'll tell you why.

I tell the PS3 to output HDMI and it does, then I plug it into a DVI.

I tell the Xbox output to HDMI and it does, but when I plug it into a DVI the Xbox detects that it is being unpluged and put in a port that it does not know, thus it turns off HDMI

For sounds system, you need Optical/RCA Audio adapter and you need normal audio converter to convert the sounds from XBOX to your PC Speakers. with this converter, you can hook up your PC speakers to XBOX, and wallah! now you get the sounds from your XBOX.

The first cable is HDMI (from XBOX) to DVI (to monitor) cable. You can buy it from local electronic/games/console store. this cable is for graphic ONLY. thats mean you only can get the visual with no sound. this is because normal LCD Monitor didnt come with built-in speaker.

I have an HDMI cable running from my 360, into a HDMI to DVI converter that plugs into my 19" 5:4 format monitor. I get horrible letterboxing (black bars) on my screen when playing Bad Company 2, and I've tried every resolution setting in the dash. Still can't figure out how to get it to fit to my screen :(

I did the exact same thing and some how when i have the HDMI dvi cable and the RCA audio adapter connected at the sametime, my monitor loses signal and no picture shows up, and no sound either. i was thinking maybe it will not work for certain hdmi to dvi cables.
