yo the jettys at alabama point are gnar, but not always rideable, i live in B'Ham AL and i surf, i am orig from Huntington Beach, California and even the waves there are not always perfect, but this place gets some gnarly swell in the fall and spring with the cold fronts. this video is a great example!
I am a Santa Cruz local, but I lived/surfed down there off & on for a bout 6 years betwwen 88 and 96. These conditions are NOT rare for Fall or Spring and this was NOT a Hurricane. These days are formed by cold fronts moving down from Canada. The sad thing is these conditions only last a few hours- timing is EVERYTHING. E, SE or S winds blow 15-25 on-shore & build 6'-8' seas, then the front passes over head (it is awsome to see) it rains, the wind switches NW & you get this for a few hours.
i'm not like an excellent surfer or anything, but i went to alabama point or orange beach or whatever you call it one time... btw, my home break is pcola just right down the road... and there were 1 billion kooks there with nerf boards... wtf
Wow, that looks pretty rad.. i'm also from Washington and people dont know that its even possible to surf here, theres only a handfull of surfers, there must be even less down there.
I live on the Washington coast. I'm visiting family in Louisiana. I'll hook you up if you ook me up. How do you guys know how to surf? This mus be a freak thing huh?
not as freaky as you would think, the gulf gets some surf, just not always quality surf. Probably 60-100 days a year are rideable and 10-20 of those days are good.
was this during a storm? never seen orange beach go off like that

Of course it helps that the most famous Hurricane in many a year was approaching. Katrina was just off the coast.
