"We did it in Orlando, and it was a disaster. The problem was that 3 and 4 year olds were too young to utilize their abilities and personalities on the show, while the 7 and 8 year olds we had to use were not babies. The title didn't match the show!"

@tnawcwvictoria As contestants on the show, I'm not sure I'd call it a disaster. Like any game show, contestant selection is key, and there are 3-4 year olds who are very cute and charming, just like there can be adults on Wheel of Fortune who have a personality of a rock. I'm not disagreeing with Gene Wood on the 7-8 years old comments, but I don't think those shows were ever aired. I only saw episodes with kids who were of pre-school age, some worked (our episode was great!) and others didn't.
I was on this show when i was a baby!!! me and my sister Heather.. I still have the tape somewhere we WON!! I picked a stupid huge stuffed animal as my prize and my sister chose a slip n slide haha we could have chosen this big beautiful doll house.. kids are so dumb... but my parents got a nice patio furniture set.
Why give both players prizes and just end the game all together, rather than give the winner a bonus prize and/or the right to play a bonus round for more? No wonder this show was canned after a year.
This is a tough show to review. We always want our little kids to shine and have fun but at who's expense.
THe games on Baby Races being played for fun and not competitively is okay; it worked for Jackpot! However; the concept wears thin when you have to bring in 7 and 8 year old which makes to title a misnomer.
Fred Travelena is trying hard here; it's tough with young kids because you don't want to say the wrong thing.
Baby Races is harmless, good for kids but just not enough. 1 star.
Not sure where you are getting your facts, but they are wrong! Baby Races never had anything but children in the post toddler/pre kindergarten stage. The contestants on this episode were THREE YEARS OLD! Maybe the concept wears thin, but then again, so do your reviews. ONE STAR for your factually incorrect review.
Well here's what Gene Wood said in an interview:

This show was INDEED a Disaster

Loved the intros to this show. Gene Wood did an outstanding job as the announcer. Good show, too!

I was 4-5 years old when this was on the Family Channel (now ABC Family of course), and I wanted to be a contestant on this show SO bad. =)

I loved this show, bring back happy memories for me.

The announcer here is Gene Wood, same as the original Family Feud with Richard Dawson.

The BABY RACES game show was in the 2002 and 2003 FEAST OF FAVORITES list but didn't make the top 12!

I was on Baby Races. In 1994 I think. Was a little kid after all, can't remember exactly.

What did you win?
palmercomm 3 years ago
I believe a rocking chair, some lawn furniture and some robot thing. My competitor won a type of motor boat and some other things.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
Holy cow! They gave away a motor boat? You mean the kind with the beautiful models modeling them? WOW!
palmercomm 3 years ago
It was a really small one. Probably only about $400.
MacintechStudios 3 years ago
Probably didn't have any models.
