But by their own admission they have adopted a voluntary non smoking policy. The insult being, we had voluntary non smoking policies prior to the ban. Why must we be threatened with prosectition to force us to become non smoking, while they are free to choose to be non smoking.
But they are, or more importantly the bar managers are. Because the MPs voted for a voluntary ban, anyone that smokes inside any of their bars can be told to stop or leave. But yhey cannot be fined. Even if the smoker is not caught until after the event, the bar managers cannot be fined. A voluntary ban is completely different from what we have. Incidently, rebel landlord Nick Hogan filmed himself openly smoking in the Strangers bar, and no-one said a word.
Well according to Greg Pope MP this isn't the case, unless there's something I'm missing.
In his own words:
"Smoking has been banned inside the Houses of Parliament since the law changed (as it is technically a Royal Palace apparently it could be exempt from the ban, but MPs voted specifically to include it). There are four outdoor designated smoking areas for MPs and other staff in just the same way as any other large employer would provide"
Greg Pope is playing with words like all politicians do. He admits that because its a Royal palace it's exempt, yet tries to confuse you by saying they voted to include it in the ban. Their vote is irrelevent, the house is a Royal palace and therefore excluded. They have a voluntary smoking ban, British landlords do not. They choose to not smoke, we are forced to not smoke. It doesn't matter whether they smoke or not, what matters is their ban is self imposed and voluntary, ours is not.
It`s only a matter of time before school kids will be asked to report to their teachers, if their parents smoke at home or in the car and a fine will be imposed.
Its going to happen....Labours communists are everywhere and they`ve infected every part of our lives.
But I never smoked where I was not allowed (by the rightfull owner). If I smoke in a pub without the owners permission I am violating his/her rights. The issue is not about smokers smoking where they like. It's about property owners choosing to allow smoking within their own property if they wish. Something the two faced lying bloody bastards in parliament can't grasp.
I'm currently sub-contracted in the mechanical services re-design of an R&D building for British American Tobacco. They too have smoking rooms. Guess what...
They have normal extract systems the same as any other office. They're expanding because smoking's on the increase & naturally the nanny laws don't apply to big tobacco business which makes the government huge amounts of money.
This is genuine info. ASH etc, to be blunt, are f*cking liars.
Everywhere bans are introduced only two industries make profit. The tobacco industry through increased smoking rates. And the pharmacutical industry through selling their ineffective nicoshit. Not to smokers, but to health authorities who swallowed the ASH lies about people wanting to quit and so they squandered millions in taxpayers money stock piling the usless shit. And now struggle to even give it away.
Sorry Hairy but MPs can't smoke in the Commons, well not according to Greg Pope MP.
Check out The audacity of pope blog under the comments section of the "Latest poll put Labour on 53.6%" for an explaination.

I agree with you 100% on this, even as a non smoker I still support freedom of choice.
But its a common misconception that MPs are exempt from this law, for the sake of accuracy I think this myth needs busting.

According to Tom Harris MP they do indeed have a room called the Smoking Room but they're not allowed to smoke in it because of the ban.
I visit a number of MPs' blogs so I'll ask, would be nice to have a definitive answer on this.
