This is one of Jerry Lee's best songs ever, but this version doesn't compare to the original studio recording. You can tell the band doesn't really know the song very well since most of these guys were guest stars at this concert.
But The Killer with an unrehearsed band is still miles better than any cookie-cutter shit in the top 40 today!
I saw jerry lee in tulsa in 1974. I was 17. It was almost just a dance. You could sit on the stage. It got so crazy a riot started. I actually had to help him get away. a woman had him in a lip lock and was saying, "I've always loved you jerry." He was very nice. I picked up his clear plastic coke cup as a souvenir. In the parking lot I took a drink from it--it was coke and bourbon mixed 50'/50! Ha! that's him, I love 'im. Nice guy!
Don't agree russhird: far from being ruined, this performance is a real work piece art..... The "dick of a guitar player" who didn't want to soloing, in fact matches perfectly with J.L.Lewis piano and contribute to enhance Jerry Lee piano in the correct moment and at the rigth place. All fit pretty well, you can like it or not, but the band is really fitting with his piano and the song, as a whole, is really a hell of a perfect Rock&Roll sound.....
Lucianoestivill, is it possible that the guitar player you are talking about below is Stuart Adamson, who does the very good guitar solo on Rockin My Life Away, and the guitar player that Russhird is talking about is Brian May, who, brilliant guitarist that he was for Queen, seems to be out of his element on guitar solos in other Youtube videos from this Jerry Lee concert.
Maybe He talks about Adamson (R.I.P.), but I hear no "dick of a guitar player who wont stop soloing", at least, in this song.... Maybe He talks about May, but again, I hear no "soloing by a dick of a guitar player".... There's something interesting about May here. In "High School Confidential", He played pretty well and fits in superb fashion with the arrangements of the song. It's a pity a wire was out and He has to play a solo again in the second part of the song, but sounds FANTASTIC!!!.
