We piled up dirt on the exisiting soil. It was not that good. Very hard, compacted and weedy. So I just added soil from a local composting/yard waste place that grinds a nice blend of soil and compost for $21 a yard. I add my own compost that I make, so I've added a year or so worth of that. I'm a pretty much organic gardener, 80% at least. I did add a couple treatments of an organic garden fertilizer each year. I'd like to be 100% but there were a few bug issues the first year!
That is VERY cool! Great job!!! In your south side raised beds did you till up the actual soil or just cover the exsisting soil and bring in new topsoil? IF so, what amendments did you add to it- if any? May God bless your efforts!
