  • Wonderful pilot..great guys

  • das ging fast in die Hose

  • I'd love to hear/read the CVR-transcript of this particular landing, because... what the hell where those pilots thinking botching a landing so badly like this and actually trying to put it on the ground?!

  • This shoukd have been a go-around tye time the plane went past the runway threshold, since there the altitude is to high and would probably result in a runway overshoot. Then again the go-around disicion should have been made when the gust of crosswind caught it just before touchdown. Some really poor and hazardous pilot desicions were made on this occaision to be honest and realistic!

  • He should have aborted sooner, rather than trying to be a cowboy.

  • i guess the rudder pedals were inop.

  • Pilot must get a medal

  • @thomaskingtp In the USA you get a medal - in Germany you get an Investigation

  • @d4rkf1ght3r well actually usa gives an investigation too but if they find no human error they give a medal.

  • tak ten pilot musel žažít horkou chvilku.

  • das ging beinahe in die hose;)

    ich liebe den nordischen akzent;)

kann ich jetzt in BW leider nicht mehr haben-.-

  • Wow, how can those onlookers remain so silent until the plane recovers? I'd be going ''oooooh, aaah, ooooh'' as the plane lost balance.

  • i be like .. @dude this is awesome ! but i be scared at same time

  • Holy shit!!

  • now kids, thats what we call plane-drift-landing

  • Closest call on YT. Big wind, brown pants.

  • I want one pilot like this!

  • STUPID PILOT, he cant landing when is so windy

  • actually hes bad pilot should have known that the landing conditions were terrible and that there was too much of a coss wind

  • It was a women pilot

  • @MacMan4193 hahaha good piont woman and machine don't mix well

  • @Anderzy You came from a women, be respectful to females would you ? stereotype like you must end, now

  • @hafa123 Shut. waste yur time with sth. else.

  • @hafa123 Shut up. Waste your time with sth. else. We're trying to talk about bad landings. That was a horrible one!!! If it was a woman, and I believe it was, a 1st officer, that's it!!!! Now I must pat her just cause she is a woman ??? And WHAT? We came from a combination of genes, both from men and women...that's nature,..we're different, that's why we exist. Coming back to the landing itself, it was not stabilized from the beginning...should have gone around lng before

  • thats fucking shitttyyyy and then it goes back uppp ppl on that bitch are flippinnnnnn lol nooooo we jus hit the ground go backkkkkk plzzzzzzzzzzz

  • the pilot is drunk! haahhaha

  • oh, great pilot...they're still flying, the wind so strong.

  • The pilot is big malakas. What are you doing archidi? Just don't try to land if the wind is so strong. Go to another airport skatomalaka.

  • wrong runway maybe

  • Really nasty crosswind.

  • Great Pilot and lucky passengers :)

  • lol

  • RRRRRRRRRRRespeckt an den Piloten!!!

  • No no no, trat's so crazy, but you do it when you have crosswind (well i don't know the formal translation)

  • mistrzostwo świata

  • The pilot was a woman, and she was the co-pilot!

  • the pilot was an expert that he did not hit the ground! i'm very impressed! i hope everything ended ok

  • damn what a freakn crosswind..

if he had tryed to land he would have failed..

    nice going arround.. damn crosswinds (;

    pilot is a pro

  • @owner0007 All pilots are pros

  • @serratop hell yeah (:

  • That is INCREDIBLE video! I would love to have heard the CVR on this landing attempt - you know these cats were wetting their pants until they got that bird airborne again. :D

  • so did he come back and land the damn thing?

  • No, they´re still flying.

  • nice!!

  • @AllstarKing713 No, they are still in the air

  • Jedna z wielu w życiu ...

  • PILOT ARE PRO

  • the life was lost and saved in minutes!!!!!

  • The Pilot was an expert...

he/she saved all those passengers on that scary, crosswind landing

P.S. Sorry for my bad english... i'm Polish

  • Hum, I think not much of you are pilots... They deserve no congrats at all, they risk the lifes of hundred peoples by attempting a landing with a crosswind way over the plane capability. They should have overshoot way sooner and land on and other runway or airport. The only exeption would be a low fuel tank... still there every pilot should have a 45 min fuel reserve... and by going around this late, he uses way more reserve fuel than it would have by keeping it's altitude and speed for later.

  • HOlY Shit! the pilot is either amazingly good, or lucky lol

  • Think the passengers on the left side were shitting their pants when they looked out and saw the wing strike the ground and the plane go over the side of the runway?

  • should have gone around alot earlier

  • That is a real show of experience and pilot superior skills. Their regular once or twice a year training makes them capable of handling any emergency, such as the one shown in this video. Scary but I would like to extend my congratulations to the pilot and co-pilot. They are awesome!!!

  • That was a close one you can tell from the video that the wind was so strong it almost blew it over when the pilot tried to straighten the plane onto the runway.

  • WOW!!!!

  • I guess THAT is why they put those teflon runners on the underside of the wings!!

  • holy fuck!

  • wow so amasing the pilot have done a great job!!!!!

  • you can see how strong the crosswind was by the way the plane is crabbing on the way in. I wonder why they weren't given a different runway so that they could land nearer into the wind direction.....scary this don't you think!

  • ohhh shit

  • omgg eyy

  • Wow holy jesus! They were lucky

  • wow!

  • "Das ging beinoh in die ho use" :)

  • he shouldnt even tried to land it

  • The pilot was a woman. She did a amazing job saving the airplane and securing all the passengers to safety.

And what do you expect them to do, keep flying till the gas runs out? lol, they have to land at some point.

  • i would think they could have gone to another airport

  • Yes. This storm was over entire Europe. The next "good" Airport was Milano. I am sure after this, airlines and Captains will think twice, before getting airbourne during such a storm...hopefully.

  • exactly what morons

  • that is, actually, not true. the pilot was woman, but she was a co-pilot a she was landing it, but she was not supposed to in those conditions, and the captain took over the plane when she nearly crashed it....

Pozdrawiam

  • That pilots got skills ;) But they must have that to trust them when u are in the air =)

  • wow!!!! man id be freakin out all over the frekin place!!! awsome pilot tho!!!

  • it was a female pilot... good job *thums up* respect

  • good pilot one,lucky plane,fucking wind...

  • loool, totally

  • verdammt gute piloten

  • apparently you don't have any knowledge of airplanes. This is certainly true. I had even heard it on the news.

  • wow close one

  • Crossing wind

  • What a fools

  • Its crowd of that video in youtube. :)

  • WOW ! speachless of the command and the skill of that pilot.!! God bless!

  • This is exactly what I would've said

  • These are pilot......

  • the pilot was an expert, he saved lots of lives that day, God bless him!!

  • she, her!

  • It was due to high winds on that day.

  • holy crap, that was close

  • great pilots didnt lost control oO

  • never drink and fly lol

  • I WOULD FUCKING HOOP MYSELF !!!!

  • to the best of my knowlage, the pilot is a young blond woman from Poland

  • Who gives a shit even if her pubics were dyed blod too!?It doesnt affect on her piloting abilities does it?

  • In reply to milkah123

  • now lets see whos gonna try and tell us all how the pilot fucked up,, even though they would know shit!

  • jesus christ if i was on that plane id shit my pants

  • wow thats good if not for him oh my gosh they would be crashing

  • close call

  • holy shit, but pilot should not of made an aproche after they saw how much rudder they need, just plain crazy!

  • Totally agree, was in something similar in January 2008 at Newcastle airport but we never quite got that low!

That must have been one scary moment, I know it was on my plane but at least the pilot in mine had the good sense to abort before it got that close!

  • holy SHIT

  • jeez... this pilot is damn good

  • Yes.. Both damn good, and dam lucky also..

  • The winglet was probably destroyed but it will be a great lesson in aviation schools.

Amazing. This ain't Flight Simulator, this is real hardcore situation with a big boy plane!

  • the hijacking comment was really funny and stupid:)!!

  • The pilot is a god

  • that is a good pilot crap that was close

  • Someone Give That Man A RAISE!!!

  • It was a Woman. A 24 year old Lufthansa F/O that landed the plane.

  • pilot is a god....

  • crazy!

  • That was close! Great save!

What happened to to the right aileron application? It looks like it was applied after the plane was blown too far to port.

  • smoothy landing?

  • The pilot is a Master!!

  • yeah and fucking lucky to still be alive xD

  • Erm ...no...A strong wind by mother nature....not muslims...

  • Oh. I guess it was some English-speaking (probably Americans) sucking soooo much that that poor plane fell nearly out of the sky.

  • And some muslims took away the propellers and installed jet-engines. In the air. Yes. That's true!!! It was in the media! Really!

  • YEAH, muslims brought the wind! you are crazy

  • watch?v=qQuhLclfskM

  • No wonder he almost crashed, his propelers have dropped off.

  • O.o right

  • idiot it a jet!!!!!

  • yeah right. the a 320 has propellers: zero

  • Everything with the approach was great, just that gust just before touch down really caught everyone i think.

  • Erm ...no...A strong wind by mother nature....not muslims...

  • he saved it i would fly with that pilot an day

  • Bet the shuttle would not land in those conditions

  • I live in Hamburg within the approach area of rw 33 which was the alternative to rw 23 the airbus was trying to land first. From my house I could see that almost every plane was shaking really heavy - so the mess could have been happened anyway. Thank God all went out well!

  • ahh yes, and they landed on the other runway. without any problem

  • they got an unexpected windburst under their right wing, so no pilot error or what else they say in the media, despite the fact that in such a weather situation, the Captain must perform the landing, not the younger first officer.

They were lucky the engines were not on idle...

  • In the news said that the woman co pilot averted the accident. To me, nearly causing damage, because when touch the main train on the runway, not crush the plane, allowing the wind to lift his right wing ... There starting the incident. Thank God it was only that.

  • that was my dad flying that air plane but he sayed ther was a great tale wind so it mad him go left right

  • ¥T

  • what really happened:

the young female co-pilot flew this plane until the wing touched the ground THEN the captain took over and prevented a crash!

  • well it sounds weird that a woman nearly made a crash and the man prevented it, but it is a matter of fact. (source: german newspapers)

  • how did they land the second time? the wheels must have been smashed?

  • pilot made a damn good recovery

  • Questo è un pilota di altissimo livello che riesce a mantenere in volo l'aereo piu' grosso del mondo con quel vento da record in germania

  • Screw being on that plane. How many people craped themselves :O good pilot though and being a gamer I think strafing shouldn't be advised when you tryin to land a huge plane like that.

  • METAR was: EDDH 011220Z 29028G48KT 9000 -SHRA FEW011 BKN014 07/05 Q0984 TEMPO 29035G55KT 4000 SHRA BKN008

Thanks for the METAR! I suppose they tried to land in 33, didn't they? Or it was in 23? Just to know where it was. With that info we'll be able to know what was the gusty crosswind component and know if they were out of limits. Any of you are an Airbus pilot. Think that Fly by wire works differently than the Flight Controls for a Boeing, for example. They do not recommend BIG CONTROL INPUTS!

  • Oh I misunderstood... I thought you implied that it's dangerous to fly. I see I was in error. You're point was that stuff like this happens often and is not that big of a deal?

I agree... I've landed in SF plenty of times and we get some good wind too. It's just what we deal with.

  • wow they're showing this alot arent they... i thought i'd seen this video along time ago but apparently this just happened recently hmmm

  • cochranexyz, don't you understand that it's even more likely that something terrible will happen if you drive.... anywhere.

  • top gun nigga

  • hasn tokin no sense at all! who does he think he is? pro pilot? it was obvious, crosswind was to blame.

  • "Dat ging beinah' in de Hose!"

Oh je, der hamburger Dialekt ist schon brilliant x)

  • yo, find' ich auch. Brilliant, ich versteh's sogar in der Schweiz :-)

  • But you know that there was a hurricane, don't you?

  • this pilot deserved an award he saves a plane and the passengers for cm

  • he was 39 Years old, the co-pilot was 24.

    imagine that! :O

  • Lufthansa's dry cleaners will have been busy.

May not have left skid marks on the runway but guarantee more than a few left in the flight deck and passenger cabin. Pucker factor 8.5+

  • This near-crash is a typical pilot´s fault - it has nothing to do with gusts!

After pushing the left rudder to align the aircraft with the runway before touchdown, the right wing accelerates and produces more lift with a fatal consequence!

  • The pilot did an excellent job of not crashing and killing every one. The 160 MPH winds pushed the wing. Hasn has no idea what he's talking about.

  • i used to be a flight attendant, and i know that i would have been scared as sh*t...especially taking off again for another go around.

  • 160MPH winds ????????????????

    METAR was: EDDH 011220Z 29028G48KT 9000 -SHRA FEW011 BKN014 07/05 Q0984 TEMPO 29035G55KT 4000 SHRA BKN008

Do you know what you´re talking about?

  • As a pilot I have landed in 40kt winds and on Saturday had a 20KT 90 degree cross wind. That 150 MPH had me calling BS (Blowing Snow). I was going to look up the actual observed weather. I imagine it was a bigger gust than 55kt that hit the plane over the numbers, but definitely not 150 and 100 seem highly unlikely, still a BIG wind, full rudder wasn't enough.

  • Well, the point is that he saved the plane and all the lives. It could be said that it was pilot's error if the thing crashed but it didn't.

  • To crab the aircraft in at that angle isn't unacceptable in itself. The problem is that to correct the angle just before touchdown you have do kick in a lot of left rudder. School boy stuff that we all know is that the secondary effect of this (yaw) is roll (to the left). In this case with such a significant crosswind the right wing is then pitched up into the crosswind resulting in the loss of height and significant movement to the left.

  • I think he did an absolutely incredible job of recovering from a landing he never should have attempted in the first place (notice the crab angle he was maintaining on final). I understand he had a more favorable runway available? Maybe he should have used it, rather than trying something that almost ended in tragedy.

  • Any of you here making these comments Air Carrier pilots. Be careful when judging!

  • I was for 7 years.

  • All airplanes have a max cross wind limit set by the manufacturer. The airline would reduce that limit also. The winds were gusty with gust most probably exceeding those limits. Even with the correct technique, staying centered down the centerline and dipping the wing, kicking the rudder would have made for a near impossible landing. I would have diverted. Scary!! and Irresponsible!!

  • I wonder if the pilot(s) even broke a sweat during this.

I always wonder if pilots are struggling in the cockpit when flying in heavy turbulence.

  • Indeed - it's quite shocking that he didn't abort. I found Lufthansa's claim that the wingtip strike was due to a 'sudden gust' rather amusing. It looks like he gets a little gust on flare, but the real problem is that he kicks the rudder to straighten for the flare and forgets the second flying lesson he ever had .. the secondary effect of left rudder will be a left roll. I doubt the aviation authorities or the airline's chief pilot will miss that point.

  • that was more than just a roll from left rudder at the last second. There was clearly an enormous gust just as he did it. it was pretty much the most unfortunate perfect timing there could have been.

  • didnt come down heavy enough, wind blowing him all over the place..maybe flight plan was for better weather landing

  • damn how scary must it have been to be onboard while that was happening

i actually know whats happenin aerodynamically since ive been taking aerospace classes the last 3 years

    yay me

  • halt ichs aus... aber so quer hätt ich gar nicht erst angefangen zu landen!

  • A normal landing is a result of getting the plane close to the runway and reducing then airspeed until the plane stops flying and drops onto the runway. Gusting winds push the plane around while also oscillating its airspeed above/below stall speed. Very dangerous but it appears to me the plane was too high/steep when the the touchdown was attempted, probably due to the gusting wind. The pilot may be a good pilot, but he was certainly lucky. He should have aborted earlier.
