It was mainly ripped off from the 1999 Japanese Horror film "Audition" created by Takashi Miike, considered one of the most disturbing films out there. Apparently, mirror is another word for cocaine as I have read on a website. But anyway, When she couldn't force HIM to stop, she started going after his friends and brother, trying to get them to stop to influence him to stop. She believed she was doing what was best, but Gerard wanted no part of it. It makes sense.
