  • I'll get it together with shiba drive in a few days. Caaaaan't waaait:D

  • Sounds REALLY awesome at the low gain levels... Want!

  • @spicbuddha Thanks man yeah it's an awesome pedal in my opinion.

  • omgggggggggggggg im looking for this sound witht the same amp!!!!!!!!!!! sick dude, whats the chance this video exists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaa

  • @irockyouroll LOL :) go get one today! :)

  • I'm known to babble about pedals as well. :) The other day we were in the studio and I was going on about how "transparent" my new overdrive pedal was, switching it off and on. Then I realized it wasn't even plugged in!

  • @ramonaHQ DOH! LMAO thats hilarious - hahaha - sounds like something I would do... Can't get any more transparent than that eh?! awesome - you just made my day with that one :)

  • Less talking more playing. ;)

That pedal is a bit too gainy fore but sounds great.

  • @ramonaHQ LOL - Yeah I know sorry! I tend to ramble... Its a high gain pedal fo sho but it does its thing well.

  • BTW, do you also like thhe Cmatmods Brownie? I'm looking for a great crunch pedal and I'm considering the new MXR badass 78, a Blackstar HT pedal or some other boost pedal like Kokomo boost or the Xotic AC or something. Any ideas?

  • @harryscarey I actually am not familiar with any of those pedals unfortunately. I really like what I hear from the Shiba Drive and the Koko Boost - those are supposed to be really cool too from Suhr. Other than that, I'm not super versed BUT I absolutely love everything I've heard from Love Pedals and they have a lot of different pedals to pick from too and they all sound fantastic - again, from what I heard on YouTube so I would highly recommend checking those out as well! Good luck!

  • LOL. I normally have the BB gain AT 12 or 1 o'clock where I haven't noticed any of this. Will look closer to see if I can hear some of this planking. ;-)

  • I have received the Riot and I think it's great. Nice addition to the warmer BB Preamp which I still like very much too. Replaced all the tubes in the renegade with JJ tubes which removed all the harshness of the sovtek tubes, especially at low(er) volumes.

  • @harryscarey Yeah I love the BB too, but the one thing that bugs me about it is you can still hear the clean guitar signal faintly underneath the gain... which works well and it sounds fat and warm for sure... Not sure if you experience that or not...? Like if you have the gain up about 9 o'clock say and you hit a single note really hard on the D or G string you can hear the "plank" of the string for lack of a better adjective... LMAO

  • Just ordered one. I have a BB Preamp which is great for overdriven stuff. I use an Egnater Renegade and love the clean channel. I like the lead channel but I do think that for big lead I will like the Riot more.

  • @harryscarey Yeah you'll love it - sounds great with the Egnaters.

  • Sounds a lot like the dist. channel from my mesa dual rectifier

  • @jlevinson100 Its a great sounding pedal... Sounds like an amp more than any pedal I've ever heard.

  • Hehe! I've been thinking about getting this pedal, and without knowing it was you I clicked on this review first. Haha!

  • @Wallimann It was fate that drew you to me! I have that effect... LOL ;) its a great pedal for sure... You'd love the Shiba from Suhr as well if you've not checked it out yet. It's got less gain, but they both sound great.

  • @vaisatchatrucci Yeah man. I just ordered a Riot yesterday. Should get it later this week. Thanks for the review!

  • @Wallimann Great! It sounds fabulous in front of the Eleven Rack. I actually uploaded the "clean" amp presets I used in the other demo video with the Riot, OCD and BB Preamp to the 11R presets site but if you have the expansion pack, you can get much better clean tones with the Matchless and Bogner too for a warm solid foundation for the Riot. Let me know what you think when you get it! Theres a dip switch which I didn't cover much but I gravitate towards the middle position. Keep me posted!

  • I didn't want to believe the hype, but that thing sounds terrific

  • @ebeatworld It really does and obviously this isn't quite the best recording of it either - the Eleven Rack video where I run it into the front of the Eleven Rack really gives you another perspective as it's recorded direct but you can still hear how great the tone is - my favorite high gain pedal ever no question. Thanks man I appreciate you checking it out!

  • Thanks man! You did a great job!

  • @RickAlaite Thanks buddy! :)

  • Great demo ~ and what a nice surprise to hear a King's X riff in there! Awesome!

  • @draelyc Thanks man! :) yeah love Kings X!

  • anyone know what a riot sounds like through a pod 2 clean channel? nice king's x at 1:44 btw.

  • @Andinator Thanks bro :)

  • @TheFusionshredder Thank you! :) no - although I do wish I owned one but too rich for my blood! It's my Ernie Ball / Music Man JP6 though not sure which one of the two I have... I presume the green one which sounds a little better than the mystic dream colored one. Thanks again! :)

  • this pedal sound awesome, so does your fingers man!

  • @punkybrewsterrr My fingers thank you! :) thanks brother - nice of you to say!

  • Awesome chops bro!

  • @majrag1 Thanks buddy - I appreciate the kind words! :)

  • Great chops my friend, great demo and great user name!

  • @wpaone and great friends! thank you kind sir!

  • good demo, i appreciate you showing off the versatility of this pedal... cheers

  • @nzCdog Thanks and thanks for watching! :)

  • Help me choose: I'm planning to buy Suhr Riot, but I just saw a video of Visual sound's Jeckyll & Hyde. Anybody here experienced using both? which has better tone? (disregard the price). Thanks!

  • @moronslave Sounds more versatile for sure (the J&H pedal)... Tone is really subjective though and a bit like comparing Mesa Boogie to Marshall - both capable of great tones but which one resonates most with you? thats the one you should go with. Use the force Luke. :) I mean your ears!

  • @vaisatchatrucci Hey brother, I just ordered one of these today, along with a couple of Wamplers. lol.

  • @psychocreep73 Awesome! you're all set!

  • @psychocreep73

Hey, me too!!! Suhr Riot and Wampler Ecstasy. Hard to beat that 1-2 punch;)

  • @giantrobot9000 Great combo right there brother!

  • Crap... you just added more fuel to my GAS. I stumbled on your vids because I've got an 11R on order. I've been VERY happy with my OCD -- but your vids have got me thinking I "need" a Suhr. The OCD has a very disinct mid-range roar to it that I like. How would you compare the feel of the OCD to the Riot when used with low gain and high level.

  • @redlabel69 LOL sorry! They are VERY similar, but the Riot has something more that really resonates with me from a feel perspective and it seems a bit smoother tone wise. It's also got this lower end tightness that I love - almost feels a bit compressed or something but it's just slight - however slight enough to make me a bigger fan of that over the OCD. I won't be getting rid of my OCD or anything, but with my guitar and pickups, the Suhr just seems like it was made for my style of playing.

  • @vaisatchatrucci I agree with you on the OCD. I'm not getting rid of it !! But i do intend to pick up the Riot for some high gain possibilities. Right now, I use a Boss DS-1 modded by Keeley for my heavier stuff, but I intend to upgrade to the Riot soon.

  • @getvicky13 Yeah the more tools the better, there will never be an all-in-one solution for me personally - there's just too many great pedals out there. The Keeley stuff is great!

  • Thanks man..I own rebel 30 112...been struggling with getting the tons I'm looking for...your demo really helped because you were detailed and honest. I ordered a riot pedal about 30 minutes ago, let's see how it gies...question, what do you use for your clean tone ( eq pedal or anything?)...I've not been getting the sound I want ( perhaps depth is the word? ) I found something useable today on the gain channel ( low gain, guitar volume 1/2 way, touch of reverb)...so any ideas/advice is appreci

  • @fatherofusall Yeah man no problem! Clean channel just used it as is without any additional EQ or anything and it was a good foundation for using gain pedals. I didn't really ever experiment much with the clean channel but I thought it sounded pretty good. I had to sell it to help fund the 11R purchase unfortunately but I'll have another one at some point :) Let me know how you like the Riot!

  • I want one... But i don't have £165....

  • @Utorak007 The never ending saga of all guitar players... to much gear never enough money...!

  • hehe...Over My Head. Nice tone.

  • @karlhouseknecht Good 'ol Kings X baybay! Thanks bro very much :)

  • just bought one off ebay...can't wait until it comes in. Great review btw :)

  • @skleung Awesome! You'll love it! Thanks too - I appreciate it! :)

  • Got to have one of these! Great playing, guy and a really well-done demo! King's X is one of my faves, too.

    Wish I had your chops!

  • @dohootowl Oh you'll love it I think - It's a really nice sounding gain. Thanks bro - pick one up and I'm sure your chops are fine right where they are! Keep on truckin!

  • Hey vaisatchatrucci, thanks for the NEW CHORD!!! It sounds really cool! I´m definetely gonna use in the future! Thanks again!!!

  • @jakerowguitar Oh yeah! No problem - my favorite chord other than:

    E - 2nd Fret

    A - 4th Fret

    D - 4th Fret

    G - 3rd Fret

    B - Open

    E - Open

Aw yeah... Arpeggiate that bad boy and there's some good 'ole George Lynch goodness to be had by all. LOL ;)

  • Hey vaisatchatrucci, very cool demo! Anyway, what powerchord did u play in 01:51? Thanks

  • @jakerowguitar Thanks man :) I have no idea what it's called technically because I am musically illiterate but its basically :

    A string - 3rd fret

    D string - 1st fret

    G string - 3rd fret

    B string - 4th fret

Its almost the same shape as the "Hendrix" E7#9 chord but you flat the 2nd note and I think it sounds cooler though it may actually be the E7#9 shape in the actual song I don't know but its more fun to play too - LOL

  • @vaisatchatrucci -- sounds like the tune is "Over My Head" by Kings X. I would spell that chord as a Cm7. And move your pinky back the to 3rd fret and there you have a Cm9 chord!! Nice playing, cool demo. Thanks.

  • @roblues1 See I learn something everyday! Thanks brother :)

  • As far as a high gain lead sound, do you prefer the pedal or the Rebel 30? I have the same amp and so far like it's sound over a pedal's, but haven't tried the Riot in person.

  • @slapagroov Thats tough, i really like them both in their own way, but I LOVE the Riot so I'd have to lean maybe a bit towards the Riot and keep in mind it really only sounds as good as the amp you are running it into. Like with any gain pedal, you need a good warm fat foundation and the Egnater amps definitely give you that.

  • Okay, this pedal sounds great, but I hate when people demo a pedal and refuse to take the gain past halfway. It's like, "oh God, I can't take that much GAIN!!!!" TURN IT UP people! 1 o'clock on that pedal is not really hairy. Where you put your tone knob helps determine on how "hairy" the pedal sounds.

  • Lost in Germany! Awesome!

  • @slapagroov :) I love Kings X...

  • @vaisatchatrucci yeah, me too! Awesome band. They kill live. Nice playing, btw.

  • is it similar to the mesa mark iv voicing?

  • @RelaxationII I would say no. It's got its own voicing for sure.

  • is it a buzzy pedal?! Cuz i just saw a lot a videos with some buzz when dudes turned it on !

Nice review ! and what a playing skill !!!!

  • @N3wNaKeD Thanks man! Too nice! No not for me it isn't buzzy at all... Depends on what you're running it through I guess and how the EQ is set on the amp as well as how the tone is set on the pedal. You CAN make it sound like crap if you want... it's just like anything, you have to know how to dial it in and most players who are somewhat beginners won't do any gear any justice.

  • @vaisatchatrucci yeah it's true ! ;-)

  • @N3wNaKeD Makes it hard sometimes to make a decision on a piece of gear... Even reputable demo'ers like Guitar World sometimes fail miserably... They did one on the Eleven Rack and it sounded horrible and I KNOW it can sound better than what they showed... So you never know until you try it yourself for sure!

  • Good demo man! I'm demo'ing one of these thursday. May be replacing my OCD as well but I've also got my eye on the boiling point. Geez at the price but WOW at the tone.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Yeah the Suhr is da bomb... If you like the OCD you'll really like the Riot... Thanks a lot!

  • @vaisatchatrucci I tried one yesterday side by side with my OCD and it was good but the guy that brought it over also had a Klon clone and it absolutely destroyed both the riot and the ocd... absolutely zero comparison. It wasn't nearly as high gain but what it did with the sound of my JTM45 was absolutely intoxicating. Even layering it on top of my eden analog austin was incredible. Look up JHS pedals. they build it.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Not knocking the Klon - its a great overdrive pedal, but you are comparing an overdrive pedal -vs- a distortion pedal which just produce two radically different tones so yeah there's no comparison to be made unless it's just to establish whether you are partial to overdrive or distortion pedals. I happen to be partial to the Suhr which more suits my style. The Klon just isn't for me but it sounds like you found the right pedal for you and thats exciting! Congratulations!

  • @vaisatchatrucci the voice of the riot just had... something to it that made me want to keep turning the gain down further and further. The 3 way switch didn't help much but I do think that in the end, I'm just after a different voice... like turning down a marshall for a mesa or what not.

I thought the riot sounded good for a high gain pedal but wasn't the voice of a high gain pedal I was looking for :(

However, I got a blackstar Distx pedal in today and it's unreal. Try one if you can.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Yeah it sounds like you are maybe more after a great pushed Jimmy Page Zeppelin type tone maybe -vs- a John Petrucci progressive rock tone so you just need different tools to achieve them and the Suhr definitely won't give you that and I find the OCD to be better suited for that type of tone and the Klon even MORE suited for that - again especially matched with your Marshall - I bet it sounds glorious! :) I'll have to try that Blackstar out - thanks for the heads up and info!

  • lovely i want it!

  • @caiaum2 Its a great pedal...

  • Thanks for a great demo :) I was glad to hear the tone knob range is usable, too. The Shiba Drive gets insanely bright with the tone up past noon. Are you still liking the Riot?

  • @fikealox Thanks man - oh yeah the Riot is currently my favorite gain pedal of all time.

  • @vaisatchatrucci Thanks for the reply, man. I just bought one :D

  • @fikealox You'll love it... great smooth warm sounding gain for days... :)

  • i will buy one!

  • @tinhangc Well go get it! :)

  • Lovin' the King's X riffs!!!!

  • @xxxMrAwesomexxx One of my favorite bands ever... most underrated and best LIVE band ever... thanks! :)

  • @vaisatchatrucci Funny thing. I came back to this vid unintentionally researching which distortion to buy. I heard the King's X and made up my mind. Thanks dude! Good review. Mind me asking where you got yours?

  • @xxxMrAwesomexxx I got it from some company in Canada that had them in stock called "diffusion-audio". Thats also the web address of course minus the dub dub dub and dot com that for some reason you can no longer put in these replies...? SUPER GREAT guy named Andy there helped me out big time - super nice.

  • @vaisatchatrucci

I'm full of shit and you're going to hate me. I went with the Blackstar DIST X. It looks like it's going to sound great and I got a great deal on it. $159!!! Hope it doesn't break.

  • @xxxMrAwesomexxx I'm sure its a great pedal too!

  • why would you use that instead of the amps over drive?

  • @flowerdrop1 Depends on what you're looking for. It's not necessarily meant to REPLACE your amps overdrive and can be used WITH your amps overdrive to push it even more, but picture having a Fender amp and you want Marshall'esque type distortion - guess what? Not going to happen unless you plug a pedal like this into your Fender amp - and probably more than likely through the clean channel then you have the BEST of both worlds. Fender cleans, and Marshall high gain... :)

  • I really want this pedal. I actually want the Riot AND the Shiba - the best of both worlds.

    Sounds good. Great demo.

  • @cosmogang Yeah I wish I had the Shiba Drive too... maybe eventually!?

  • It does have about everything. Does it come with talent? LOL

  • @rpeagram Mine didn't... :(

  • Also, you're very right to point out that the 'tone' range is very usable but if someone else is using a Fender type setup like mine, which typically has more treble, they will have to back off the tone more than you do.

I don't have roll back the tone as much as I do with other pedals but certainly it still is necessary.

  • I've had my Riot for a couple of months now.

    Basically, it's awesome.

I mainly play a Fender Vintage Players Strat through a 1x10" Fender Super Champ XD with 1x10" Eminence Rajun Cajun speaker. Never could believe I'd get such a bad ass sound with this type of setup. It sounds amazing with my Ibanez RG also, but I really like my Strat at the moment.

  • I was at the music zoo the other day locally, and I played this pedal... It really is excellent for anything..

  • @WoWandMetalFTW I agree!

  • My friend has one of these...probably the best distortion pedal ive ever heard.

  • @BrianGuitarShred Yeah it's good stuff... I posted an audio file on my soundclick account of the Suhr Riot into my Eleven Rack recorded direct to ProTools... Sounds really great... check it out if you're bored... Just go to soundclick and search for my username.

  • @BrianGuitarShred omg dude am I by any chance your friend?

  • Ever try an MI A
