I wonder why but besides the really old NDP songs like 'Count on me Singapore', this is the only one that touches me, connecting me with my homeland..
I have always loved this national song... well done Dick Lee... every country has flaws and strengths. No matter what, Singapore will always be my home!
Hey justarandomme, for your information, there is something called freedom of speech. In which part of my post was I inciting racial hatred? Hmm?? I was merely pointing out to you a historical fact, something you might have forgotten. If you can't take it, well too bad. Its a fact that unless you are Malay, otherwise it's not correct to talk as if your ancestors were here all along.
Brings back memories esp. the ice kachang in the hawker centre... with the influx of so many PRs & FTs these few years, how many of the so called new "Singaporeans" can relate to this scene when they prob have not tasted 1 in the very 1st place?
Are you sure our forefathers thought of Singpore as home? All 4 of my grandparents considered themselves Chinese rather than Singaporean / Malaysian for most of their lives. I don't exactly see a problem with immigrants so long as they do NS and place their loyalty in Singapore, but why would they ever do that if people don't accept them here?
@vorpal83 OMG i totally agree!! My maternal grandmother came from China, same as my grandfather. And i'm not sure if she considers herself Singaporean but she was always telling me about China... And that was, what, two generations ago? How quickly people forget. Ah the frailty of humanity
Watching this video makes me feel sad. On the one hand i can relate to the old times when I was in school and it's these memories that bind me inexplicably to this land. However half of the people I interact with at work and elsewhere will not share the same memories because their home is not here. I worry about the identity of our nation and it's people. These foreign born people may take up citizenship here but how many will have the same bind I have to this land?
We are not losing our identity. Instead, our identity is evolving. It really does help if PA focus more on the integration of foreigners and new citizens, other than the 4 races. 4 races are one people now. One third of Singapore are foreigners. I believe future NDP should consider that as well.
we may not love our government, but we're united with the brothers and sisters who are suffering with us. for me, that's enough reason to love singapore.
@zhicong Just mind your own business, I don't expect everyone to agree with me, that's just my personal opinion, if you don't like what I said, ignore it. And please, don't bring races issue here. I don't see why you wanna ask whether I'm a malay, orang laut and blah blah blah, when I'm not even talking about that. Get your facts right before asking this kind of sensitive questions.
Talking about floods...... man! Singapore now got damm lot of floods man espacially orchard rd shopping centres lots of flood in basement cos they say that the floods happening in macpherson and orchard as to much leaves twigs etc. and rubbish in the drain so the water cannot flow causing flood but Singapore not so much of a garden city compared to a several years ago but it is still beautiful. My favourite NDP songs are home ch and eng reach out 4 the skies sun yan zi sing ....... Part 1of 2
Not that I am totally supportive of the Government....migrating would not solve problems but would create new problems.. unless you are that rich... and can adapt to new environments quickly then go ahead, no one can stop you.
For those Singaporeans who think that Singapore is losing her identity, think again...do we have an identity to begin with? We all know from history that Singapore came from a small fishing village. It is through the handwork of our forefathers and government who CREATED this identity...deep down in our .hearts we are just afraid that the new influx of foreigners would make us lose this so- called identity...but the truth is with the current birth rate this seem to be the most viable solution..
Omgoodness , this song is better than the english ver. !! Kit Chan is btr at chinese songs. I introduce you guys this song - Forever in love by a1. it rocks as much as this song rocks. Currently in love with - The bitch song , take a bow , forever in love , secret valentine and the internet is for porn. ROCKS ! This song is one of the best ndp songs. others are : reach out 4 the skies, my island home , jia , home , qing kong wan li !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg , im crazy ~.~ Haha ! Oh well. Bye !!!!!!!!!!
i dunno about u guys but I just feel that singapore is losing her identity with the floods of foreigners coming into the country. I think this song epitomizes a nostalgic flow to the past and a ripple towards an unknown future.
i agree tht this song epics a a nostalgic flow and everything but i don't think tht Singapore is losing her identity due to the floods of foreigners but i think its something good as Singapore needs foreign talent and work force.without those guys,Singapore wld not have developed tht fast to bcome a 1st world country.
@thewhiteknigh37 well said. ppl r always reminiscing about the good old past. and the future for me is to migrate. lol. i'm really disappointed with the govt right now.
@thewhiteknigh37 our forefathers were foreigners when they came to Singapore... in time, the new immigrants and their children will be assimilated and become part of the 'Singapore Identity'. Stay positive!
@thewhiteknigh37 I guess you are right to a degree. But i think we all forget most of us traced our roots from outside Singapore. The Chinese and Indians both hailed from their respective countries. Our forefathers came here and helped build Singapore into what it is today. So Singapore is technically an immigrant society. Isn't that right?
omg this song still gives me chills! :) best national day song ever! Ever since NDP started getting pop singers to sing nat day song, this is the only one which every Singaporean remembers and can sing along!
