On this goblet, when creating the stem it looks so skinny that I'm guessing you completely remove the air within that lower part. If so are you working to avoid trapped air in the base of the stem, or do you trim the bottom to remove the bottom of the base? Cheers from Sydney
what is that trimming tool that you always use to trim the base of what you make, i usually use a wooden modeling tool to scrape around the base and trim a foot ring on when it dries
Thanks for the reply. It makes sense that your camera doesn't have that control. With the holidays there are some really kick butt deals on decent cameras, so you might want to look around. Your throwing is excellent and fun to watch, so it would be great if you could upgrade!
@youdanxxx even for a cheap camera as you say you have. I'm pretty sure the function the guy talked about should still be on there. I would imagine its set to autofocus when in video mode. just a sugestion. You make great pottery.
alright I was inspired, and tried this. I guess it takes a bit of practice, but I had trouble on lengthening the stem. my cup began to warble beyond correction. and if you don't hollow out the base, aren't they going to be(feel) heavy? please keep making videos. Thanks
Do you turn any of your bottoms of your work? Would seem to be a thick piece if you did not. Asking... Love your work. I am learning something new from you. Thanks!

I really enjoy watching your demonstrations. Thanks for posting.
Question: It looks like your stem is solid, when triming do you need to drill/trim a deep hole in the base to help drying or prevent cracking?

Just a tip -- if you turn the auto focus off on your video camera it won't do that annoying focusing in and out every time you move your arm.

If I had a decent camera I would do that.
I'm only using a still camera set on video mode so I'm amazed I manage to get any vids at all.
Hopefully once I buy a proper dedicated video camera I'll get some better quality stuff.
Cheers,Dan.

I do trim a bit off the base once it's dried but I don't hollow it out at all.

I threw a bunch of goblets today. I threw the cup and the base separate. Your technique is definitely quicker.
