did it with only ghosts...it took a while since the had spotters everywhere but this way i could send a force out w/o wondering about their health as long as I micro'd. I do have infinite cloak for my ghosts. Had to leave the rest of my force at my base since I had limited resources and they keep sending pesky attacks at me
You know the easiest and fastest way is mass marines and medics with tech reactor in 2 groups (1 to attack, 1 to rescue), right...?! Although it's kinda cheesy, but it's very effective...
On my brutal run (2nd time through, first time I did hard) just now I went mass air. By the end of the game I maxed out at 200 and I had enough to wipe the entire map clean (I saved when I went in to kill the nydus and then after I won I tested my fleet out against the bases and demolished them pretty easily). The lame thing is I had to go early factory even though I never made a single unit from either the one I built or the free one, so I could vikings and armor upgrades earlier.
... I finished the game with 4 siege tanks. The 2 I started with and the 2 I rescued. I did build some bio units at the beginning, but I sacrificed my entire bioball at the first double pod to distract the lower enemies while I went and saved the banshees with my air units, then dropped a mule in to rescue the vikings (i didn't care about the hellions, heck if somehow the zerg didn't kill them, I might have done it myself)
2. You should kill the spore launchers right away. They give you a gas bonus, and a couple of them also have hidden resources near them. Especially the one behind the first rescue group. It's only protected by 2 hydras, and there's like 800 minerals and 400 gas around it.
I build the psi disruptors right away. Also, I hate the initial placement of the tanks so I have to manually move them closer to my bunkers. But psi disruptors, perdition turrets and a couple of extra missile turrets and that one tank at each entrance basically makes the base impenetrable. There's some broodlords later, but I went air so the vikings pretty much crushed them.
AAA..NICE to watch a sc2 video THAT DOESN'T have lagspike city going on. some other guy april 21 2011 has a video of this and it LITERALLy has a lagspike every 2 to 5 seconds . total crap. I couldn't play that way. fps has to be stable and above 45 at all times quality & eye candy comes 2nd. cudos for good video cromar. keep on rollin.
10:50 Get Jacksons' Revenge, attack move towards the bunch of units in the lower part of the map, activate defensive matrix if available, get units, ????, PROFIT!
-mass ghost, sniping everything is cool, it affects every zerg unit because they are all bio =) just make sure you blow overseers first
-lone party: make medevacs/mass transport (if you didnt get the dog) and send a couple of vikings with it, you go around, grab all the guys and back up, make then some more to carry thors and so, i made it to rescure them all, but it was waaaaaaaaay difficult, you can skip vikings and send mules
If you want to rescue all drops and take mostly minor casualties, just get 2 Hercules dropships after you rescue the starport( YES you need a fusion core) but its worth it)and when you get bigger armies and 2 drops at a time send them in with 1 marine in both, unload the marine, get the army into your Hercules, and fly back to base, if you do it right, you'll only probably loose some air(BC's from like drop 8)
Another way to get the drops is to stick a lone marine into each of those corners. They won't get attacked because they're out of the way of the bad guys. Works great regardless of what upgrades you're running.
i got a WAY funnier way to do this.. just put up about 3 hive emulators at each corner of your base.. and then just mind control all zergs (except zerglings and overseers, since their waste)... when you have enough, just go faceroll whole damn map^^ they wont stop attacking you at any time so you can keep on building :D
EDIT: having tested it today (originally did this mission on brutal quite a while back). dropping marines and medics to warfeild appears to no longer work on brutal (you get more resistance the instant you attack the worms now - namely banelings/etc). still appears to work fine on hard, but that isnt really the point
if for whatever reason you have orbital strike, this mission is a joke. Dominion roundup achievement: just drop a barracks unit right to them, even if they all die after you "rescue" them, you get credit (this may also work with MULEs - i'd need to try it). Furthermore, the main objective becomes a joke - you can drop marines and medics straight to warfeild, skipping the entire zerg base and facing virtually no resistance while you kill the worms that are right there...
@therealcromar haha, i had OS and for whatever reason, the first time, i rescued all the drop pods for credit, but didnt think of OS'ing marins to warfeild either, i actually tried to hercules transport, which didnt quite make it. but yeah OS makes this mission trivial

Those vultures can be pretty useful, using up their spider mines really helps to thin a few waves.

ive tried this map in 3 ways:
-mass ghost, sniping everything is cool, it affects every zerg unit because they are all bio =) just make sure you blow overseers first
-lone party: make medevacs/mass transport (if you didnt get the dog) and send a couple of vikings with it, you go around, grab all the guys and back up, make then some more to carry thors and so, i made it to rescure them all, but it was waaaaaaaaay difficult, you can skip vikings and send mules
-your way: effective vs all, nice 1

Just did this, I made a path for my medivacs using a group of marines, nuked the spore colonies, and dropped in. I also massed marines to defend.

@Telsius Wow, I have used OS to get credit for rescues, but I never tried dropping marines on Warfield. It seems so obvious now.
