These test drivers suck, My brothers got number 639 of the 6400 original 08 srt8 Challengers and with it i have gotten 4.8 to 60 and 13.12 at 106.1 in the quarter. Wonder if these guys need a new driver?
0-60mph in 5.5 seconds? That must be a driver error...I'm not bitching, I mean hell I'm not even a Dodge guy...I'm a Ford guy...But even the old 4.6L powered mustangs were capable of faster 0-60 and 1/4 miles times...I know the Challanger SRT-8 can outrun a 4.6L Mustang.
I'm not trying to brag or be a dick, but my family is pretty rich. We have he challenger, charger, bmw 750li, jaguar xf, cadillac escalade, and an audi r8. In my opinion, the challenger is the best for its price.

Beautiful car, but too heavy.. This guy around where I work lost to me in a race when I even had a slipping clutch and he's going around saying he won. Not a chance.. He also says his 2010 srt8 will win against this 600hp GTO.. The guy is full of crap because he's the only guy in this country with a black srt8 and he thinks he's special.

@plane45036 Even more funny is that the Camaro SS is actually a worse platform than the regular Z/28. The hood HURTS performance. That being said, a Challenger SRT8 driven by a good driver should beat your Camaro if it is close to stock. Obviously a 4th gen F-body makes a great platform for a cheap and FAST car if modded. I want to get one as a toy someday soon...The driver in this test couldn't drive well clearly. Anything slower than 13.3 is too slow with a SRT8.
@mikeangeconeb You don't "chip" a modern car. You get a tuner. And yes, this test provided a VERY slow time. Road & Track was getting 0-60 in 4.9 and the 1/4 mile of 12.9 on the Charger SRT8 back in '07.

Nice car! I just wish it weighed like 3600 lbs and it would be a stormer. I wonder what ever prompted the US car makers to build these beasts with so much weight. Surely the Camaro and Challenger engineers knew gas prices were high and are most apt to go even higher. My 2002 Corvette weighing 3200 lbs with 350 HP would easily get 30 MPG if I tried and it eventually turned 12.2 at 118 MPH in the quarter. With overdrive and good torque, these things should do better than they do.

You're what they call a ''high risk'' borrower, and very few, if any would take it. When I was your age (22 now) I had to search for a year and save for a downpayment of 3,000 dollars in order to get a used 2002 Ford F-150. Just work, and place your eyes on reason, don't expect to get into anything new or super fast as most people do.
If they're pulling 13.8's in the quarter, my BMW 330Ci can hang with this "beast." The styling looks great and all, but as far as performance goes, the Challenger absolutely blows. I'll take a Shelby Cobra GT 500 any day.
Hey 4Maticbenz. The reason this car is so much slower is because it has the manual transmission. You can hear it chirping gears in the video. Back in the day, manuals were much quicker, but today, the 5-speed auto-stick is superior to the 6-speed manual. You can't shift faster than the computer. The auto-stick SRT8 will do 4.7 or 4.8 secs to 60, and about 13.2 in the 1/4. The manual will only do about 5.5 secs to 60. Has nothing to do with the driver.
@4MATICbenz OH yeah! I've seen quite a few dead stock or very close to it (cold air intake) srt-8's running as quick as 12.81@108. The quickest DEAD STOCK I've seen was 12.92@107. These guys are terrible indeed!
@camirocz Definitely many people got a stock SRT8 into the high 12's, but you are right that the majority will be around 13.3. The tires from the factory RS-As or F1s sucked for launching well.

@mets558 The V6 Camaro has a 5.5 0-60 time and is a good 300-400 pounds lighter. Camaro looks a WHOLE lot better than this Challenger. It's nicely sculpted with an aggressive look. On the Challenger, it looks like they gave up designing the sides and just slapped a piece of flat metal as a door.

I think the 13.8 is a direct result of its drag coefficient and its mass. I own a 300C RT8 and I've never bothered to do a quarter mile run. I'm happy with how powerful it feels up to 90mph.

I recently drove the SS, 5.0 Mustang, and the SRT8 and even though the Challenger is heavier and not quite as quick off the line I liked it the best. I found it more fun to spend time in and it's the one I couldn't stop looking at. I could care less if someone is .5 seconds faster than me on the street these days. i like cars with that elusive X factor and The Challenger drips with it. The Mustang and Camaro are great cars but the Challenger has more swagger. It's the one I would buy.
I did the same thing as you, I actually test drove all three cars . The SRT8 is a great Car . Your right its not about .0 what ever , this car can handle , move and best of all its a great cruiser , super comfortable car to spend time in . Japanese cars were better designed than american muscle cars nowadays. You don't need powerful engines that will cost you a lot of fuel mileage. Not unless you're in a race track. But in everyday use these fuel efficient Japanese cars perfectly match your riding lifestyle.

The point of American Muscle cars is for sport, not for daily driving, though the Mustang has unfortunately bridged that gap. Mixing muscle (although Mustangs lack real muscle) with the affordable nature of a daily driver has shifted the taste of car consumers towards efficiency and safety features in American Muscle instead of simply muscle. It's senseless.
I dont beleive these numbers, I have a Charger R/T what is faster than this SRT8 and I have taken it to the track to prove it! I pulled 13.77 with a few minor mods and my car weighs more!

Everyone I know that has a sporty car such as a G35, M3, Evo, SRT4, STI all get terrible mileage and I get 25 miles per gallon on the freeway and my car weighs 4100lbs and that was driving at 85mph or faster in California.

Nice car! I just wish it weighed like 3600 lbs and it would be a stormer. I wonder what ever prompted the US car makers to build these beasts with so much weight. Surely the Camaro and Challenger engineers knew gas prices were high and are most apt to go even higher. My 2002 Corvette weighing 3200 lbs with 350 HP would easily get 30 MPG if I tried and it eventually turned 12.2 at 118 MPH in the quarter. With overdrive and good torque, these things should do better than they do.

You're what they call a ''high risk'' borrower, and very few, if any would take it. When I was your age (22 now) I had to search for a year and save for a downpayment of 3,000 dollars in order to get a used 2002 Ford F-150. Just work, and place your eyes on reason, don't expect to get into anything new or super fast as most people do.

If they're pulling 13.8's in the quarter, my BMW 330Ci can hang with this "beast." The styling looks great and all, but as far as performance goes, the Challenger absolutely blows. I'll take a Shelby Cobra GT 500 any day.

Hey 4Maticbenz. The reason this car is so much slower is because it has the manual transmission. You can hear it chirping gears in the video. Back in the day, manuals were much quicker, but today, the 5-speed auto-stick is superior to the 6-speed manual. You can't shift faster than the computer. The auto-stick SRT8 will do 4.7 or 4.8 secs to 60, and about 13.2 in the 1/4. The manual will only do about 5.5 secs to 60. Has nothing to do with the driver.

Edmunds I/L never fails to disappoint me with their lackluster driving skills.
13.8 sec 1/4 for an SRT8 Challenger is a JOKE time. That's almost a full second slower than what every other tester is timing.

@mets558 The V6 Camaro has a 5.5 0-60 time and is a good 300-400 pounds lighter. Camaro looks a WHOLE lot better than this Challenger. It's nicely sculpted with an aggressive look. On the Challenger, it looks like they gave up designing the sides and just slapped a piece of flat metal as a door.

I think the 13.8 is a direct result of its drag coefficient and its mass. I own a 300C RT8 and I've never bothered to do a quarter mile run. I'm happy with how powerful it feels up to 90mph.

I recently drove the SS, 5.0 Mustang, and the SRT8 and even though the Challenger is heavier and not quite as quick off the line I liked it the best. I found it more fun to spend time in and it's the one I couldn't stop looking at. I could care less if someone is .5 seconds faster than me on the street these days. i like cars with that elusive X factor and The Challenger drips with it. The Mustang and Camaro are great cars but the Challenger has more swagger. It's the one I would buy.

Japanese cars were better designed than american muscle cars nowadays. You don't need powerful engines that will cost you a lot of fuel mileage. Not unless you're in a race track. But in everyday use these fuel efficient Japanese cars perfectly match your riding lifestyle.

The point of American Muscle cars is for sport, not for daily driving, though the Mustang has unfortunately bridged that gap. Mixing muscle (although Mustangs lack real muscle) with the affordable nature of a daily driver has shifted the taste of car consumers towards efficiency and safety features in American Muscle instead of simply muscle. It's senseless.

@Psycrologist Thats funny, becuase when the Charger first came out it was the muscle car with good mileage, now the ford has gotten better, Dodge will catch up, and besides what cars like these get better mileage? Everyone I know that has a sporty car such as a G35, M3, Evo, SRT4, STI all get terrible mileage and I get 25 miles per gallon on the freeway and my car weighs 4100lbs and that was driving at 85mph or faster in California.
