The perks of being a wallflower is my favorite book. Ever. I am so obsessed, that this year I am reading the book and each of the letters on the correct date. For example, if the letter was written on september 7th 1991, I am going to read it on september 7th 2011.
I read the book, and while I liked a few things, over all... I just did not find like it. I really disliked Charlie. I found him to be an angsty Mary Sue character. But then again, maybe there was some over all meaning I missed from the book.
OMG! I love the comments to this video! I loved this book so much it is frustrating because I can't explain it to people and I feel like they won't feel the same way I did when I read it - infinite. Beautiful!
I know right? Because isn't that what most authors strive for? They want their book to mean something to the reader, and I'm sure if anyone told him that, he would feel infinite :D
Coming from a teen (16) I believe that every single teenager should have a chance to read this book. There is no other book I loved more than this one. I couldn't fall asleep sometimes from thinking about it. And Im not gonna lie I cried at the end of the book. I would have never thought it would have been over :-(
For some reason I still convince myself that there really is a Charlie and everything he said existed...
i cried about a lot of things. when sam kissed him the first time. that was so beautiful to me. i cried on the first car ride they took together. also beautiful. and of course, the ending was depressing. i think charlie is real. i don't care what the author says.
Same here i cried alot in this book :(. sadly the thing sam said made me cry so hard "Let the first kiss be from a girl that loves you" sadly i havnt received my first kiss yet

Of course I had heard this song before and it became a favorite the first time my ears listened to this awesome song. TheSmiths/Morrissey created a tragically beautiful song.
Many people talk about committing suicide to this song .
Personally this will be my song at my funeral. That I had planned ago back in the Early 90's when I was around 15. It is 2009 and still on.

Nice Red Herring. I don't need to explain the definition of that to you (as your diction suggests that you are a rather educated individual). This novel is merely a platitude. The fact that it may have saved lives makes it worthwhile, but no less insipid. For example, if one prevents suicide by providing that one "has too much to live for" et. cetera cliche, one has said something of bona fide quality, but not of profound or idiosyncratic quality. I concede that the novel is worthwhile, in that

Believe my, I likes Perks, a lot. But it wasn't what I'd call "life changing", it isn't even in my top five. There have been further moving books.

Okay, I have a serious question for everyone. I have been trying to find a place to download this song (not MP3, just regular) but I can't find it. CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?!?
Illustrating The Smiths at their darkest emotional ebb, Asleep is as beautiful as it is ghastly; a song of assiduous despair, it is the harsh and authentic clamour of the human soul at its most nihilistic.... Sing me to sleep And then leave me alone Don't try to wake me in the morning 'Cause I will be gone Don't feel bad for me I want you to know Deep in the cell of my heart I will feel so glad to go To die, to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream
Perhaps the greatest Smiths song ever? A great song that can fill you full of empathy, depression ultimate sadness and happiness at the same time.

With regard to the more upbeat stuff, I think you cant beat Jeane - have you heard it?
No, I hadn't, but I looked it up and it's great. I'm still partial to This Charming Man and Ask, though :). But I do appreciate the occasional darker song...I really do love this song, just not my favorite...although it is on some days :) Depends on my mood, I suppose. Today I like it a lot and could listen to it a good 5 times in a row.

That book was kind of overrated...it was alright I guess, but it didn't say anything that hadn't been said a thousand times before in other "nonconformist" lit. It pretty much just ripped off from Catcher in the Rye at some spots.
Good song though, love The Smiths, knew them BEFORE reading the book.
I was 19 years old, a gun in my mouth, at the end of the little music I shoot...17 years after, I still have the bullet in my neck and my only regret is to have miss this shoot...
This is filmed from a great perspective, keeping in theme with the novel. I am a grad student @ Grand Valley State University. We just read this book for one of my classes. The class itself is made up of future teachers and we created a wiki with many uplinks including this one. The video is really "Charlie-esque". I think the perspective is very relatable to many young adults and helps to give a greater perspective into the book "Perks of Being a Wallfower" by Stephen Chbosky.
that was pretty anticlimactic to tell you the truth. i mean, i was expecting it to be this amazing song like zombie or sound of silence or scarborough fair, but it wasn't all that great. i mean it was an alright song, but that just kind of took away from what i was expecting. i loved perks of being a wallflower and it just kind of fell. that was GREAT cinematography though. really fantastic job making the video.
this song totally makes sense because death is a prevelent theme in the book. Charlie's favorite aunt, and the one whom he feels is the only one who relates to him, his best friend, dies.
What I got, is that when he was with Sam that night, it brought up all of these memories from him Aunt. I guess she had sexually abused him but he blocked it out until it all came to him that night and messed him up pretty bad.
I missed the thing about pedophilia at the end. The first time I read it I didn't see it. I didn't find out about it until like, 3 years later. He says it very quickly.
omg. i love you. ^_^ the smiths. the perks of being a wallflower. AND a totoro toy! AHHH!!! youre amazing. the end. im thinking of making a mixed tape/cd of all the songs listed in the book. sadly i have only finished up to part two in the book so far but i MUST say that it is by far my favorite. i can relate to charlie's mental state/frame so well. im going to go finish reading it now actually. great vid. Xoxo Brandy
i just read the most amazing book in my life. other than sex, drugs, and cocoa puffs.
i just finished reading a book called The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. in the book charlie is riding in sams truck and this song came on the radio. all he could say when it was over was that he was infinite. i wanted to hear it for myself. its awesome. thank you :]
actually this song wasnt the one on the radio he said he didnt tell the song on the radio because you have to hear it for yourself to feel the same "infinite" feeling.
asleep was one of the songs on the mixtape that his sisters boyfriend gave her.
Great job. I haven't read the book yet, i'm sort of 'saving it' if that makes sense. This song always gives me chills though, but your imagery fit so well.

With regard to the more upbeat stuff, I think you cant beat Jeane - have you heard it?
Such a shami it was never on an album :(
starmandiddy 3 years ago

I love that book! Its awesome :D Amazing video too!

I was 19 years old, a gun in my mouth, at the end of the little music I shoot...17 years after, I still have the bullet in my neck and my only regret is to have miss this shoot...

THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD
but it would have been even better if when he was watching tv, you put a bowl of jello somewhere.

This is filmed from a great perspective, keeping in theme with the novel. I am a grad student @ Grand Valley State University. We just read this book for one of my classes. The class itself is made up of future teachers and we created a wiki with many uplinks including this one. The video is really "Charlie-esque". I think the perspective is very relatable to many young adults and helps to give a greater perspective into the book "Perks of Being a Wallfower" by Stephen Chbosky.

thx for making the vid. it was awesome

that was pretty anticlimactic to tell you the truth. i mean, i was expecting it to be this amazing song like zombie or sound of silence or scarborough fair, but it wasn't all that great. i mean it was an alright song, but that just kind of took away from what i was expecting. i loved perks of being a wallflower and it just kind of fell. that was GREAT cinematography though. really fantastic job making the video.
JJazmine 4 years ago
this song totally makes sense because death is a prevelent theme in the book. Charlie's favorite aunt, and the one whom he feels is the only one who relates to him, his best friend, dies.

Hey everybody!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower was a good book. The Catcher in the rye was better, though.

SLCThunk 4 years ago
Yes and in a vague way. I read the last few pages and the epilogue a couple times and then I got it
emitremmus 4 years ago
Same here.
I had to read it a few times,
It was a great book.
I loved the part where they got Charlie stoned.
I LOL'd when he said "A milkshake."

i just read the most amazing book in my life. other than sex, drugs, and cocoa puffs.
i just finished reading a book called The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. in the book charlie is riding in sams truck and this song came on the radio. all he could say when it was over was that he was infinite. i wanted to hear it for myself. its awesome. thank you :]
jreese2010 4 years ago
actually this song wasnt the one on the radio he said he didnt tell the song on the radio because you have to hear it for yourself to feel the same "infinite" feeling.
asleep was one of the songs on the mixtape that his sisters boyfriend gave her.

I just found this book in the library today, and I am on page 22.
I am wondering about this sexual harassment and pedophile thing...hmm...what is it that I am reading about?
Well I must keep reading.
I am excited because I am a big fan of The Smiths,
and I read To Kill A Mockingbird last year.
I noticed it in that book pile in the video.
The video was very nice.
laurenxyo 4 years ago
As you get farther into the book you'll start to understand the pedophilia and sexual harassment in it.
The end of the book just broke my heart, it's a great story that I'm sure I'll read again.
