@lucas198 r u serious?..what video are you watching. benefit of doubt to batter. yes im aussie, but i dont condone any cheating or favouritism in any way. aussie or otherwise.. i dont think he's cheating either.
All these videos on youtube of bump catches being made out to look like active cheating is simply ridiculous. If you're fielding and you catch the ball close to the ground - especially slip or gully fielding - it is almost impossible to know if the ball has carried 100% of the way.
Strauss never cheats, his conduct may be deemed by some to be unsportsman-like at times (e.g. Cardiff where he continued to send out new gloves/physios etc. to waste time) That is still within the laws of the game.
@PuppyBearGaming yes but the thing is, that was the one of 3 bad descissions made by rudi koezrton who in the first innings, gave ponting out caught behind when he missed the ball by a foot.
a similar situation occurred with hauritz and that time koezrton went to the 3rd umpire and gave it not out unanimously. he also gave hussey out when he missed a ball which spun to second slip, out caught behind when replays showed he didnt hit it.
@Pankcakes123 to be fair that is very different to the Hughes decision. It looks and probably felt like a genuine catch to Strauss and at full speed you can see him scoop under the ball so he may have actually got his fingers under it in time, very difficult to tell so you cant blame Strauss for claiming it. The Hughes catch is a disgusting piece of gamesmanship where he knew he hadn't caught the ball but was persuaded by his team to join in celebrations late and claim it.There's a BIG difference
what bullshit this is. it dropped short but at that speed strauss and anyone cant tell. end of the day we won and the aussies were shite at the time no one can deny that. they had experianced team out and still fuck up
I wish people would drop this whole "cheating" label for such catches. Was it a catch? IMO no. Hughes should not have been given out. But Strauss & England were within their rights to appeal for the catch. The umpires failed & this is why a Full DRS system should be fully supported to get rid of the bad decisions.
Being an Aussie fan and watching this happen, I spewed and was angry.
A full DRS with team reviews will reduce these mistakes. That's a good thing for cricket and fans.
Be reasonable: that doesn't count as cheating at all. While it's doubtful that the catch was clean, you have no way of knowing whether or not Andrew Strauss thought it was clean. The umpires are there to adjudicate on decisions. The most you can claim is that it was poor umpiring through the lack of referral.
So it's OK when Ponting, Hughes, Symonds etc etc etc do it but when Strauss claims a catch close to the ground it's cheating, at the end of the day, Rudi could have gone up to the third umpire but didn't, bad umpiring not cheating
Benefit of the doubt should go to the batter. Not out.

No doubt about it. Fingers under the ball. No bounce off the ground.

I have been a fan of England and Australia both and love to watch Ashes but I have to admit that was NOT OUT!
Not blaming Strauss though. I am a slip fielder and sometimes it is hard to figure out if the catch watch actually a catch and actually carried.

well usually strauss is a true gentlemen. i dont think you can blame strauss cause its very simaltanous so to him he probably thinks hes caught it.
really the two umpires shouldve gone to the third umpire for a referral but no they didnt. not so much cheating but horribleumpiring

@dj6ful Can't blame Strauss, it was only Phil Hughes, probably would have been out next ball anyways :D

@PuppyBearGaming and 2 dimissals in the second innings off flintoff were no-balls
so poor umpiring really costed australia a chance to save or even win the test match

Clearly didn't get his fingers underneath the ball but who can blame Andrew Strauss for appealing. Terrible umpiring for not referring the decision.

I love it how when Hughes claims a catch he's a cheater but when Strauss claims one it's "just the way it is".
