But since it was short range air defense Shorad Vulcan, We we called the " air defense infantry. I was active duty in 1983 Germany when i saw a video of " Apocalypes Now " another great Vietnam War movie.
I had the honor of serving with Vietnam vets in the Jungles of Panama.. The Jungle is a straight fuckin bitch to live in without someone trying to kill you all time.. This was a well made film by a man who's been there.. No politics..

BTW I was near the Malacanang Palace the night when it was stormed by the people and Marcos fled. I had the chance to meet one of the US airmen who was in one the 3 choppers which flew in from the Clark Air Base to extract Marcos from there and flew the whole entourage back to Clark. It was just total pandemonium.

@roymckee99 How did you get on the subject of ww2? The Russians did the same thing in ww2 as they did in the napoleonic wars. They lured the enemy to a point where they could not turn back and when the enemy had thought they had won the Russians closed the door and destroyed them.The Russins were loosing until the Germans invaded Moscow ,in the winter. The song in the start is called "Adagio For Strings" made by Samuel Barber! Its SOO beautiful and I love it! I can play it on piano as well :D

Question,I seen this movie at least 50-75 times. There is one scene that I never understood. You see a chopper flying over base. Alias's pants are half down in the field and Lerner is with him then walks away. Never understood wtf Alias was doing washing his balls, pissing or paying Lerner for service.

Vietnam is a communist country and the North Vietmanese communists spread and took over following the war, so how did the Americans prevent the spread of Communism?
I also believe that the American involvement in Iraq has little to do with helping the Iraqi goverment and more to do with finacial gain. There are many countries run by brutal dictatros that America aren't helping!

I don't understand your reference to "chinks" this is a racist slang term used against the Chinese! The Chinese had a soldiers permenatly stationed in Vietnam but the vast majority of soldiers were vietnamese!
Vietnam is bordered by Loas and Cambodia who where both heavily bombed by the Ameriacans in the war!
The American bombing campaign was less effective than thought and the tunnel systems used by the vietnamese made a huge difference! I'm not anti American but these are facts of the war!

The idea that all of these Communist countries were satellies of Russia or China was wrong from the beginning.
China and Russia hated each other. Veitnam and Cambodia fought in 75'- both countries were communist at this point. A war between Vietnam and China followed.
You can see the same flawed thinking with Republicans today - they want to invade any and every Muslim country in the Middle East as if they're all connected to 9/11.

@roymckee99 How did you get on the subject of ww2? The Russians did the same thing in ww2 as they did in the napoleonic wars. They lured the enemy to a point where they could not turn back and when the enemy had thought they had won the Russians closed the door and destroyed them.The Russins were loosing until the Germans invaded Moscow ,in the winter. Poor battle plan.

First off it is a movie, not all American platoons in Vietnam were like this.
The reason is American brass decided to let the Russians take Berlin just as they let the remainder of the French take Paris back. Sort of a courtesy, Patton wanted to take both, and could have.
