I certainly don't blame any people at the Ohio bars for not recognizing Bobby D...
That further shows how good an actor he can be - he just blends into the environment that he's trying to study. Today's stars are often about themselves, their careers, their satisfaction.... Robert was about integrity - being real....
Hope he has a few more legendary performances up his sleeve. I recommend Everybody's Fine - though it wasn't a huge hit, it was, from my experience, credible in re family life
Classic movie, great actors and one of the best ensemble casts ever. Christopher Walken is obviously still very charismatic and amazingly talented, but I forgot how gorgeous he was back then ;-).

I grew up in the town in the film, Mingo Jct. Ohio. My mother used to tend bar in Welsh's Bar.
My father(Wheeling Pitt Steel) tells stories about "Bobby". He meet him at a bar about 6 months before the movie was filmed. Bobby was looking for a job in the mill but not having much luck. He would always ask questions about the mill and the area and how people lived. The production crew showed up and my dad was shocked that "Bobby" was Rober DeNiro and he was a actor doing research.
@MrLarryLessor These simple salt of the Earth people in Eastern Ohio, they had no clue who he was. Besides he had the beard that he wore in the movie at the time.
@getclutch72 Damn dude, I would've loved to share a drink or beat someone up with this dude. Maybe his personal life while filming this is the reason I love this movie so much. DeNiro and Streep's humanity is written all over this movie. The movie is so good cause the cause was so good... That's what makes a good movie. That's why people hate on a movie in the 40's and then love them in the '90s. Idk but #ItMakesSense
@champi133 Nothing special with the dvd really. Bought it like 5 years ago at sale hehe. All my videos ive just played on windows media player and then used fraps to record. Its only 30 fps, so kinda have lag on the videos :(
there is a movie mistake at 1:19, Deniro is holding the stick at his right hand and after the camera changes we see he holds it at his left hand :D
Busted!
but still great scene.

Thanks for this classic De Niro story. I would have loved to have met De Niro like your dad did.
I love movies - so I wonder if by 1978 I would have recognized De Niro.... He said that a few people did recognize him driving a cab before 1976.
