  • It really surprised me that no one mention that he did the voice of Johnny Cage for Mortal Kombat 2011!

  • 6 people didn't get lucky.

  • The chorus are amazing! It sounds soo perfect!

  • alright he sounds like don jeff is a great vocalist

  • Don had a stronger voice and much more distinct.

  • Good lord I didn't know he could sing like that???

  • I remember seeing an interview with Don in the 80's where he said that he thought that Jeff is a better singer than he is.

  • @RatSausages

jeff was an awsome singer but don dokken was higher pitch ,broad range and wrote all those favorites......he might not have held on to those traits due to smoking and leading that lifestyle for 30 years!!!

  • Don is playing bass...

  • @Dan72770

    bass u mean guiatr

  • DIVINE

  • Who was on bass in this video?

  • Comment removed

  • @gpaai

It think its Don. Look at 1:42.

  • @gpaai Don.

  • HE just got LUCKY :-]

  • yes jeff has the better voice no doubt, yes Pilson should have been the name name lol

  • That is friggin tight. Love me some Dokken

  • Can't wait for Jeff, George, and Mick in the Tooth & Nail project!

  • Wow. Amazing singer Jeff Pilson is. Sad he's now playing boring bass lines in the current Foreigner Band. He's an amazing singer and should have his own band....gotta pay the bills though. There are side man like this all over that are overshadowed....so goes the band biz.

  • and because of his awesomeness I think thats why Don booted him because he is way more talented than Don, thats why Don and Lynch didnt get along!

  • In the wake of the recently failed Dokken reunion, George, Jeff and Mick are forming a band called Tooth and Nail. The album is called Dump the Chump and they are going to do some old Dokken classic and some new songs. I personally can't wait to hear it.

  • They should have had Pilson sing lead on all the songs and named the band "Pilson".

  • @AGarbRacing ... XD... NO ):! xD

  • @AGarbRacing amen!

  • This is truly the real mr. scary. Don shouldn't have let him sing live like this, now the fans see he's replaceable ! good job jeff

  • Fuck me, it's the Wizard by Uriah Heep in all but name! lol

  • @blueleadguitar REmember the one with Mick Box playinng with a broken finger?

  • WOW, impressive, jeff shoulda sang more, i like this version a lot, 1 of the few unplugged songs i actually like, but would rather hear em plugged back in , this song needs the raw shreddin punch ;()

  • jeff has an awesome voice...he did a solo album with Lynch that kicked ass...

  • By the way, during the "Blackout" recording Don had middle parts, high parts were reserved for Jeff. He's really a very good singer, the band "Pilson" with him doing the vocals and Don and George shredding would be really fun back in the 80s.

  • agree this guy can sing. What I dont understand is why didn't he sing some songs in their hey day? Especially since fat ass Don was losing it

  • I knew jeff could sing, but this is beyond what I thought. Blow away any of these new singers of todays new crap music.

  • Jeff looks like John Connelly from Nuclear Assault

  • @NYBloodyArrow7400 Nice observation

  • @NYBloodyArrow7400 Lol. Completely agree :)

  • very cool Jeff... great music...thanks

  • Hats off to Don for making room for the band on the whole gig and G for not overshredding. First time a BAND. And maybe the last... you never know.

  • I think he sounds better than Don..more power, way less nasaly...none that, 'nnyawwhhh' stuff

  • @cosborn73 don is better in every direction. He has an outstanding tremolo, probably the best and a unmistakeble voice...and mutch power.::| just listen and compare

  • @pulanceyt Correction: Don's wig has much power.

  • im suprised Don let Jeff sing.

  • @LuckyInJuly If you can still by the dvd/cd Don is the one who got him to sing. He was trying to get George to sing this one.. But..... Mick sings one too.

  • @fordwheeler All of these guys are amazing musicians. It is too bad that the thing that basically made it big for these guys (MTV) basically now haunts them. Dokken is lumped in as a "hair band" which is terrible because people tend to look past the music which is timeless and still stands up today. Instead they focus too much on the dated clothing and such. These songs being "semi-acoustic" shows how brilliant they truly are.

  • @LuckyInJuly Why? I've just heard Don is not a good guy with others... I'm still his fa... but is it true? ):

  • Watch with your ears

    hear the frets?

    Yoda says feel the force:-)

  • @JivaPurusa i like that comment.. \m/

  • Holy crap. I recognize I entered here just expecting Jeff Pilson to suck, but he can really belt it out. Great version, why isn´t Don Dokken singing?

  • Check out the Album "Wicked Underground" by Lynch/Pilson and then Jeff's band War and Peace... Fuckinunbelievable !!!!

    Rock on Jeff!

    k

  • jeff is a great singer man !!!!

  • WTF, guess the camera dweeb had a seizure @ george's solo....if you can't see him shred, whats the point in watching???

  • One big heart one big Voice....Very nice.x

  • I think Jeff has a way better voice for rock music than Don. I have a War and Peace cd with Jeff on lead vocals, and this dude is for real. Killer voice.

  • What a great version of this great song. I didn't know Jeff could belt it out like that. Two thumbs WAY up!

  • greatest breakup song lol

  • @vinylvampcat i mean the feeling i get is like ya just spit something bad outta yer mouth and it's time to taste freedom

  • Jeff can tear it up!..........

  • the maracas sound pretty good with this song, imagine that, jeff doesn't have don's range but sounds good

  • such a better singer then don,not surprised he left! Was a great band but never got into them when they were together because don's voice couldn't hold up live!

  • G plays it otherwise than then original.cool.

  • Wow Jeff can really sing. Since Don was/is such an ass Jeff should have sang more.

  • @mrsdavidoneill Yep. I've met with the band on several occasions and Don was always an ass. Jeff was the nicest guy in the world.

  • where can I find the complete set???

  • @meethead This came off the Dokken DVD - "One Live Night" ---- it's well worth the buy!

  • Comment removed

  • JEFF IS ROCKING .................

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman Don on bass left room foor The Singer. Appreciate!

  • I don't understand the term "Hair Metal" Long hair and big hair have been around since the 60's just look at Robert Plant..Androgyny and rock have been around since the 50's just look at Little Richard. The guys in the 80's were just carrying on the tradition.Long hair and rock n roll are like peanut butter and jelly.

  • he's better then Don is lol

  • Pilson has a voice that rivals and sometimes overshadows don's.

  • jeff when ya comin by longview ?

  • Marty Balin from Starship had Jeff singing lead vocal in a side project of his called Rock Justice...kind of a neo-meatloaf broadway musical thing...pre Dokken. Juan Crucier from Ratt was Dokken's orig bass player.

  • Kick ass...

  • Jeff's a great singer! Don can NOT sing that song anymore. Just a fact

  • wow!!!!

  • Jeff is sauteed in awesome sauce! That was badass!

  • @nozzleman3 um, I wanna be "sauteed in awesome sauce!"

  • Jeff & Deen C from Journey should jam. Great versatile musicians who can sing.

  • Holy smoke is this good. Jeff can really belt this sucker out, better than the original.

  • Jeff Pilson is the coolest guy in rock and roll.

  • excellent

  • Pilson ROCKS!!!!!!

  • jeff is so good i really feel he's quite a bit better than john dokken-jeff pilson's project band also did some great stuff in the late 90's-He also did vocals pro bono for a friend of mine who did a song to raise money for autism awareness-seems like an awesome guy!

  • This is fucking bad ass, i had know idea Jeff sounded this good!!!!

  • \m/ JEFF PILSON ROCKS \m/

  • I'm really impressed. I knew Jeff could sing, but I didn't think he was that damn good! Wow!!!! He is looking really good here too!!!

  • Mr. Lynch definitely in the house on this song.

  • Just Awesome!!!!I never knew Jeff Pilson could sing so awesome! I love it!

  • Holy shit- Pilson can sing better than Don Dokken!

  • pilson is a great singer!!!!!!! better than Don ---more soul and range!!!! Nice guy too... my sister met him with Foreigner on plane and he was the nicest guy...JEFF PILSON IS THE SHIT...please do another with Lynch

  • George, a Pilson-Lynch tour would be sick! ya reckon?

  • George, a Pilson-Lynch tour would be sick!

  • Thanks Jeff for makin me cry. Again.

  • My hardcore Dokken friend got this DVD years back and the only thing I liked then was this one. The song is just amazing but Jeff singing makes it........great. I have the first albums on both european and US versions and now I'm bound to Listen to PILSON not dokken.

  • I was reading an old guitar mag interview with Lynch yesterday. Man, is the guy ever neurotic and analytical.

  • I like Don and all but, I think Pilson is a much better singer.

  • and i found that a bit strange that any famous person would bother talking to some weird 12 year old... so i think Jeff's pretty cool..

  • at a Foreigner concert, early this year, i was swimming around in the pool, and this guy comes in sort of smiles, then goes in the workout room that you can see from the pool... i kept swimming, and about a half hour later he comes out, all sweaty and stuff and says hi and asks how the water is. i say its good, then he's like ok, and leaves. later that night, while i was watching the concert, i realized that that was Jeff. it was my first concert, and i had already met one of them. it was cool.

  • He's the Michael Anthony of Dokken. His harmonies were essential to their sound....

  • jeffs ROCKIN !

  • Is Don Dokken playing Bass?

  • @edjr672 yes

  • @edjr672 See I thought the same. It totally looks like Don is on bass

  • @slowcarcrash2 because it is...

  • @edjr672 Yes and he doesn't look too thrilled about it either...lol

  • Pilson ROCKS!!!! What a amazing voice!!!

  • Jeff Pilson is a cool dude and very talented too. I went to a Dokken show right after they reformed in 95 (I think). Jeff was the only one to come outside, talk with the fans, and sign a few autographs. Everyone else stayed on the bus and didn't want to come outside.

  • haha is it me or does jeff sound 100 times better than don ever would live.

  • @woodsjos, Jeff is to Don what Juan Croucier was to Stephen Pearcy (bassist surpassing the frontman).

  • @JosephKuby, ya juan was the origonal bassist for dokken. he was on the album breaking the chains but left for ratt afterwards. but ya you are right juan also did some singing, i love ratt but stephen isnt a very talented singer, athough ratt wouldnt sound loke ratt without him

  • hes like john sykes or richie sambora as far as showing up lead singers. and who cares if lynch makes up a new solo, everything he does is tits.

  • Jeff has always been an awesome singer. Keep in mind this video is 15 years old. Years ago I saw Dokken several times and each time Jeff sang most of the songs.

I just saw them again two weeks ago and the only original member was Don. It was not good. He sang several octaves lower than the originals but hey, at least he admitted that he sucked anymore. Gotta remember Don is 57 years old now and he had a drink and cigarette in his hand the whole show.

  • JEFF sounds better than don dokken.

  • saw him play bass on the dio (ronnie james dio) tour. he is an amazing singer. and amazinglingly enough, rock star drinks o=douls. hands up to him...

  • @osbornstephen and a really nice, considerate person...

  • jeff's backing vocals..somehow it seems that he was hiding something...superb vocals..throughout the years.

  • What a talent! No wonder Foreigner wanted him!

  • The best song ever sung by a better singer. What did Don bring into the band except the nasal voice. Mick Jeff and G coulda done better without the "Frontman"

  • Don Dokken should be out of a job after this video lol

  • This is so goood ,, WOW! George's reaction says it all

  • Sounds great i have always been a huge fan of anything Lynch has ever done Great stuff Jeff wow very impressive anyone know if they will be playing in the nor cal area

  • love these dudes ! I wore out tooth and nail on cassette twice. I cant seem to find a vid of "when heaven comes down"

  • i will tell you a short story. i played with jeff when he was in his teens. he was a more competent musician than the rest of us, but good humor. so, one of the times when the drummer and i were trying to get some vocal part, jeff popped out a very nice bit. we just stared at him and said "why don't you sing", and he said, "i'm saving my voice". he told me that when he got out of high school he was going to california and join some established band. more to the story, but he did what he said

  • he & lynch wrote most of dokken best songs anyways

  • Sing it Jeff......saw ya in concert w/Dokken and Foreigner! Miss the 80s!

  • what year was this?

  • I just fucking HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE the super-slow-motion film effects while Lynch plays his solo. Apparently, that artsy-fartsy approach is supposed to be...what? Original? Staggering? Impressive??? Often-times, people in film editing...just don't "get it!!!!" Arrrghhhh!!!!!! Talk about fully screwing up a glorious moment in guitar history by one of Rock's Finest!!!!

  • @ironflame12 I couldn't agree more... Don't they get it...it doesn't need arty-fartsying...It's Lynch!!..

  • Jeff sounds great..... George OMG fingers bleed magic

  • I posted this video when I started my FB acount. It was so fitting then and it definitely still is now.

  • Oh he sings much better than...

  • pilson and lynch made dokken great. i believe dokken went downhill since their parting. sad loss music.

  • Dam don dokken should of let jeff pillson sing some of there songe he sounds pretty dam good and has some pipes on him.

  • He is a pretty good singer

  • @rfd73 - he really is quite good. love this version!

  • @rfd73 frankly I think he's better than Don.

  • @SpectorRay1 yes, i dont know how don got the fanfair he did

  • @rfd73 i don't think he is a pretty good singer. I think he is an awesome singer with a great voice

  • Yeah, but still we must not forget about how many songs Don wrote for use. I mean, lets not mentally dance gay twacky (like the dancers in the Elton JOhn video of I still stand, where they balletically jumped and posed a shot in the air for the gusto of the happy moment (which I do like that song fo Elton) But seriously you guys. Mimicking and sounding like others is not KING

  • @Transnewton 2011 Award for the most confusing post on the internet...

  • jeff aways sang well

  • Better than Don himself. He is with Foreigner now. I saw them a couple years ago - great musicians. Better than ever - very tight. I agree about Dokken having their shit together - love em

  • @jmod98 ANd it is not better than Don. That is a understatement.

  • That was spectacular. I've always loved this band and they are one of the most influential, talented and creative bands to come out of the "Hair" Metal Craze of the 80's and early 90's. I don't even refer to them as "Hair," since Don, Jeff, Mick & George are all true musicians, and not posers or whatever, like that dorky band Warrant. Dokken has always had their shit together and I'm happy to see they are happy with who they have always been.

  • I agree, Dokken never was a Hair band at all In terms of Musical Style, they were More a Melodic Hard Rock band with atmospherics thrown in, however for the Under Lock and Key album they had to put on the glam image to blend in with the rest, as for Warrant, well I actually did enjoy the Cherry Pie Record so i cant really say they were exactly dorky, that title would have to go to poison (granted Poison does have a decent guitarist but thats about it, most of their songs are forgettable)

  • @greeenroooom ...and d ont look now but guess who that is on bass..........................DON DOKKEN. ALL true musicians.not poseur douchebags.

  • @greeenroooom Warrant are awesome though...?

  • great song, jeff sounds good

  • Why in the hell would you do slow mo on Georges solo?????

  • somebody file a Freedom of Information Act to get the original Lynch solo cuts !

  • @ HopNPop, who didnt know Jeff had the Pipes????? For more Jeff Vocals, check out the War and Peace stuff, he did all lead vocals and had Russ Parrish (Fight, Atomic Punks, Steel Panther) on guitar!!!!! Search WAR & PEACE - Heaven Is Waiting, Youtube will not let me put the link in this message

  • Wow! Jeff banged that shit hard!!!!

  • Wow! Jeff sounds great! I hope Steel Dragon gets back together so he can tour with them.

    Steel Dragon Reunion Tour 2011!!!

  • this was great until they showed lynches solo in slow motion... It totally ruined the timing and feel of lynch's presence!!!!

  • @nehocyrrah Totally agree. I hate dumb ass pointless camera effects...

  • Yes, should get rid of Don as "Pilson writes the shit anyway" change name to DoKKened and fire the damn camera guy who films George's lead parts in slow motion and out of sync ;)

  • Pilson sounded/played like this when he was 15 yrs. old.... Truly one of the most overlooked talents ever, much like G. Lynch. These guys never truly got their due. Pisses me off now and way back when... Fucking radio D.J.s and the music biz of the eighties and nineties suppressed talent for money... Knuckle Draggin' Neanderthals that they are...

    Peace

  • @SilverByte69 i'm with you dude, they were so fuckin good...i wore out Tooth and Nail...great band with great players

  • they suck

  • @nothadnotbad Why ? Don rejected your mam?

  • @nothadnotbad you suck

  • @nothadnotbad You swallow.

  • @nothadnotbad u are a fuckin tool, go gobble some hog you faggot

  • wow he does sing sing very good ya drop that ego from don and keep jeff lol

  • Listen to 'Wicked Underground' , it's a disc put out by Lynch and Pilson a few years ago. You can really tell who the 'heart' of Dokken was when you hear it.

  • Now he is with foreighner

  • DAMN! I didn't know Mr. Pilson had that in him...GOOD JOB!!!

  • I remember Jeff playing bass and singing for the Randy Hansen band back in like *81 , Jeff's always had a good strong voice.

  • He sings a song called "Shes So Evil"

from Lynch Mob that is killer!

  • "bangs" on dudes just do NOT work DON! Glad at least that part of your history has passed.

Great tune and well done Jeff!!

  • Pilson stole the show on this one.

  • George could bang that fucking strat over the chair he's setting on and make it sound killer !!!!

  • Jeff pilson is awsome and did you know that he was the bass player for steel dragons in the movie Rockstar check it out.

  • great voice and rendition but david lynch got lazy, why mess with an awesome solo and although this one was excellent it wasn't the solo that made the song famous, a bit disappointing

  • dude, your totally right...in fact when i used to cover a song (usually slayer, testament or sepultura) i would do the solos exactly the same cos its gay when a solo is improvised like that.

George wanted to showcase some of his newer crap but he should play what they came to hear...

  • George Lynch.
