Always look at the bright side of life. WW2 is over, Germany has learned from its past and is among of the most civilized, modern, and peace loving nations in the world. The German soul is its desire for coziness and sociability, or simply way to enjoy life with good food, good beer, good friends, and good conversation, good laughs, and intellect. Best of all, they love diversity and the influx of its neighboring countries in Europe and beyond. Its worth a visit and to find out for yourself
Germany? This country has a bad smell of children and women ashes which they burned. These people made medical experiments in living people. They actually entered people (not enemy soldiers but unarmed old men, women and children) to Gas chambers. Do you get it? Gas Chambers! ! !
I completely understand what you are trying to express since there is no word for the horror that the Nazi's caused in Germany, Europe and around the world. Tragic, sad, disgusting don't even get remotely close to the evil that took place 70 years ago, which isn't much, but you should not make todays Germans responsible for the evil that a fanatic regime and dictatorship did since none of the German knew about all this due to censorship
Dave I am trying to get used to the new YouTube and had to remove my duplicate comments. My moms family knows best about the drama that took place between 1935-1945. My mother was raped by Russians and she and her three sisters and my grandparents had to escape from the Russian invasion just with their cloth on their back. Two of her brothers were put in concentration camps, my uncle August for refusing to fight for Germany, and my uncle Max for saving a Jewish girl from the concentration camp
My uncle William was murdered by Polish on the street after the war. My uncle Georg vanished at the front in Kursk, and my uncle Alois came back from Russian captivity in 1954 even though he was pronounced dead. Short, four of five uncles were killed, the family lost their home, their land and the women were raped all I want to say is that many innocent people went through hell, not only innocent women, children and elders EVERYBODY, including Germans that had no idea what went on
@DirkHVM I am deeply shamed at how my countrymen treated our European cousins in 1945. Face it Britain, America and France really should have treated the German prisoners of war and civilian population better. (After all many of us are descended from the Germanic Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Frisians, franks, Normans, etc). I dread to think how many Germans were murdered from 1945 to 1950 (after the peace treaty had been signed). I expected the Russian sub humans to behave as they did. But not us.
@paulmac38: Well, we all feel ashamed about what our forefathers did during and post WW2. Today’s Germans are not proud of their history and wish they could turn time back – but they and other nations learned from history and are now resisting political and religious fanatics while reaching out to become friends with other nations. We need to make sure it will never happen again and forgive those that did wrong, because hate will fuel more hate and doesn’t contribute to world wide peace.
DirkHVM but what the allies did was far worse than what the Germans did. Yes I know about the concentration camps, etc. But from 1944 the allies deliberately displaced 17 million Germans from Eastern Europe (countries that they had lived in for hundreds of years). Killing at least 3 million of them in the process (though probably a lot more). Stole 25% of the most fertile German Land (Silesia, Pomerania, East Brandenburg and East Prussia).
@paulmac38:Sent millions of German POW's and other ethnic Germans from Romania, Yugoslavia and Hungary to Siberian/Kazakhstan gulags were they were worked to death. In short more Germans died after the war than during it. As you know personally from your poor family personal testament, millions of German females, some as young as 8 years of age were raped repeatedly for years by the Soviets (and even by thugish elements of the British, American and French armies).
@DirkHVM And yet no one knows anything about these tragedies. It is all hushed up. It needs to be brought to the world's attention and not kept quiet. i.e. the biggest mass genocide in history took place against the German people. Yet virtually no one knows anything about it. People like Churchill and Eisenhower are treated as war heroes. But both are murdering cowards. Eisenhower (himself of German Mennonite origin) systematically starved 1 million German Soldiers to death in the Rhineland.
I don't want to argue with you since I also read about these atrocities, but it was a different time and we need to remember that there was a big threat coming from Nazi-Germany. The Geneva convention was young and German soldiers were purposely not treated as "soldiers" but as criminals. Churchill said " The Germans you have either by your feet or at your neck" -he was possibly right at the time. To defeat Germany they thought they had to bomb cities and kill civilians, and bombing Dresden ...
... would be considered a war-crime today. But people had no Internet, no email, no TV, just newspaper and radio through which the sick propaganda was delivered. Even though I am German, I often wonder what would have happened if Hitler would have won the war - you and I were probably not here. All Germans were blond, tall and drilled to be fighting machines. As sickening as it all was, it is good that we lost the war since the Germans would have used the nuclear bomb not only as a threat ...
Im a bit disappointed by this video the great title promised much The German Soul. Yet the only thing I really learned was that at one time, in some parts of Germany, there was a shortage of fish. Oh, that must be where the German sole comes in!
