  • This was a great summer jam, when I was living in Barbados (The sun was always shining) and the radio stations gave it excellent airplay. Back in the UK, it sounds just as fresh. My Man Odawg96 I know what you mean. The 80's was the bomb!!!!!!

  • Fantastese,von breete grate,funckvai musik!!

  • So many memories! Love me 80's crew! xxxxxx

  • Here we go again people.... Some more of that Dayton Ohio Funk!!!! Ya'll need to come on and get with us!!!

  • what a tune.......

  • that is not roger troutman on this record. it is shawny sandridge, who is using a vocoder and not a talkbox in another key.

  • i loved this record the first time i heard it. the musical talent in dayton, ohio is amazing and i'm proud to have grown up around it. i am blessed indeed to know roger troutman(of zapp),johnnie wilder,jr.(of heatwave),shaw sandridge(of dayton),billy beck(of the ohio players) and to many to metion(but they are all in my heart). DAYTON BANDS ROCK!!!

  • This song is one of my all time favourites, never get bored of it.

If you want to know where you get hold of it on CD, you can buy it from an album called 80s Groove & Soul from Amazon or Ebay.. Just bought it.

  • Never Heard This Mix......But Had The Album...Well...The Tape,Lol....Every Single Song Made Me High....I Would Put On My Walkman & Get Lost In The Sounds Of Music...

    Thanx For This...

  • oh this is horrible, fuck you cunt!!!

  • 1985 was a turning point for jazz/soul/funk.....downhill. 1970 - 1985 were the best years for me.

  • Agreed 100% re the men in suits, money etc. and idiots like Cowell promoting rubbish constantly on our TV screens. This track is truly outstanding and makes you actually FEEL great. I can recall buying it on 12" when it came out........superb.

  • I've been looking for this song forever, don't get any better than this. Brings back good memories and a time where there really was good music.

  • Such memories from the old soul weekenders.

  • did Groove Armada do this mix?

  • @art9schw and what song are you talking about?

  • @snowdjagha groove armada made an extended remix of the original 4 min song. I'm almost positive this is that version.

  • @art9schw Really? I'd love to hear that. Is there an mp3 anywhere?

  • Found the song again after 20 years...it is brilliant

  • CD: Disco Giants, Vol 4. Disc 1 Track 8 - not too expensive - on Amazon!

  • I've said elsewhere, but this song makes me so happy to be an 80s kid! Listening to it conjures up memories of Atari 2600, arcade games, Saturday morning cartoons, going to 7-eleven for a Slurpee, comic books costing 60- and/or 75 cents. It was a great time. Musically, in the first half of the 80s, musicians got things right: they perfected the balance of live instrumentation and synth technology. After about '84, everything started to go downhill (except for Prince and his peeops).

  • @Odawg96 It was all about the marriage of R&B, jazz, gospel, funk, and general musicianship. Nowadays trained musicians produce music, but they either produce cracked out jazz music that tries too hard to be original or they make mainstream trash. Ain't no talented musicians in the mainstream ripping raw ass electronic music from the heart. But you know what, when I can, I DJ this stuff out and study it. There is an urban renaissance brewing underground among young computer musicians. Be ready!

  • This takes me back to Dayton's WDAO-FM and Columbus's CTNT radio. This was a mainstay on both stations and was out at the Genesis of my DJ career. Excellent Summertime backyard barbecue music.

  • Great Track

  • Still sounds good today! :)

  • du bon vieux son de funckkkk

  • This is great!

  • This song shows how music lyrics have changed over the years. Not to mention the sound. Simply beautiful.

  • I can't stop listening! Thanks for posting!

  • cute sound love the 70´s

  • if you cant dance to this you aint got feet!

  • @9greggy Or a central nervous system :)

  • So this is what it sounds like!!! Thanks for sharing a classic groove.

  • Anybody know the whereabouts of Shawn Sandridge? he was the leader of Dayton...I am one of the Exec Producers....Steve Buckley I have been looking for Shawn Hit me up on FaceBook I am in Vegas now

  • The vocoder is still alive! I love the sound, and also the fine arrangement of the strings, guitar and bass!!!

  • I love how you can hear the record white noise in the first few seconds. Thanks for posting

  • FANTASTIC !! DAYTON....AMAZING....

  • I agree, this is the SHIT@! I loved this groove the very 1st time I heard it about 6 years back only! The original blew me away and reminded me what powerful music moved us in the 80's! The vocoder doesn't come close though - Rogers was the ONE... Good upload - Sharp!

  • Excellent track.....it made the 80s for me and many who danced to it. DAYTON was amazing.

  • @ evrredy59 R U FUCKIN SERIOUS. If u talkin about dat nicca T-Pain. He uses a digital program to sound like that. Roger used a musical instrument, which was built and designed by my old producers from Dayton, Ohio, PLAYING AND OPERATING IT to do that "robot shit". There's nothing like the original synthetic vocals like Roger's.

  • This was one of my favorite songs to pop and lock to in HS!

  • Not read all the earlier posts so sorry if this has already been asked, does anyone know where I can get the Grant Nelson mix of this?? Excellent upload btw 5 stars! Peace n love :-)

  • Hi! I`m a spanish boy and I am 18. I love this type of music, the music nowadays is not very expressive, very comercial. Thanks for the upload :)

  • Thanks stu71disco. I still have this on wax. Not this version though. Bravo!

  • This is a fantastic song!! I love it!!

  • This song brings back a whole lot of memories...back when music was real and natural with all the different instruments and a 'one keyboard does all' type of sound. How many different instruments can YOU hear?

  • funkin hombres!!! ¬_¬ :D

  • I agree with kober777 this sound right here could stop wars!! As a matter of fact all music like this and this genre in particular could stop wars!! This song is quite effective in erasing bad vibes and emotions. i feel good listening to this song. i am in a good mood listening to 'the sound of music'. The status quo has completely removed this sound from the radio because of its powerfullly positive influence that it has on the masses. Now we have poison like gangster rap!

  • One of the best of tunes of the 80's

  • Supergroovy! Know this song for decades but still jammin! Dayton unfortunately never came over the succes of this song..But its a classic.

  • thanks love it

  • I already loved it in the 80's, now I still do, Thanks.

  • Damn how'd I miss this the first time around. It's a new song for me in the '10.

  • Growing up I never heard of Dayton. Thanks to Youtube for puttin a brotha on.

  • I bet me along with many others didn't realise just how good this track was first time around. Man it's top drawer, we used to use it as a warm up track, disgraceful. This is music at it's very very best!!!!

  • I have this version on vinyl and listen to it at least once a week. One of my all time fave tracks, it'll never grow old. Why don't they play this in clubs anymore?? Educate the young ones that real music existed once!!!

  • Brings back memeories of Walkers night club Newcastle - upon - Tyne. Bring it on.

  • I've lost count of thr times I played this tune today

Beautiful Music ..and that Rachel Beaver voice !!

  • Classic club music from the old days!

  • SNAPS friday nights with DJ Chris Edwards !!!!!!

  • @kober777 tu crois????

  • @rayan10122007 i would like to believe :)

  • I've been looking for this song for 3 weeks SINCE I HEARD IT ON THE RADIO. THE NAME WASNT ON THE LIST OF SONGS THAT THEY PLAYED. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT.! I cant believe this ! I looked for it, EVERYWHERE.

WITH THAT TITLE I KNEW I WAS GOING TO HEAR JULIE ANDREWS SONG...AND i DID I said " I'm not giving up! " I AM so glad I continued to search. found it on the LAST FM . WHOO HOO! THANKS U TUBE AND STU7

  • @yerok7 Youtube is a LIFESAVER, ain't it? Folks on the radio PISS ME OFF about that. You hear this BADASS track, and then they don't tell you who it was. It used to KILL me when I was a kid in the 80s and even in the 90s. But NOW...we got YOUTUBE!

  • Heard this for the first time today-gave me CHILLS. This is right there with AWB's 'Queen of my Soul." JESUS.-and Roger--somebody does "that robot shit" better than YOU-Sorry. this cut is flat out MAGNIFICENT.

  • WOW! where have u been??? This is like the song from which all songs are derived. Slamming!

  • @everready59 It IS Roger doing that robot shit!

  • @homerecordingsystem No. Even though he was popular with the talk box back then. A few others used it as well.

  • @everready59 "CHILLS". That's exactly what this track does to me. It always has, just around the singing of the chorus at "The sound". It's always had this affect on me, and I've been listening to this since it was released!!

  • Comment removed

  • @everready59 Roger Troutman IS the person doing "that robot shit", he just changed the tone of his talkbox voice. Roger also produced another song on this album named, "Love You Anyway"

  • @everready59 Remember buying this way back when it was released and it was just great music, no deal really as there was lot's of great music back then but I can imagine now these days as music is not wthik we should hang hat it was. Luckily re-issues are being made so that the young ones can enjoy. This is not just another kliché but a fact. Music has been fucked up by men in suits who don't give a shit about music but money only. I think we should hang them for committing treason to ART!!

  • @everready59 Stevie Does

  • merci dayton belle conposition

  • 大好きな一曲です 80年代は帰ってこない!

  • woop nevermind i did a search on google and found it =)

  • if its ok, can you tell me where you found it?

  • Now, vocoders are the great feature for a song.

I mean, it makes the song sound like it has robots singing it; and thinking about robots is half the fun of hearing this danceable electrofunk.

  • i wish r&b artists of today go back to its roots and put a little more effort and talent to soul music.
