  • This song would be perfect for this movie. The lyrics suit to the heroin.

Michel Magne 's composition and Jackie Lee's voice are wonderful.

  • very lounge

  • Listening to Crewe/Fox for 40 years makes it very hard to accept any other music. Crewe's vocal themes are very powerful to begin with and Fox displayed an amazing diversity in styles, ranging from Vivaldi to nightclubbing sleaze. Lots of electronic gimmicky but not a synthesizer in sight! The record still has magical charm (a CD with bonus tracks, pleaze!). This version is just playful and sensual, and lacks the campy quality of Crewe/Fox. The movie itself is also utter camp, after all.

  • @dedeurs

The zero gravity sequence is both clumsy and cleverly done. Nice touches: the clearance of her visor and the way she kicks her suit parts out of sight. Jane also shows her titties. Quite daring, in 1968.Please let there be no new version, the original movie is deliciously awful and should stay that way. On the other hand, the dreadful Drew Barrymore would be perfect for a horrible remake...

  • Not as nice as Bob Crewe's rendition

  • @nostalgiclady86 I was not aware that anyone else recorded the Michel Magne "Barbarella" except for myself as I was under the impression that Michel scrapped the whole score. Very interesting that you know more than I do about it. By the way everyone to their own likes and dislikes.

    Jackie Lee.

  • Hey credits, down in front! esp David Hemmings and Dino's credits...lol! best version of the intro at least in terms of picture quality - Fonda never looked better and then she became a feminist activist! who woulda thunkit? I wont bother loading it now.

  • I LOVE IT !!!!!

  • @sunchilde68 thank you for your nice comment I appreciate it.

  • @MsJackieLee my orig comment that got lost was sumthin like this...im going 2 play this over n over, on here and in my head,( which has been the case) i have grown up with barbarella, and am vey much fond of it and its musical score...but i like this song better than the one used..ur song with its gentle feminine, extremely sexy, whispery almost pillow talk vocals has got the right feel, and captures something more relative 2 her character than the other. beauty voice. im in luv..lol

  • @sunchilde68

Thank you so much for your comments. The sound that you liked was one I thought suited the whole aura of the opening credits. It is such a pity that I did not get to record the actual record as the one you hear was the demo I did in London for Roger Vadim to hear before he accepted me, which he did, and that is why I was invited by Roger Vadim's to Paris. There I met Michele at his Chateu to set the new keys for Barbarella and the upcoming recording.

  • @ sunchild68 ctd.

It was shortly after getting back to London I was informed that Michele was out and so was all his beautiful Music as Roger and he had some kind of a falling out. I was always very unhappy about that as I would have loved to have been involved with that Film. Such is life. I am so pleased that you feel the way you do about my rendering of the song. I myself am not keen on the one they used, I though it a very unmemberable Theme.

  • This is wooooonderful! I worship Charles Fox and am devout in my love of the film as it is, in all it's campy glory...but this works great too, maybe even better--mostly because of the coy vocals! Ha ha ha, thanks, this made my day

  • @monkynmee57 I must agree with you about the camp bit, it made me laugh. There is a longer story about how I recorded this Theme song for the film, do you have a few days, Ha Ha Ha.

  • I have all the time in the world for stories like this, I'm sure a lot of us do, ha! Was Dino to blame for the switch? Wouldn't be surprised, ha ha--my friend used to work for him. Just found your cds on Amazon, can't wait to hear more of your work! And thanks for being so responsive to your fans! :)

  • @monkynmee57

Hi There, I was told by a good source that Michele had a todo with Roger Vadim as I believe they were both quite temperamental and that was the cause of the music not being accepted for the Movie. I dont think that Dino De Laurentiis had anything to do with it. Great thought though. Thank you once again for your interest.

    Best Wishes,

    Jackie Lee.

  • Yeah because so many foreign actors and actress are came here in the Philippines so many times. :-) Do you meet Jane fonda when you go to the premiere of BARBARELLA?

  • @hilarioph No I did not meet Jane Fonda at the premier. I was not there myself as my Barbarella song was not in the film due to a spat between Michele Magne( who wrote the original score to the film) and the producer of the film. Sad but true.

  • Hi Jackie lee this is hilario ph from the Philippines. Come to the Philippines soon

  • @hilarioph I would love to see the philippines. I might just take you up on that and take a trip there.

  • Hi Jackie, I hope you wont take offense but the song you sang for the Barbarella movie starring Jane Fonda was great, but the one they actually used in the movie really fit the opening credits. I do like your version too.

  • @amityville4ever No offence taken. You must remember, that take was a demo take and I was sight reading the music and the words at the same time. I wish I could have heard a play back as I would could have done a much better job. However, Michele liked what I had done, so what could I say. I wish we could have recorded the finished product as I can assure you it would have been far superior. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

  • beautiful!

  • Thank you for that nice comment.

  • Hello there 4444nomad,

What a nice thing to say. All I can say is I was very disappointed when told that Michele's score was no longer attached to the film due to a misunderstanding between him and Roger Vadim and I was not able to make that final master tape of Barbarella. As the track you are now hearing was just the Demo tape.

    Jackie Lee

  • This is brilliant ! what a gem of a find!

  • Wow, another quite lovely comment.

    Thanks a lot.

    Jackie Lee.

  • hi jackie..i am in love with this song ..you sing it beautifully ! I cant understand why it wasnt used in the film...what a shame ;0( Thanks for the link to your webpage ..I'll check it out.

  • Hi digitana2002,

I am so glad that you like My Barbarella Theme song. That is the original test tape that I did in London. However, not the original master as a lot of his master tapes were lost in that fire that burned Michele's Chateau down to the ground. I am so lucky that this is the one track that was found and released in France a couple of years ago.

    Cheers,

    Jackie Lee
