Which 6-string guitar would you recommend for touch style guitar, i have been playing touch style for 2 years and am going to buy a new guitar soon. could you also tell me what guitar you use in this video? it looks beautiful!

@orbita1 I use REK guitars on this video. It's 6 string, excelent for tapping. Check it out on rekguitars com.

@AdamFulara Thanks Adam, I have just sent an e-mail to REK guitars asking for a price of a specific guitar that i have fallen in love with. Somehow i believe it wont be cheap :p I might have to get an Ibanez Prestige S (i dont have much money) but i dont know if the thin body will be good for tapping. I was also looking at Vigier but they are quite expensive. I would greatly appreciate it if you have any more advice about body size or pickups. Thanks again! Ben.

@orbita1 My guitar body is not too slim, because it's doubleneck. I recommend Merlin pickups. On my site it will be info soon, REK uses this pickups also, so you can ask them about it.

dont go by brand, although usally metal brands like esp, schecter an ibanez will do a good job,

look for action.. some guitars are just born , designed and set up to have the action as low as possible without fret buzz :).

What do you mean with counterpoint ear? is it related to perfect and relative pitch?

Wszystko bardzo fajnie, ale nie wydaje mi się, żeby w 21wieku, kiedy wymyślono już tyle ciekawych technik gitarowych była potrzeba kopania dzióry w dziórze. Jeżeli znajdziesz chwilę, to wytłumacz mi proszę czy to całe portato powstało z potrzeby, czy może powstało tylko dla samego powstania.

@jurasicpark85 Polecam artykuł "Portato" na mojej stronie internetowej, tam jest wszystko wyjaśnione. Na filmie DVD widać i słychać wyraźnie, że to brzmi zupełnie inaczej niż inne nagrania np. Jordana czy stickowców. Demonstruję przykłady grane najpierw hammer on i pull off a następnie portato.

Inspiracją tego podejścia był Gelnn Gould i jego fortepianowe portato, oraz Pat Martino i jego jazzowe portato (z lat 70) na gitarze. Potrzebą była muzyka, którą wykonuję a nie "wymyślanie".

Yes, I use all the time mpc1000, or metronome, but still it need to be practiced. I play with metronome since I started, but still I should play more with it.

Have you ever tried Perfect 4th's tuning Adam? (EADGCF) I know Stanley Jordan uses it, I find it makes things a lot easier.

Yes and no. If you use standard harmony based on 3th, then you will have problems with playing bass with guide tones, where bass is on the higher position than guide tone. So you have to play bass with your 3 or 4 finger and guide tones with the firstone. It's quite complicated and not comfortable. I play with standard and with B-B tunning.

I like to tune one set of 6 in perfect 4ths and the other in standard... That would work on your portato guitar? Of course, it doesn't apply to a normal single neck.

@TimJMorrison Yes, in Portato guitar I use 2 different tunnings too, one is standard another one is lower (B to B)

Its nice to see such a dvd on the market, visiting important issues like counterpoint was a good idea, since most material you see is on the beat 100 notes a bar.

Theoretically this is a great general product, and technically its a great general product also

I'll be grabbing this, not just as a learning tool but a teaching tool also.

OK, I have informations. All new DVD players (for TV) are "double system" NTSC + PAL, so it should be no problem watching it in the USA even if you don't have computer. BUT we will make some tests in U.S.A. this weekend and if it will not work on DVDs, we will join NTSC copy to each book for USA players.

It's in PAL now, but I'm considering to make NTSC copy for USA zone guitar players. PAL can be watched everywhere at the computer DVD anyway.
