Eh, I didn't care for the tone very much at all. It's really difficult to create a heavy metal guitar pedal that doesn't sound like fizz and buzzing bees.
holy shit!!this song rules!!!!well...i don't know if this sound comes from the MXR pedal but the sound of the guitar is awesome!!(Does anyone know the title of this song:P:P)
The song and playing are great. However the tone of the guitar blows. No mids, sounds muddy as fuck on lower chords. Should have had more midrange in the demo.
a word of advice...from my experience the pedal is so much better on a valve amp than a SS. Almost didnt buy the pedal when i tried it on a SS amp, then put it into my Peavey Royal 8, and this thing sounds sweet.
That was an awesome song and everything but the pedal sounds thin. It sounds cold and it missed some chord definition. The settings were either set wrong or this pedal is thin sounding.
this is a great pedal, the only problem i have, is that when you play thru a bad amp, it is very noticable. i used my board at a gig and i had to use there cab and head, and it wasnt so great, and wasnt so great, naturally means it sucked haha
i was trying out pedals in the shop yesterday and one of the guys who works there came up to me and said "turn that off. You need to play this pedal." i am very, very grateful now
i am a "gigging" guitar player, will someone please let me know that if you were to turn up the amp and/or the pedal volume will you still get the same results asif you were to play it more quietly?
@crazypeoples24686 the quality is reduced as you turn the amp up louder but that doesnt make much difference unless you hit the halfway or so mark. To sort it out just get a more powerful amp instead of turning the volume up too loud
Jeff Loomis uses Schecter Guitars and ENGL Amplifiers. The person in this video is using an Agile Guitar and appears to be using Fender Amplifiers to demonstrate the Fullbore Distortion.
@DDzSlaytanic an Ibanez Tube King is meant for an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT sounding kinda distortion. That's the reason why BOTH my father & I own an Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer, & other distortion pedals too...my dad's got a TS-9 that's modified so it sounds like a 808. plus A TS-808 he modified w/ a Blue LED & to make it sound like a vintage TS-808, He's got a Maxon OD808 (like a lawsuit worthy TS-808 clone) he's also got a BOSS BD2 Blues Driver, a Korg DST1 that he Modified...
is this just improvisation or is it a song cuz this thing fucking rules. if i would play my songs with this tone in my highschool every metal night i would destroy the equipment \m/\m/\m/
its both. in this vid he is using the scoop option in the stompbox but his sound doesnt com only from the eq that the stomp has. he is using it in a fender head pluged into a marshall 4x12. the head used on the clean chanel and also using the eq on the head.
okay thanks ive got this amp its a laney mxd120 watt combo its loud but the amps distortion has noo sustain will tihs add sustain bya lot and its not the guitar
Really want to hear this for my self. I am on the quest for the perfect metal tone. Have been for the last 16 years. Currently I run a line 6 Uber metal pedal through an old laney tf700 fusion amp. The amp has so much bottom end for some reason, Otherwise I would love the tone, I run the line 6 woth the bass at zero and still there is no cut. Maybe this will have the high end I need and all the other good mids I get from the line 6.
i have the greatest metal tone, in my opinion, i use a mccarty prs guitar into my vox tonelab on the metal pedal setting out of the marshall amp model and the vox cabinet, also a little reverb, my treble is at about 2 o'clock, the bass is at around 3 o'clock, and the mids are at 9 o'clock, into my acoustic all tube amp head on the clean channell with the eq's on the amp the exact same as the pedal, and i use wats technically a crate 4x12 but i installed vintage 30's, greatest metal tone ever
i agree with u but if u go deep into the tweaking process then almost anything can be a descent metal distortion, most people think that a serious tweak is messing with ur 3 main eq's, and thats just the very beggining, my settings are perfect cuz i have almost all the mids cut from everything, i have 6 stages of gain, it cuts perfectly through everything, it's very articulate, and to top it all off, i have perfect controlled feedback that sounds like a marshall's feedback
well that might sound good to you but i feel that you need mids cuz they give you more attack where you can actully hear the pick going agains the strings. This depends on what gear your using but i think when you cut all the mids and just relly on the low and high you just get a really woffy distortion with no real defenition to it, its just distortion, but then again that sorta depends on what your using
Eh, I didn't care for the tone very much at all. It's really difficult to create a heavy metal guitar pedal that doesn't sound like fizz and buzzing bees.

I would think of the Ibanez tube king more of an overdrive than an distortion.
GJRM18 2 years ago 4
no way. you're thinking of a tube screamer. tube king is a tube preamp/distortion pedal
evilpinkfreud 2 years ago
@DDzSlaytanic they are different tones, this wins for metal, the tube king is more like rock because it does not have enough gain
