0:57 Japanese didn't have the right to look straight at the emperor's face because it was considered as looking straight at the sun.
A black sun that is, father of the biggest atrocities in mankind. Those who order the killings are worse than the killers. He had a big interest in biology and human body composition hence he ordered to form the Unit 731. This descendant of Satan earned his place in Hell.
Which part of Chinese you from? If from Nanijng, many nanjingers hates japanese. I'm from hong kong btw & i knoiw some people talks about their bad history..
How can the Japanese even discuss the concept of honour after this. People do change and there is no need for Japan to be carrying around this baggage of ill will if they have changed and this could never happen again. The denials from them and the really naive view of many believing the carefully constructed (but implausible) cover ups show that there has been no moral progress. To deny the atrocity and avoid addressing the moral issues shows a very perverted view of the concept of honor.
It hurts to face the truth and accept responsibility for what the Japanese military did, that's why you keep having these constant "deniers"regarding the Rape of Nanking. The Japanese are always so bent on "honor", yet they are not "honorable enough" to owe up to the fact that their war criminals committed such atrocities. Accept the responsibility and face the truth---quit hiding behind that fake cloak. THAT is truly dishonorable!
almighty God will repay this horror with justice. I thank you Iris, from the bottom of my heart, for what you did in bringing TRUTH to light. So many did not have the courage you did. You were truly a visionary..and definitely one of my heroes. I hope you've finally found the peace you've been seeking.
Japan was found the aggressor for the invasion of Manchuria after the Mukden Incident on September 18, 1931 -- six years before Nanjing Massacre. Japan refused to accept thefinding and withdrew from the League of Nations. What you are citing are the propaganda made up by the Japanese revisionists with laughable stories. Nanjing Massacre was reported by New York Times articles and other western media in the spring of 1938. They are available at many university and public archives.
Mr. Chang was a real heroine to many because she has bravely uncover the truth of the war crime that the JAPs had conducted in Nanking, China during WW2. Iris, may you RIP. The truth will prevail and those criminals will be punished by Mighty God enventually.
I strongly believed that the truth she discovered was too sensitive in nature. A lot of people want her dead. It's a set-up to make it look like a suicide..
Unless, you are police involved in the case or somehow personally read the police report. I wouldn't believe a word out of your mouth..
She was a personal friend of mine. There was no conspiracy behind her tragic death. Her family and all her friends were devastated by her sudden passin, but we know for fact that there is no cover up.
@TheTruthOut whoa now, she sure was a strong lady but she wasn't important enough to warrant an assassination and as you have read IYing personally knew her so please don't jump to conclusions.
Iris was always very kind and responsive to fellow writers and her readers. Gave a lot of time and effort to help others, especially the young students who wrote to her.
She stuck a revolver in her mouth and blew her brains out, I don't think that fits the definition of "murder". She left suicide notes, and there were no signs of a struggle. You cant stick a gun in someone's mouth without leaving a mark. I may have a Japanese POV, but that seems pretty irrefutable to me.
Excuse me. Where you have otten the idea that Iris "blew her braing out"? She did committed suicide but did not blow her brain out. She did not use a revolver. I have many of her pictures at her funeal to prove it. I made the arrangement for her memorial service and burial in Los Altos, California myself.
Researching such horror will affect you deeply and hurt you. Iris Chang probably fell into her depression and thoughts of suicide as a result. But women don't usually shoot themselves in suicide. Women are much neater and prefer drug overdose, or cutting of the wrists in a bathtub, for example. I read that she shot herself through the mouth with a revolver, while in her car. This is very messy, and not typical of women's behaviour. RIP, Iris Chang.
She neededs to do more research before claiming those things.
It was Kanji Ishihara who plotted to take Manchuria. His daiary was found.
It is the head of the Japanese army who decided to take Manchuria, not the Japanese government. Furthermore, she should have used "real photos" in her book the Rape of Nanjing.
One example is that one of the photos in the book was published "before" the attack of Nanjing. Without a time-machine, it is impossible to take such a photo.
Your government was dominated by the militarists -- Prime Minister, War Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, and heads of all key ministries all the way down to the regional and coloniel administrative posts across Japan and in each and every invaded and colonized country.
The military was the government in Japan. What is your point?
Why are you, like many deniers in Japan, continue to argue about dairy or photo, but not to talk about why Japanese were killing people by the millions in the cruelest way?
Given the volumeous evidence of Japanese war crimes available from the national archives and many other sources, no one needs more research of materials, but people like you need some genuine soul searching.
The head of the Japanese "army" become the PM after the226 coudeter, which led Japan to a bad path. The one who was ordered to attack Pearl Harbor strongy opposed to the plan.
As a Japanese-American (nikkei) I feel enraged at the Japanese government's denials and the manner they have handled their war guilt. I am also angry that the U.S. has through foreign policy documents I have viewed as a historian, allowed reparations to go unsettled b/c of Japan's help with the Korean and Vietnamese Wars.
My dream is that we Asians and Asian Americans get over the divisions which allowed other nations and cultures to bully us in the past. Japan's govt. is not helping this.
And the foreigners that were there and took photos and videos themselves are fake too? What a bunch of crap. So the murders and rape in Korea is fake? In the Philipines is fake? India? Malaysia? Vietnam? Shall I keep going? I'm sorry... the voices of the people are stronger than any form of photo or video anyway.
You forgot to mentioned Singapore. As matter of fact I just came back from Visiting a history site where Singapore surrender to the stupid Japs. Nuke them one more time. In Singapore there are full of Japs cruelty history site - Changi Chapel one example.
It is your problem if you kill your own people. It is a whole different story to kill another countries' people. If you have a criminal record, you cannot get rid of it.
Japanese government have apologized several times to China about the fact that Japan invaded China and gave huge amout of torture to Chinese people.
Japanese government accepted the fact of Nanking atrocities, but I think Japanese government have not specifically apologized to the atrocities. Because Japanese crime had happened throughout China, Japanese previous apologies also intended apologizing Nanking atrocities.
It's true Japan had apologized over the years, but at the same time Japan enshrines the offenders of these atrocities and pay homage to them and worships them as martyrs. It's an insult to the victims. When veteran such as Shiro Azuma spoke out to give his witness of these crimes he was shunned by the Japanese society and received death threats. It is very difficult to believe that Japanese are sincere with their apology and this makes a very hard for us to ever reconcile.
Hi, I am japanese person and my english is not that good, but I will try to write in english. I think it is normal for a country to elide aspects of its history that are bad when teaching their citizens. The Chinese are also guilty of it too. Never in a Chinese history book will you ever read of the 文化大革命. Admittedly, although this is something that the Chinese did to themselves and not a foreign aggressor, the scale of people killed in Nanjing is nothing compared to what Chinese did in 文化大革命
China has a lot of healing to do. You are right about it not willing to confronts its own ugly past such as the great leap forward, cultural revolution just as Japan does not want to remember about WII. China owes a sincere apology to its own people including Tibetans, Uighurs, and Japan owns sincere apology to the Asian people. Both must find the courage to remember the true history.
There seems to be a difference. Most Chinese want their ugly past such as great leap forward, cultural revolution, 6/4 to be in their text book--but we can't--because our authoritarian rulers do not even permit any public discussions about these matters. Prominent leaders in the democratic Japan on the other hand have repeatedly deny and underplay the atrocities of WII, and it seems be the overall sentiments share by the Japanese people, which is the most hurtful part of it all.
Which? Are you talking about LDP members, who aren't democratic? I would like to know which prominent minsyutou members jumped party lines.
Also, the Rape of Nanjing is in Japanese textbooks. It appears as tested facts on university entrance exams. I'm tired of people saying "the Japanese= X" Whereas X consistently refers to an overarching trait that is shared by multiple races. I know it is frustrating when some politicians in Japan deny it.
Although her book contains misunderstandings and incorrect things, Nanking Atrocities is the fact.
Atrocities and rapes often happened in wars. Once war started, soldiers have to obey orders of superior soldiers and do murder. Once they killed a person, they can do any kinds of criminals without feeling sin, because killing human is the worst criminal and any other criminal (rape) is easy thing compared to murder. So, we should stop war.
It has more to do with the nature of the Japanese people [of course not all]. war does not mean purposely torture and murder 15 million civilians. If the Japanese government is brave and smart enough, they should at LEAST acknowledge and apologize for the atrocity they caused. There is no excuse.
I am Chinese. I don't know if I could say I hate Japanese people, but I cannot look at them they way I look at other people. I am sure I'm not the only one who feels this way
Thank you for being like, the only person who seems to remain unbiased and not racist.
Though I do disagree with the fact that after one has killed a person, they can do anything bad. People feel guilt. Many Japanese soldiers have spoken up and confessed to the war atrocities.
wow Japanese gov are so screwed up. How can they not put "The Rape of Nanking" in school's textbooks? That happened and it's not a hoax, my grandma went through it and my grandpa was killed and Grandma was raped and then killed. It's real and fact. I don't think the japanese is morally right to shadow their actions from the past and their people deserves to know, especially children
Because they're ashamed of their past.. hence the denial. But that is no reason for denying such atrocities. The victims and families of victims is surely in rage on this denial.
IT WAS REAL.. the same thing happened here in south east asia. There are many rape victims here who survived and live to tell the story.
My grandfather almost beheaded with spy allegation, but was saved by his own diary.
The japanese look down on all Asian races. Divine retribution will come when China reaches the peak of her power. The little island of Japan will sink to the bottom of the sea.
Not true. Japan is part of Asia. How can we look down ppl in same ethnic group? There are just too much hate toward Japan from China and Korea. Sad thing, but Japan will peace and keep investing and donate huge amount of money to Asia.
In our own language, "mabuhay ka" miss Iris Chang... fo rbeing so brave and independent in writing your book, the rape of nanking... I admire you and may the world see this past so we may learn from it and never to repeat it again as well as to make the japs pay for their crimes.
if you know 1 percent of what japs did in china in II world war, you certainly don't think a apology would be enough to let Chinese people and the whole world forgive those beasts. I think Iris Chang not only felt sad about the facts she discovered from rape of Nanking, but deeply disappointed in human race, that could so inhuman and cruel. i think majority of Chinese don't think they can have a real "friendship" with Japanese, even though they know civilliants had nothing to do with it.
Study some history - Chinese have been persecuted a great. deal My own Country - you know multi-cultural Canada - had a friggen legislation that dehumanized the Chinese and they murdered them like dogs building the North American Railway human beings damn it human beings.-.......and slaughtered 100.000.000 indigenous and had legalisation that dehumanized them as well
I first heard her death from the radio in the morning on my way to work. I felt so shocked and deeply saddened by the news. The world lost a warrior of justice. Her life was so short while so magnificent. I was sickened and disgusted by what are reported from her book, the Rape of Nanking. How a lady like her could stand those horrendous images from Nanjing Massacre, day and night?
Salute to Ms. Iris Chang! May her soul rest in peace in Heaven!
Higher superior of the japanese military strictly commanded their soldiers not to mention any of their crimes and illegal acts when communicating with their own family in japan during their invasion of asia countries.
Only seven of them as Class A war criminals of japan were executed by the Tokyo tribunal 1946-1948, not the Imperial Emperor king Hirohito and all the members of the royal family , not general Ishii of unit 731 and more...WE SHOULD THANK US GOVERNMENT FOR THE CONSEQUENCES BY LETTING THE REST OF THE WAR CRIMINALS BACK TO POWER AND AUTHORITY AS GOVERNMENT AGENCIES after WW2!!! BE AWARE!!! THEY WILL BE BACK!!!
wouldn't you have just loved to have been one of tose jap soilders??? Raping all that pussy young and old, pregnant chinese raping and slitting their bellies if they wouldn't submit and doing it after.
INVASION !! not like JAPAN altered school textbooks written out as " entering to the nearby countries " . If the wrong side has made apology and turn around or years after re-attempting performing the bad acts again , WHAT WAS THE MEANING FOR MAKING ANY TYPE OF APOLOGY ???
humans are indeed capable of such dreadful acts.. that is why we need to save us and everybody else from ourselves! we have the highest resposibility to live and let live just because we also have the sixth sense!
Iris Chang...thanks for verifying and showing the evil and brainwashed Japanese people who refuse to accept this horrible atrocity (I'm just saying the Japanese people WHO REFUSE IT...not the entire Japanese population -.-") and publishing the book "The Rape of Nanking". Five stars indeed.
But, again, there are words that are used such as -- words like 'regret,' 'remorse,' 'unfortunate things happen.' It is because of these types of wording and the vagueness of these expressions that Chinese people, I think, are infuriated."
"I don't know. Did you hear an apology?" Ms. Chang said. "And I think that if he had said genuinely, I personally am sorry for what the Japanese military had done during World War II,
In the early '30 China was in transition, the Nationalist and the Communist were fighting for poower. The work of Iris Chang will never be forgotten. She opened all our eyes. Some of the Japanese people deny this really happened, but ask the Canadian POW's in Hong Kong during the second world war. They will tell you what the Janpanese are capable of.
Nanking Massacre is the shame of Japan. But in deed ,it's shame of all the Chinese.Because a country failed to protect its capital, men failed to protect their women, children failed to remember what their ancestors had sufferred, governors failed to struggle the right of it's citizens.
sooooo are yu tellin me.... if someone is sik and small and WEAK i will have the RIGHTs to BASH the shit outer him..... and in the end he should share the responsiblity as well.... i dnt think soooo... jus cau china was weak back then that gives NO right fro the FUKEN japs to do shits like this....
I totally agree with you. And it is a SHAME for the Japanese government for not apologize and not admit the fact that their ancestors had done such a inhumane acts. We should always not forget about these events just like the US not to forget about 911 incident. Not to revenge, but a lesson that everyone should learn from.
The Japanese would never admit their faults for during such inhumane acts to millions of people in the World unless someone force them to. Countries like China, Korea, and other South East Asian Countries should be united and do something about it and make the Japanese realize how much resentment we have about what their ancestors had done to our ancestors.
I find it amazing—and amusing—how many Japanese people on YouTube are so uneducated in this topic, yet arguing as if they were pros. They live in deep denial and make a fool of themselves in public. What I don't get is why some Japanese are still trying to dispute the facts when THEIR VERY OWN government has acknowledged that the Massacre happened. They think they're winning honour for their country, but in reality what they're doing is disgraceful to themselves and their countrymen.
The Japanese government distanced itself from the claims made at the conference. "They certainly do not represent the government's view, nor do they represent the view of the majority of Japanese people," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The incident reflects Japan's difficulty to face up to some of the dark periods of its history. Many people are ignorant of the facts of the Nanking massacre, the Ministry says, as it's only recently been mentioned in school history text books.
A controversial conference disputing that Japanese troops carried out a massacre at the Chinese city of Nanjing in the 1930s went ahead a few years ago despite Chinese protests. The meeting, titled "The Verification of the Rape of Nanking: The Biggest Lie of the 20th Century", was organised by a nationalist group and held in a public museum in Osaka. About 100 protesters, mostly Chinese and Japanese, waved banners outside the centre with slogans such as "Nanking is an undeniable fact".
Good to see attention re-focused on these events near its 70th anniversary... two new movies on Iris and Nanking, and of course, the coming release of Chusan Road, revealing the real cause of her "suicide."
I still have her book, and it is great. ITs sad she passed away
I hope the Japanese government will eventually apologize and come to terms of what it done in the past (The brutal conquest and invasion of Asia (including China) and attack on the Pearl Harbor) and follow Germany's good example after WWR II of acceptance and learn the great lessons from history.
japan of today is not the japan of that time and they have a great culture as whith germany good people can be led astray if they put all their trust in their leaders that is the greatest lesson we can learn know who you place in high positions...take the time to become informed
The Japanese people, like people of other countries, take pride in their country's great achievements. Therefore, they should also take ownership of their country's atrocities.
I still have her book back in my home country, What happened to Iris Chang? not all Japanese are evil, ex. the ordinary citizens with good intentions but I hope the Japan government will eventually apologize and don't deny the tragic history and teach their new generations and young people nothin' but the real truth and follow Germany's example after World War II
she quotes, emperor herokieto said 'violence and aggression is necessary for the survival of japan'.what a load of bullshit, killing innocent men, women and children by burying them alive or burning them alive is not showing violence it's evil and not necessary, there are even stories of the bastard japs hanging people up by there tongues.BLAH,BLAH,BLAH.BLAH the japs are just making excuses now to cover there dirty evil hands.
The Japanese people need to accept and apologize, not resent, its past and what happened to the Chinese people. The Rape of Nanking is an obvious truth. However, I also think that we have to look upon Japan fairly as well, not to completely dehumanize them. (although the atrosities they caused were demon-like)
hmmmph, the sad thing about the world we live in today is that people think they are more educated but are pitifully brainwashed by the government. this applies to pretty much every country on the face on this earth. people think CHINA is brainwashed by their leaders because they're "communist"? chinese people are more educated about the outside world than fucking americans by lightyears.
The rape of Nanking was horrible and Japan will apologize, eventually.
Consider this, here in America we as a government have not fully atoned for the crimes that were committed against the Native Americans, this is one of the reasons the Crazy Horse Memorial is being built.
But to deny Chinese atrocities committed against say, the Lu in Southern China/Northern Thailand is to put them in the same position as the Japanese and Americans.
I read it somewhere that Emperor Hirohito agreed to share some of the Stolen GOLD Bars Loot with MacArthur and FBI Hoover so he was save and his cousins too, Majority of Southeast Asian Gold, some British Gold stored in singapore, some British Gold Before 1941 are all hidden by japan in many tunnels in Philippine Islands, Japanese want to ask USA to give Philippine to Japan
Dear good people of China. The Japanese who murdered tens of thousands of Chinese people in Nanjing are still denying it ever happened. You can teach them a lesson. Boycott their products. I watched Iris when her book first came out, she was being interviewed on
Book-TV (C-SPAN) it's still randomly available on their web site,
If she hadn’t stepped in, these facts of history would have faded away,
just as the WWII generation has,
Unusual for a girl in her late 20’s to delved into this raw subject, one that even
hardened soldiers don't like to talk about, but Iris was an exceptional person,
Iris Chang is gone RIP, however her work and name will live on for centuries

Iris Chang: brave, integrated, distinguished lady

Japan was found the aggressor for the invasion of Manchuria after the Mukden Incident on September 18, 1931 -- six years before Nanjing Massacre. Japan refused to accept thefinding and withdrew from the League of Nations. What you are citing are the propaganda made up by the Japanese revisionists with laughable stories. Nanjing Massacre was reported by New York Times articles and other western media in the spring of 1938. They are available at many university and public archives.

I strongly believed that the truth she discovered was too sensitive in nature. A lot of people want her dead. It's a set-up to make it look like a suicide..
Unless, you are police involved in the case or somehow personally read the police report. I wouldn't believe a word out of your mouth..

She stuck a revolver in her mouth and blew her brains out, I don't think that fits the definition of "murder". She left suicide notes, and there were no signs of a struggle. You cant stick a gun in someone's mouth without leaving a mark. I may have a Japanese POV, but that seems pretty irrefutable to me.
frtyuj 3 years ago
Excuse me. Where you have otten the idea that Iris "blew her braing out"? She did committed suicide but did not blow her brain out. She did not use a revolver. I have many of her pictures at her funeal to prove it. I made the arrangement for her memorial service and burial in Los Altos, California myself.

She is an excellent journalist.
However, special training to treat the history is not taken.
The story was made up only of the victim's testimony disregarding evidence and
the historical record thing.
The negligence to the figure will consequentially bring China the
disadvantage in the future.

IYDing 3 years ago
Why are you, like many deniers in Japan, continue to argue about dairy or photo, but not to talk about why Japanese were killing people by the millions in the cruelest way?
Given the volumeous evidence of Japanese war crimes available from the national archives and many other sources, no one needs more research of materials, but people like you need some genuine soul searching.

EmpireOfGreaterJapan 3 years ago

JT0420 3 years ago
China has a lot of healing to do. You are right about it not willing to confronts its own ugly past such as the great leap forward, cultural revolution just as Japan does not want to remember about WII. China owes a sincere apology to its own people including Tibetans, Uighurs, and Japan owns sincere apology to the Asian people. Both must find the courage to remember the true history.
ywszesqx 3 years ago
There seems to be a difference. Most Chinese want their ugly past such as great leap forward, cultural revolution, 6/4 to be in their text book--but we can't--because our authoritarian rulers do not even permit any public discussions about these matters. Prominent leaders in the democratic Japan on the other hand have repeatedly deny and underplay the atrocities of WII, and it seems be the overall sentiments share by the Japanese people, which is the most hurtful part of it all.
ywszesqx 3 years ago
"Prominent Democratic leaders"

EmpireOfGreaterJapan 3 years ago
Im a Jap.
The fundamental enemy is militarism.
EmpireOfGreaterJapan 3 years ago
It has more to do with the nature of the Japanese people [of course not all]. war does not mean purposely torture and murder 15 million civilians. If the Japanese government is brave and smart enough, they should at LEAST acknowledge and apologize for the atrocity they caused. There is no excuse.
I am Chinese. I don't know if I could say I hate Japanese people, but I cannot look at them they way I look at other people. I am sure I'm not the only one who feels this way
Lavender1124 3 years ago
Thank you for being like, the only person who seems to remain unbiased and not racist.
Though I do disagree with the fact that after one has killed a person, they can do anything bad. People feel guilt. Many Japanese soldiers have spoken up and confessed to the war atrocities.
But hey.

HinataHyuuga13 3 years ago
Because they're ashamed of their past.. hence the denial. But that is no reason for denying such atrocities. The victims and families of victims is surely in rage on this denial.

if you know 1 percent of what japs did in china in II world war, you certainly don't think a apology would be enough to let Chinese people and the whole world forgive those beasts.
JCRLives 4 years ago
[2/3]
