  • good routine :)

  • @snazziest212 lol svetlana had a personality?? she was acted like a childish brat

  • @luv4cascy she did say personality. but not a good one

  • she scored better on this beam performance than she did in the AA, even with that little hop at the end :)

  • what a roboT

  • I love how they say her dismount was by far the most difficult dismount being done..double arabian is a G level dismount..ponor did a full twisting double back which is also a G so really they're just exagerating and being biased as usual , common for nbc

  • @kyle887923 I think it is because Carly's dismount was done in combination. She had two direction changes in the dismount sequence, and the BBC commentator said it was the hardest dismount she had ever seen.

  • @kyle887923

At the time, the Arabian double front WAS rated higher. (Super E vs. E for the full-in.) Now whether or not one is actually more difficult from a gymnastics standpoint is a totally different story!

  • i have carly's autograph on my t shirt :) i still love her :)

  • What awful sheep jump.

  • I can't believe someone sid for form is bad - she has perfect form - she is an absolutely amazing gymnast and I hope she makes a comeback for 2012! What an unbelievably difficult routine!

  • @pappysprite she won't make a comeback, she has back problems, that's why she quit

  • It's a shame how many empty seats there are at the olympics. I know it depends on the event, but if the seats aren't filled by a certain time, they should give away freaking tickets so people could have the privilege of watching this.

  • @snazziest212 Svetlana was a straight up bitch who expected everyone to kiss her feet when she walked into a gym, thanks but I'd rather remember Carly who at least showed grace and humility when she lost, and didn't throw a temper tantrum like Khorkina did.

  • really good

  • yal come on shes slow and steady

  • She is absolutely incredible on beam!

  • There is no deduction for performing slowly, as long as her connected elements don't have a gap of time between them. So, if she's supposed to do two jumps in a row, and she does them slowly but smoothly, without changes in pacing, it's ok.

However, if she *pauses* between the connected jumps, there's a deduction.

  • Perfect routine but she is so slow....There is no deduction for performing everything so slowly?

  • Looking at this again, I am surprised that Carly was given the sheep jump; the feet are supposed to touch the hair, and Carly's feet were nowhere near her hair. I dont think she would be given in nowadays.

  • soooooooooo close!!!!

  • ughh, i hate her form! Her backward series sure resembles the one in Nastia's 2008 routine. =)

  • well, they did come from the same gym

  • It's the WOGA compulsory beam routine! Although I do really like her dismount.

  • please do...id LOVE to hear your opinion. tell me how khorkinas bobbles on beam and shaky landings on her jumps on floor beat pattersons routines?

  • Saulyboy09: Khorkina will be remembered for the grace and lines for other gymnast had. She has a move named after her on every event, the only gymnast to do so. She has a some kind of elite gold from every event. Carly is a great gymnast, but you can not deny Khorkina was just special.

  • theurbansoul:I agree w/you 100% on that. but im just talking about the olympics AA comp. Carly vs Khorkina. Carly out performed her. Is Carly as succesful as khorkina? No. But I do think Carly was the better gymnast the olympic year. and im going to go as far to say she wouldve beat khorkina @ worlds the year prior if it werent for her vault. Both are great gymnasts and there will be no on like khorkina.

  • Yes I do think Carly deserved her AA title as well...Khorkina was felling her age by 2004 while Carly was new and fresh and put on a nearly flawless performance and deserved the gold and the Wheaties box.

  • Not quite. Anyone who knows anything about gymnasts would agree sveta's aa vault score was WAY underscored and carly's floor was overscored. those judges did everything they could so svetlana wouldnt win.

  • just kidding never mind :0

  • was this in team competition?

  • no, it was in the event finals

  • love her leotard!

  • I don't like Carly much but her beam is Extrodinary!

  • omg she's awesome

  • She gets HUGE HEIGHT on her layouts.

  • she only have the olympic title but no other

    classic routine at all

and the quality of her routine is very bad

    but quite difficult and constant

she deserve the title but no other

  • i unsertand it is called ARTISTIC gymnastixcs. i think that why cata won the gold. plus cata had a little more difficulty.

  • Gutsu and Raducan were great gymnast, but I would not say that are more widely remembered in gymastics history than any other gymnast. The only gymnast that continue to really stand out in history are Nadia Comaneci and to a lesser degree Olga Korbut.

  • although she and mary lou retton won the olympic aa champion but both of them had no influence in the gymnastic history at all except winning fame and money in usa

  • i don't like her at all!she is almost the worst olympic all around champion since 1988

tatiana gutsu lilia andreea raducan are much better than her she does't have the charm of other olympic aa champion

  • I totally agree!! Don't get my wrong, I'm American and I'm very proud of our gymnasts, but I don't like Patterson at all!! I think she should not have won the AA, Khorkina deserved it more and has worked a lot harder than Patterson. I think this girl is a moron and you haven't heard a word about her since these games!! She got lucky on one night,, and she hasn't done anything before or since!!

  • She's actually been working quite hard since the Olympics, she is trying to become a singer - LOL. I think she should give up after four years of minimal success, most of it related to gymnastics anyway.

  • Ponor is in a different league to Carly...

I have nothing against power gymnasts, I love Shawn Johnson's work but it has has character and something special but Carly is so robotic while Cata Ponor is a real beam virtuoso, still difficult in 2008 and with less errors than most of the 2008 finallists. Carly won AA because Korkhina made errors on floor, if she has gone clean it would have made the difference...

  • Who gives a crap about Ponor and beam.. Carly won all-around which is THE thing to win. Let Ponor have her gold on beam

  • Ponor won team gold and gold on floor and beam... She didn't compete AA, like Cheng Fei, she is weak on bars...

Ponor on beam is an exhibition of how to do beam.. she is fluid, has extra difficulty she doesn't need and it looks natural and easy..

  • I think people are forgetting that this is ARTISTIC gymnastics: Cata's routine was far more ARTISTIC! Her connections were more creative: her Omelianchick skill where she drops down to the beam was so lovely and artistic: her acro connections were cleaner and flowed more. Cata was far more artistic, whereas Carly's routine is athletic. Cata deserved gold, no question:)

  • i think if carly would have kept her bhs step-out full twist on beam (which i think is probly pretty difficult) she could have won the gold. i dont thik she had enough difficult in the routine . cata did but not in the dismount.

  • I think a full-in dismount is pretty damn difficult!!Apart from Carly's standing Arabian, and her dismount, her routine wasnt anything special really. Cata had nice, distinctive combinations, and her routine just "flowed" better.

  • No questions about it Carly SO TOTALLY DESERVED the Gold Medal!!!!

  • that's true

  • I think carly deserved to win, ponor had a hop on her landing too and if you look at ponor's form, it is aweful especially in the knees, they are not straight at all!

  • Both routines started out of a 10. As for Ponor her form is horrendous, and the judges don't take off nearly enough on her dismount.

Patterson beat Khorkina fair and square, no question about it. NOt even close, if you can't see that then you're blind.

  • Yeah, I never liked Carly "the robot" Patterson. She was lifeless.... and forgettable

  • OMG, I really like her dismounts

  • She deserved to beat Ponor. Ponor has the most horrible form of any gymnast I've ever seen.

  • Have you heard of Kristen Maloney?

  • Not on beam. Her form is atrocious only on the twisting elements (her oh-so-lovely tucked triple full) and she had a very obvious leg separation on her dismount. Apart from that, all of her skills had max amplitude (her back flexibility is unmatched even by today's gymnasts). Plus, Carly's form is no better (flat feet, poor extension on the leaps&sheep jump and cowboy on the dismount) and her choreography is non existent. Don't get me wrong, Carly's a wonderful BB worker. But so is Catalina!

  • Her form is atrocious, huh? I'd like to see you do better. If you can't, you shouldn't really be talking.

Like Catalina better? Get off this page then. People come here to see Carly and positive comments about her. No one likes people who troll pages and flood them with negativity.

  • How exactly "Carly's a wonderful BB worker" is considered a negative comment I'll never know...

Plus, I was referring to Ponor's poor form on the twisting elements in response to Penguin888's comment. Please read the whole thread before posting!

  • @itstheapocalypse I totally agree with you! Carly was one of the best beam performers ever. I love how light she made all the movements look rater than forced. She was awesome and I am still hoping she makes a comeback. How can anyone say she had bad form? They are out of their minds - thankfully they are not a judge!

  • Champion gymnast, gold-deserving routine, awful leotard. Those poor girls!

  • i don't even think it was the step on the dismount... her connections were really slow... and the judges CAN take off on those if they want. now, the judges are REALLY mean when it comes to connections - she probably wouldn't even be getting those counted as connections today

  • So Close!! ponor: 9778 and carly got a 9775. Darn Close!!!

  • no way ponor's routine was amazing, kills carly

  • I agree, should have been gold. Her double front Arabian trumps Ponor's full twist, 2back any day, all day long and they both hopped on the landing. Ponor had a lot of little breaks in the air--Carly was fluid and steady.

  • almost a clean routine..

  • she looks pissed though...sure a gold medal is what she wanted but silver is great also, i guess. this is also the most nervous i've ever seen her.

  • She had a score that would have qualified her for bar finals but because of the two athlete per country rule, she didn't compete. She was the first alternate for floor finals because of a mistake on a dance element. But, she had the highest vault score of the US during qualifications, but because she only competes one vault, she couldn't qualify for that final.

  • yeah she messed up on a cat leap- 8( She could have got the gold seeing how ponor only got a wat? 9.75 plus the silver medalist only got a 9.5 something!!!

  • she did a yurchenko double and a piked 1/2 (start value 9.6) when she was junior

  • She was going for FX finals too, but ended up as a reserve because of her mistake in qualys :)

  • Woo. I completly typed that wronge. I ment Im pritty sure it was two.

  • iM PRITTY SURE IT WAS 2

  • shouldve been gold IMO
