Wow! i'm surprised at how little you guys like ROTJ. I think the space battles is one the coolest in the series! I love the desperation of the rebels when they figure out the death star is operational. Lando's qoute is amazing when he says they need to fight the star destroyers at point blank range," we'll last longer than we will against that death star and we might just take a few of them with us!" Love it! Also, how could you not talk about Luke and Vadars battle? i thought it was well done.
Ok, I think it's safe to say that anyone who knows Star Wars or has the slightest idea of what a good movie is, would prefer to watch any of the original trilogy before any of the prequels! I love the Cinefiles and love how knowledgable you guys are but, ROTJ is grossly misrepresented here! Both Vader and the Emperor's arrival to the Deathstar! Luke's heroics at the Pit of Carkoon! The speeder bikes! Lando leading the assualt on the Deathstar! Luke and Vaders final duel! Epic no?
I'm sure you know by now the band in the Christmas Special was Jefferson Starship, who used to be Jefferson Airplane in the 1960's. I think they filmed that not too long after Grace Slick left.
It's a foul point when they fail to mention how good the final saber fight between Vader and Luke was in RETURN. Best moments of the movie, and my main beef against R of the J is it was too mixed between very kiddish and more serious like Empire was.
Return of the Jedi. I heard a rumor that David Prowse (the man in the Vader suit) was originally filmed as the old Vader when the mask is removed. In an interview before the film came out, he bragged that people would finally see his face. Lucas was so pissed that he spoiled the surprise that he reshot the scenes with another actor playing mask-less Vader. Don't know if it's true, but if it is, HAHAHAHA
Attacking "Return" is so cliche and annoying. It really comes down to people who enjoyed Star Wars as kids, then grew up and hypocritically attack Lucas for making a kids-friendly movie!
It's my favorite of the 6 movies: it combines the best of the previous two films, the fun action of the 1st, with the complex character study of the 2nd. The final confrontation between Luke and Vader is unforgettable.
I think cinefiles is great but when the question of favorite scene in ROTJ is asked and all 4 four pretty much agree that tatooine is the only good parts of this movie, u know u gotta call BULLSHIT. Granted ewoks suck wampa dick and ROTJ is the least best of the three movies, it still has other redeeming scenes other than tatooine which were criminally ignored in this conversation.
@asscrack244 For example the throne room segment contains some of the most powerful scenes in the whole saga: luke slicing off vaders hand and rejecting the emperor by looking at his own hand, vaders redeeming act of deciding to kill the emperor, vaders unmasking etc,
@asscrack244 not to mention emperor palpatine is such an awesome villain, like, u cant believe that at the top of this mighty empire is this creepy 90yr old fart, but when he opens his mouth and just spews pure evil with every line, u know u do not fuck with this guy.
@asscrack244 Also, another great scene is when yoda dies. U know every star wars fan cries a little inside when that little fucker kicks the bucket. Any way thanks for all your reviews, commentaries and insights. u guys are great.
I really liked the return of the Jedi actually i even liked it more then Star Wars a new hope.
I would say my list is:
1) The Empire Strikes Back
2) Return of the Jedi
3) Star Wars A New Hope
4) Revenge of the Sith
5) Attack of the Clones
6) The Phantom Menace
The Phantom Menace for me was like a poor Disney movie. Very kidfriendly with horrible cheesy dialogue. Attack of the Clones was better but still not great. Revenge of the Sith was a lof better.
I think Return of the Jedi holds up very well, it's definitely still the third best in the series. I disagree with those who say it's weaker than the prequels.
One other thing to mention about Return of the Jedi - it was also pretty much the beginning of tossing out continuity in favor of whatever whims Lucas might have. For instance, C3P0, who begs out of telling Luke his story in the first movie because he's not good at it, is suddenly a master storyteller who has the Ewoks gripped by a tale complete with special sound effects and voice impersonations. Cute things like this were the start of what ended up with crap like R2D2 flying in the prequels.
Good show. Re: merchandising, though - people are always crediting/accusing Lucas with starting the merchandising trend, but that's not really the case. He made his fortune off of it, but merchandising was already common. Look at Planet of the Apes. It had massive merchandising associated with it years before Star Wars.
Glad to see you guys back on YouTube after so many months. Loved your takes on the original trilogy and loved your comments...especially how you slammed Mike for his Clerks-que ramble. He always reminds me of Randal for some reason.
Interesting facts: The Ewoks were originally going to be Wookies, but it was easier to costume dwarves than find enough 7 ft people.
I'm also surprised you guys didn't mention the epic fight between Luke and Vader, as well as the Emperor's first showing. LOL!!
Great show guys!! can't wait for the next one....one slight suggestion...u may wanna try showing some more skin...might i suggest tank tops or better yet no shirts at all!!!
Glad to see you guys back with new episodes! I've loved Star Wars since I saw Return of the Jedi at age 6. Excellent discussion of the original trilogy. I also agree that Jedi is the weakest but it still has some good stuff in it. Can't wait till you post the next episode about the Phatom Menace thru Revenge of the Sith. Keep up the good work guys.
What was so good about Frank Oz? I always felt I heard Fozzy in Star Wars. Ever heard the radio version? John Litghow does Yoda and does a better job at it.
Jefferson Starship!! That's it! Couldn't remember the band but there it is. Next ep we actually see Ray make the drink Mike sips at the top of the show. If it were up to me all our eps would be shot in bars -- oh, wait. Our next two-parter was shot in a bar as well. Nevermind.
Welcome back guys! I've missed you! I too am a huge movie fan and I love your show because it is discusssion about all film from the classics to b-movies, but you treat each one with resect and admiration. In fact, there are films that I had never heard of that I instantly added to my netflix and have enjoyed. (The Long Good Friday is one of the greatest gangster movies that I had ever seen, and would have missed if it weren't for you) Keep up the great work and hope to see you soon!
Yes, The Silent Partner was fantastic because you usually don't see Eliot Gould in such a serious role. He was excellent and they should have let him do more dramatic acting instead of his wishy-washy comedic roles. The best acting in this movie has to go to Christopher Plummer though he was truly menacing and I feel that H-Wood underrates him. He is truly a fantastic character actor. You guys have shown me some great gems that I never heard of and I can never thank you enough. Keep it up!
Oh come on guys, the showdown between Vader and Luke is one of the best moments in the whole series in Jedi, not to mention arguably the best light saber fight. Return of the Jedi is better than all of the prequels, even Revenge of the Sith, which I thought was good.
I agree, my favorite parts of Return of the Jedi are the the gang rescuing Han from Jabba, the battle around Death Star 2 and all the stuff between Luke, Vader and the Emperor. Ian McDiarmid's perfomance is sooo good.

It was originally going to be the wookies.

Thank you! Yes, we're still on MNN. If you want to tune in, we're on Wednesdays at 8:00 on channel 57. We just taped a bunch of new episodes that should start broadcasting this week.
YES!! WELCOME BACK!! So glad you guys were able to post a new episode! YouTube, feature these frikkin' guys, will ya?? One of the best channels on YouTube! Hope to see more of you, guys.
Thank you! Sorry, for the long delay in getting new episodes up. We're all been very busy and it took some time to get these together. Anyway, thanks for hanging in there and look for us on our Facebook discussion page. We're there posting and replying to our fans.
Please let us know what you think of the show and look for Episode Two to be posted very shortly.
No apology necessary, Edwin! I understand--I'm far more guilty than you of taking a while to produce videos. I have a small but loyal following for a fictional episodic series (a series which is admittedly derivative and imperfect, btw) on my channel, and I take much longer than you guys between episodes, so I shouldn't talk. The only suggestion I have is that I'd love to see you guys do an episode on Kubrick! And would I enjoy seeing you guys trash Michael Bay some more? Ya, I would. ;)

George Lucas offered to buy the rights to Dewey in Silent Running. But they wouldn't sell him the rights. So R2D2 was born.

Hand Solo, nice. I like Edwin's uber geekness; can't go a whole show without opening a cola.
Favourite part in Empire for me is the meteorite scene punctuated by 3PO's squealing and Williams score.
Would agree with y'all on Return if not for Ian McDiarmid's brilliant performance. Definitely most enthralling character of the series for me.
Final lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader epic, again, supported by glorious score.
Return my personal favourite.
Peace
PS: about time y'all are back.
