This performance CHANGED MY LIFE. At the time of these awards I was broke, unemployed and could not find any direction for my life.I watched Lena in wonder and believed in myself and my ability to turn my life around. God bless you Lena. RIP. X
One of the magicians of twentieth century music. She made each song a message and that charisma is never going to be revived by the current crop of sassy thangs who think soul is just an attitude or an affectation. She will always be associated with great music, style and better days.
I was 24, living in Manhattan, when a friend gave me 4 tickets to Ms Horne's newly opened B'way show. We didn't really know who it was we were going to see (that's youth for ya). When Lena made her entrance you could actually hear the audience gasp in unison, "She's so beautiful!" In the 30 yrs hence, I've never seen another entertainer even come close to Lena's incredible voice and charisma and baby, by this time, I've about seen 'em all! Thank you Quincy Jones for recording this concert.
Phenomenal! Class, Grace, Poise, Passion and even Sex Appeal (2:22)! LOL...If I am able to sing half as well when I perform, my heart would forever remain full. "I'll see you in the rapture, some sweet day!" May your soul be at rest dearest Lena Horne.
Miss Lena Horne, as a 23 year old guy from a country town in Austarlia about only 600 people in the town, it shows how far and wide your talent stretched and touched everyone may god bless you and may you rest in peace, one of the true class act's of her time and this day and age love you your the queen of black prople all over the world weather arican american, aboriginal australians, jamaican, african, what ever god bless you........
@tonybklyn Can someone PLEASE help,I live in the UK,I am desperately trying to obtain a copy of the VHS tape of The Lady and Her Music which was issued by RKO VHS circa 1984.I have tried EVERYWHERE without success.I MUST have this tape which was by the greatest female entertainer ever.
that woman got better looking with age without botox and the rest female entertainers need to learn from her its all about classlol and i love her humor RIP
Lena is talking right to me... May she rest in peace. The most beautiful black female entertainer EVER. She aged better than anybody I've seen on TV. That voice will be forever missed and her beauty is timeless. She paved the way for every black female entertainer of the latter half of the 20th century and 21st. Love you Lena!
My mother took my twin sister, cousin and I to see Ms. Horne in "The Lady and Her Music." At that moment I fell in love with this womans spirit. I have watched "Stormy Weather" probably 100 times or more (Really). May her sweet and courageous soul rest in peace. She will be missed. I thank God that we had the opportunity to be entertained and taught by such an extraordinary woman.
I am so glad you uploaded this again. It had been missing from YouTube. It just illustrates the wit, beauty and artistry of this great lady. Here she is in her 60's, still kicking ass.
She always carried herself as a S*T*A*R with a capital S.
this is CLASS...there will NEVER be another. No amount of "web coverage" , pop buzz or media sensationalism can take the place of the dignity, talent, and radiance this woman had. NEVER had a "need" for booty clappin or artifical "fillers" because she had TRUE TALENT. You are a FLOWER Ms Horne...THANK YOU for your service to the human spirit and collective heart & soul. God bless you R.I.P. When you run into MJ up there, could the 2 of you do a duet for the Angels with Ray Charles on the keys?
I would like to be reincarnated as that Tony.
