@19nisey69 Spoken word poetry is an art. A means of expressing oneself to others. I can't speak for everyone, but I love it because it gives me something I can connect to. It's so easy to see the passion in what someone is writing/speaking about. You could ask yourself why you like the things that you like, things that other people may think are crap. How would you respond to that?

If you don't like it, don't watch it. Simple enough. Why waste your time complaining about it?

@cherieb91 It's PRETENTIOUS! People pretending they got it SO hard, and it's all about trying to pretend they have some emotional depth that others wish to have. All it is, is the same stuff you would talk to friends about, but the way they all speak it in a similar tone in that halting fashion, it's so over the top ridiculous. It's people with no actual talent looking for any way they can to stand up in front of others and express themselves. Meanwhile, if someone did this on a bus, who'd care?

It's like some new rap star trying to bring it home that he's got street cred, when it's all show and no real substance underneath. Obviously not all are like that, but many seem like they are trying to hard to make it as if their lives are something more than they are, be it good or bad.

@19nisey69 Now that you've elaborated I can totally see where you are coming from. And I agree, some people can try and make things out to be more than they are. I like to think of it as...some sort of creative defense. There have been times when telling a friend a story I may have stretched the truth to make myself look better.

I guess it's just up to us to decide on what we are willing to take at face value and what we are going to take in with a grain a salt.

I think respect and fear ARE compatible. I disagree with her, but she did a good job rhyming "compatible" with "bat and ball". But hmmm... are bats and balls really meant for each other?
