The USCG IS a military branch which PROTECTS our people at our borders AND includes deployable units in Afganistan right now. ASTs operate mainly at homeland waterways but are also deployed around the world in cases of natural disasters. USCG ASTs are just non combative. That doesn't mean the whole damn Coast Guard can therefore be discounted as a military branch.

@hean34 Do rescue swimmers jump into land and water to rescue a downed airmen, soldier etc. while bullets being shot at them? No in fact the pj's and seals have about the same aquatic training on top of that they have insane combat skills. Pj's are trained in SpecOps scuba, parachuting, combat, and they are certified paramedics. I have tremendous respect for these swimmers, however they are no where near on par with pj's. The Pj's are the ones who retrieve astronauts after a mission btw

We worked in Hawaii, Alaska and San Diego together and he was the guy that always voluntered for the bad cases. Going to LAPD was a waste because he was the best in the water.

you don't need to be a Citizen to join the U.S Military, you just need a green card a passport, a College or high school diploma and no criminal record.
