  • Hagelin's voice is very nice

  • I love this man, never knew he meditated but love his films. Not many films can really grab my unconscious and take it on the journeys that his films do. I meditate. Fantastic to see this video! Thank you for posting!

  • David Lynch should have accepted the invitation to work together with George Lucas, that's my opinion, because George Lucas reached out to him and that should be rewarded. George Lucas most likely wanted to learn something from David Lynch, he was inspired and wanted new ideas that were intriguing for his star wars films. It would have been an opportunity for David Lynch to create something together with someone whose films were so different from his. I would love to work with George Lucas. Ha.

  • Whales and dolphins have at least as much cognitive abilities as humans have, and I believe that they have already a natural state of enlightenment. Dr. Michio Kaku would refer their ways of living which includes full awareness of other beings' needs, to a type 1 civilization.

  • Please no hate. I want to share something. When I saw the animal hybrid baby in Eraserhead I cried. And when I watched David Lynch talk I felt again the feeling of being a "nobody". Now I made the emotional connection even more complete, I always knew cognitively that because I was often left alone as a baby crying for mommy, that this lead to me feeling like a nobody. With these film scenes from David Lynch and also the interviews I made the total emotional connection. I feel it in my guts.

  • girl at 18:00 wears glasses. I can tell without seeing her to how she is trying to sound nice. Not sure if people who rely on magnifying glass can see reality for what it is

  • OMG. Its really Great.

  • gtfoh 2500,,suck a d@#k 2500 for a special guru to give me a phrase that means nothing .....here ill be ur guru phrases;;;== the sun shines on a shadow.......the rivers never dry.......ummdalla ummdalla boom.....the creator is in the mirror

  • Eraserhead

  • Best Davd Lynch film? Vote now!!! Suggestions can be thumbed up!! Good idea no? ,,, my nomination is below.

  • Thanks!

  • *off

  • turn of you'r thoughts and it will come

  • John Hagelin is very good at explaining things.

  • It's beautiful thing.

  • communication not 100 percent with words. hi, I'm david.

  • Wow. I can seriously smell the pretentiousness in that audience. Oh yeah, it's Berkley, I forgot.

  • @tf2tonight lol. chill you resenful fool

  • Meditation is amazing and is probably one of the most important things that one can learn. However, TM is a buisness that is concerned with promoting themselves as the only right way and they will use all sorts of bullshit excuses as to why thousands of dollars are necessary.

Just ask yourself this: if they are so concerned with helping those in need, why make learning the technique so expensive that those in need (single parents, students etc) cant afford it?

  • @aristurtle1 Here I'll give you the lesson for free. Close you'r eyes. Relax body. Smoothly breathe in and out. Most importantly have absolutely NO THOUGHT whatsover. If you have trouble Try it with listening to Iso-chronic and or Binauraul tones. You can find some of them on this website. Just type in Meditation iso-tones.

  • Does electron have consciousness ? Molecular biology and molecular evolution Cosmology and cosmic evolution If Universe evolves can electron evolve too? Does evolution of life begin on electron’s level? Origin of life is a result of physical laws that govern Universe. Electron takes important part in this work Question Why does the simplest particle - electron have six formulas: E=h*f, e = +ah*c , e = -ah*c, +E=Mc^2, -E=Mc^2, E= ∞ ? Electron is not as simple as we think
  • Im impressed with some of the questions that are being asked by the audience. Much respect to David also. He is a very interesting man.

  • Thank you so much! It is wonderful!

  • You can read aloud (but not very loud) good poetry, or listen Tangerine Dream - ``Zeit`` in dark room until fall into sleep, or go visit some calm, good person - it would have effect like meditation, but you will also save lots of money that way.

  • Money is a symbol of what you agree that your discomfort is worth. If you don't believe that bliss is worth your discomfort, then go ahead and refer to this as a con. Meanwhile, reflect that you are likely addicted to comfort or at any rate, the ideas associated with comfort. If you remain as such, TM can of course have no use for you whatsoever, nor you for it. Keep your money and leave the rest of us to our Work.

  • @ShadwellTheSalesman "Money is a symbol of what you agree that your discomfort is worth." Funny, I thought money was an exchange medium for goods and services.

Many Buddhist teachers (zen masters, lay priests, non-believing practitioners, etc etc) will teach you to meditate for no fee or a nominal one. I strongly suggest to anyone who feels like dropping lots of money on their "spirituality" to do some comparison shopping, and also to think carefully about what they're really after.

  • @ChollieD

Nothing you have said is untrue, nor does it contradict the spirit in which my statement was made, thank you for sharing your observation. The perception the student holds of the teacher should be less important than the value of the effort made to understand what is taught. This can be monetary but may certainly also be otherwise, and is dependent upon many things including the state of the student, the teacher, the school, and the worlds or environments particular to each case.

  • Suck my Cuban cock. MONEY, this us ALL about money. Man, if you take Jesus away or if you put him to the side, then all becomes vanity. Meditate for what, what this people should be thinking about is making money, not how to meditate. If there us no God, then money takes position número UNO, after family and friends, of course. Well you know what I mean. This guy is a con-artista.

  • @cmpresents Lynch is a profoundly sincere man. Do not taint his name with such allegations.

  • @cmpresents

    shutup cunt

  • why do I get videos related to "Lunch"?

  • Too many "money signs" in this video.

  • That water looks delicious...

  • I think $2500 is outrageous. Why not $25 or $2.50? Any charge is not a good thing for something like this.

  • @vcoonrod Why must we pay for University? Should it not also be free? Well yes, we should help everyone have the good things which we know that we can have, but it's not like that, because the world is not like that. Maybe one day.

  • Like David says in his speech repeatedly TM is "money in the bank"

  • @vcoonrod

I paid 140pounds for it through an UK charity. I couldn't have afforded it otherwise. Looking back, if i had to pay $2500 for this amazing technique/skill and all that came with it i would have !!! TM is amazing, i am changed man with a totally different mind set. TM, the Joe Rogan Experience podcast both contributed in changing my paradigm ! :)

  • @vcoonrod The mere fact that he charges at all is a big red flag for me.

  • .. i wish i could de stress, just find it hard to chill...

  • hearing david lynch express the creative spirit brings me bliss!

  • you have to pay to learn his meditation skill? From mantras that could be any unknown source? oh my... You know theres good mantras and bad or even mean-less mantras right? =) Peace and love =)

  • @semsky1 squeeze a wanker :) take that mantra to "doing" LOL

  • @semsky1 Got any good mantras you want to share?

  • eyes the vision memory is the film.

  • THE FINGERS

  • that nigga lookin like he about to cry

  • He's so funny... he keeps saying 'It's sooo beautiful' It means he's totally seeing

    bliss

  • he has this thing where he opens his mouth and makes a tonguey sound

  • Yeaa... Pseudoscience!

  • i hope everyone AWAKENS soon.. Namaste...

  • I liked the brain dude's presentation.. it was calming and informative.

  • the greatest film-maker of all times

  • I <3 David Lynch!

  • and I came.

  • LOL, benefit for decades. Is that all?

  • this is dumb

  • @IneptWasSpirit You are a small, close-minded individual.

  • @theonlybandever1000 you stand corrected. I am a big, far-minded institution.

  • "I like, now, a thing called trail mix."

  • This guy is great, but it's funny how a lot of the questioners are just confused after he answers

  • That was so beautiful... The people who disliked this video should be burned at stake.

  • turn off

    tune out

    drop dead

    watch?v=FmgKwJhodZw

  • :-)

  • 28 people don't understand Twin Peaks.

  • money in da bank

  • i love David's liberal use of the word Beautiful

  • I like your movies but at the end I say "I don't get it". That's something we can all get behind.

  • I agree annoying typo syndrome. Meditation (connection with oneself) is the single most important thing in this world.

  • Comment removed

  • 26:57 - OK, David has now officially transformed into a televangelist!

  • @Atrum yes but he doesnt want your money, hes enthusiastic about helping you not helping himself, tried meditation ages ago, didnt get there, may try again, PS only got here looking for Lynch movie interview not about med

  • I suppose an independent film maker is obsessed with money, acquiring it for production of the next film. So, it's not unlike me worried about paying the rent. I don't like to think about it, and things that annoy and torment me are likely to distort my thoughts. Lynch is fascinated by the hidden darker forces of human experience so obsession with money is a natural subject of his thoughts. Lynch is a very hostile, angry, agitated soul, but he exorcises his demons through his art.

  • - AMAZING - you take a rather good film maker and ask him to philosophize about the Brain functions and he talks about Money Money Money - AMAZING -

  • I dont like his whole, money , money, money driven sentences.

  • fast forward to 0:07:03 to skip all the annoying introductions

  • @MrSweatyZombie

    thankyou

  • Wait is this another guy that is indroducing the expert? WTF no one cares. Just get to David Lynch.

  • Can't stand when the guy that introduces the expert takes 3 mins.

  • 'this field' is your subconscious. your ideas are coming from there. and meditation is invading your subconscious and dividing your ego(consciousness) and your subconscious with this 'mantra'. which are the names of hindu gods. these men are dangerous. your intuition is right. you aren't listening to it because your conscious mind is telling you they are smart. they are tricking you.

  • @ameriCAN3008 lynch is smarter thanm me and you combined

  • some guy called gregary asked a question he already knew the answer to, I am here to learn about this not to hear what gregary already knows. otherwise very good lecture.

  • it's just a beautiful beautiful beautiful beauty of beautiful beautificational beauty. lol <3 u David Lynch.

  • I think meditation's useful, it's certainly a good thing to do, but I still think there are a lot of bogus claims about the extent to which it can change your life. For instance David claims he has "never suffered" ever since he discovered TM. I find that difficult to believe. Although I admit it would still be good to have an "ocean sized understanding" of everything I encounter if that's possible, it's a pretty interesting idea.

  • @1982CFD It is exactly that, you find it hard to believe and therefore, this is true for you. You experience that which you believe. It is entirely up to you. The beauty and liberation comes from within you. I(t is a matter of letting go of the old programming, The mind is like a parachute, it works better when it is open. Shine on!

  • questioner: I usually don't get your movies

David Lynch : start meditating pal!

    love it!

  • 1:23:44

  • @Clovertone huh?

  • So true, UC berkeley is the future. Stanford........Harvard! who are they.

  • @TheJoe1902 Stanford and Havard are ranked #1 and #4 in the worldwide University ranking (look it up), and please try to end all of your questions with a question mark (?). It would assist with reader comprehension.

  • Eh.......isn't this just common sense?

  • 1:31:00 LOL! What did he start talking about??!

  • Our aim should always be To persuade those still aloof That our cry for peace Today more than ever Concerns them too ---- And for peace to prevail on earth, Like the stars in the heavens The water in the oceans The sands in the deserts The singing of the birds…--- We should make peace with nature first Plant trees instead of bricks Be kind to all living creatures End air and water pollution And stop producing so much waste
  • ODE TO PEACE Oh sacred energy of the universe Embedded in the rays of the sun, In the flutter of birds wings In the golden shine of a child’s glance, In the timeless art of cultures long gone We call upon you today That it is time For humankind to awaken To a bright new beginning Of Honesty, Sharing and Respect Please instill in us your wisdom Of everlasting fairness To proclaim out and loud That Justice and Peace Are universal laws
  • The wage slavery of immense humanity for the abstract process of profit taking for a few is the disconnections of ourselves from ourselves. The tyranny of world capitalism is a reality of perpetual war, poverty.exploitation, animal cruelty, enviornmental destructions and so on.Capitalism is a hostile, destructive enviornment for all living vibrations. We need to as a matter of urgency reclaim ourselves for a world of sharing in cooperation for our collective needs and wellbeing.

  • I have a tremendously deep sense of gratitude. I am overwhelmed beautifully. My fire of desire for Unity is intense. Thank-you from the very Best of Me!!!

  • I absolutely love the connection of meditation and the creative process. thank you, it is a process that b ypasses the mind, creativity arises in no mind.

  • So how much of this is just theological talking points from Transcendental Meditation, and how many of it is really about cognitive sciecne? I'm less interested in Dogma, more on data.

  • @jacobromu Did you not see Fred Travis talk about the brain during Transcendental Meditation? He is one of the top cognitive scientists in the world today and his talk was incredibly insightful.

  • From when is this specific lecture? 2005?

  • Meditation is good.

    and

There is nothing wrong with the fact, that humanity is devided into nations. Peace thru diversity.

  • Meditation instruction should be free, or at minimal cost.

Anything expensive, in a super-beautiful facility, is probably a con. If a meditation teacher is driving a luxury car, and you're paying them to learn, chances are good that you've been had.

  • @ChollieD

so... only if a meditation teacher is driving a toyota tercal, working in a shitty rundown facility, and your paying him 5 dollars an hour, then hes legitimate?

I guess i've been illogical to think that businesses with beautiful facilities and luxury car owners are businesses which are flourishing because they are creating wealth, in exchange for a highly desired product or service. i guess they are all con artists. you obviously know how success is derived. please tell me

  • @stickybelvedere Nice beat-down of your own strawman!

Religions aren't a business, nor should they be fee-for-service organizations. If they are, then let's take away their tax-exempt status now!

But even if you concede that it is a business, if your teaching is just to improve your mind by sitting quietly, then this teaching isn't scarce. In fact it's widely available. And actual monks who earn < $10K/yr/teacher in charitable donations exist in the US who would be happy to teach you.

  • its not unnatural for people to want to make a buck.aside from that, were in a time where the message of these techniques and teachings are more and more available to people.if you've noticed, the biggest"distributors"of these teachings are businesses which generate revenue to spread the message further.maybe instead of looking the negative, see how beautiful itis that in this time in history, with this population, businesses can reach people that monks cannot.Doesnt stop u from finding a monk tho

  • another scientology?

  • hm i love lynch but this was a bit too much of a direct marketing for me

  • Comment removed

  • I would have asked: "What the fuck happened in Inland Empire?"

  • staring at his hands can cause enlightenment.

  • I love that fucking trail mix.

  • wow did Lynch really have to say: "...or let's enjoy the silence.." These people are extremely lucky to be in the presence of a cinematic genious and it takes like a minute or so until someone finally works up the courage to ask him a question? wtf? If I was there, I'd be taking up all the time with all the questions I'd like to ask Lynch, just to pick his brain..

  • "It's a Beautifull thing" LOL

  • For such a far out guy, he sure is down to earth :)

  • David Lynch is absolutely insane, but I suppose that makes for great films.

  • It's not some magic trick it's called self reflection. we all have thoughts circling are mind constantly and many of us have issues we choose to avoid. reflecting allows us to clear our minds but please don't allow yourself to become delusional and childish.

  • Meditation is proven to have many benefits but i'm VERY skeptical of "TM." Sure you get all the great benefits as you would from another meditation (are meditations even different?) but you're charging people for lessons it's just ridiculous. People sometimes grab a hold of things they can't fully explain, that doesn't mean you should turn it into a cult. Eventhough i feel the intentions are good here, I feel people need to stop labeling things, putting rules, and see from others perspective.

  • Why did I watch this infomercial?

  • sounds like tom cruise promoting scientology.

  • Mr. Lynch, here's my answer to your "which oxygen mask to put on first in times of crisis" question.

I'll take option three, please. Multi-tasking. With one hand, put on your own oxygen mask, and with the other hand, hand an oxygen mask to your neighbor. After all, God gave us two hands.

That's okay, Mr. Lynch; you kind of have to be a Mom to understand the third way.

  • does anybody remember what Bill Hicks used to say?

  • spot on=also try ALAN MOORE on ART AND MAGIC...very interesting...

  • Dune was such a great film. Haters gonna hate, but damn, that film was amazing.

  • paying for meditation is BS.

VIPASSANA meditation is free to learn, and have centres all over the world. Also, you don't need a 'mantra', which some find limiting.

  • Everybody! watch "Kymatica!" It is litterally the deepest and the greatest video ever created! Everyone MUST see this video. It will change your life.

  • take a look at the tedx talk by Mark Waldman, his brainscan meditation research is amazing

  • thanks, good aport

  • I'm a 43 year old git from England, and I'm so so pleased that I can benefit from this, just as much as the people who were there at the time, studying at university. Thanks so much, to all involved in making this, and in putting it on you tube, so that we can all benefit from it.

    Thank you, very much.

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome your appreciation is a result of what David Lynch is talking about. We have each other to thank for this...But, especially, those that are brave enough to undertake it.

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome

    England power

  • Berkeley has contradictory sections, parts of the school (mainly the math &physics dep) reward intellectualism & have intellectuals doing research, making breakthroughs in understanding, yet other parts of the school scrape the bottom rungs of society to bring the most un-intelligent people of society, propelling them to a position where they receive praise for speaking pure rubbish & nonsense. Are any intelligent people (mainly mathematicians or physicists) watching this, do you enjoy this?

  • @slovakmath:

I can appreciate what you are saying, except that mathematicians and physicists are stuck ina world of numbers, and cant really appreciate anything which doesnt "add up", according to their strict doctrine (that everything is controleed by numbers).

However, if you sit alone ina quiet cool room, or go out in the sun, you feel different. The room may make you feel tranquil, and the sun, exited and full of energy.

He suggests this way to expand your mind- how do u KNOW hes wrong?

  • @slovakmath:

also, there are buddhist monks, who sit all day, all week, and for months or years on end, just meditating. Thousadns and thousands of them.

Are you suggesting they are all the "stupid" parts of humanity, because they don't crunch numbers, or invent bombs ?

It sounds as though YOU are part of the problem. Perhaps you should study something else, for a while, and not get too wraped up in mathematics - it is NOT a God, you know - its just a way of measuring things.

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome why are you quoting "stupid"? I never said they were stupid. Higher institutions of learning should include arts as well, but arts shouldn't include pseudo-science. Whats next: teaching flat earth, alchemy & astrology? Art has nothing to do with pseudo science. Let the Buddhists & Baptists (who scream about going to hell) et al all teach their cult beliefs, but schools shouldnt allow it on their grounds. You say I am part of a problem...what problem is that?

  • @slovakmath:

No, YOU are twisting the truth !

Just because they suggest that there is a spirit inside man, which can be blissful through the art of meditation does NOT mean they will be preaching about "flat earth" or "astrology". He NEVER said that, nor even mention it, or implied it... only YOU have suggested that.

So, for soemone who perports to want to speak only truth and facts, thats VERY missleading of you, don't you think ?

Also, Buddhists belive in re-incarnation, NOT hell.

    Tut !

  • @slovakmath:

    Con'td....

So, your arguiment seems to be based on YOUR belief in science (which is a belief in NO God, and that ONLY the "scientific method" is truth).

But YOUR beleief refuses to take into account other realities. You CANNOT explain even existence (the very start of everything), and yet you claim to know everything. Einstein says "energy cannot be created, only transformed", and yet science says"everything came from nothing, in a big bang".

Make your minds up, which is it ?

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome Yes I have a belief in science and the scientific method, but this belief is rather not faith based its observation based, as I have the benefit of physical or maths based evidence prior to deciding I'll believe in something. If you claim science cant explain origins of the cosmos, certainly the stories of Zues, God, Allah, the Great JooJoo of the mountain, and the creation myths surrounding these characters of literature, most definitely cant explain origin theories

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome Also...its an obvious, and very basic logical fallacy to make a claim that just because an idea cant explain every single concept in the universe, then that implies the idea is wrong. For an example, just because elementary geometry cant explain an infinite number of things (take one absurd example of it not being able to explain why I hate pork) isnt evidence for it being false. Science & people who actually work in the field never claimed to have the answers to everything

  • @slovakmath:

You seem to be arguing AGAINST yourself.

David Lynche obviously cant PROVE to you that he's not making up "spirituality" (because YOu refuse to even investigate it), so YOU claim its false. But you refuse to apply the same logic to science, because you are biased, and uneducated.

What im saying is, that the logic YOU just used, if turned against your argument and for the opposing argument, actually ENFORCES that which you insult as being "rubbish".

    DUUURR !

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndromeno... i am a post doc working as a mathematician... so indeed i have a HUGE bias. my bias happens to that i require evidence. either testable verifiable. debatable. and falsifiable in nature before i will consider something to be worth my beliefs. this can be taken into consideration for my previous and no the logic claim isnt applicable to my previous statements...i never once said: anything he says or the others say are wrong b/c they cant explain things

  • @slovakmath:

    1. You say you require EVIDENCE - and yet the only evidence you would accept, would have to be mathematical, which is impossible for this subject, since it deals INSIDE the mind, not on paper.

HOW DARE YOU deny the witness satatements of men MORE qualified than you ?

MILLIONS of Buddhist monks, over the millenia would not be dettered, simply because some arrogant "post doc" says that only mathematics counts !

U sound like a baby who wants to feel important, at the cost of others

  • Thanks for posting this fantastic life changing event!

  • I grew up hearing all kinds of stories about meditation and its effects and the enjoyments it brings. But i have never tried myself because In Tibet, most time, only monks and nuns practice it and it seems that it require certain knowledge in doing it. I am impressed how Lynch describes his experience in such a powerful way. I saw foreigners trained in Tibet in meditation gave speeches and some Tibetan monks but none could, even they had the knowledge, describe it so vividly than Lynch.

  • Close your eyes and wait...

    1st lesson, PATIENCE !

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome The most difficult, for most, is patience. True, very true. It's something that takes much effort and mindfulness.

  • He looks like Cooper actually. Weird.

  • erm, remember the wishes of the fishes who swam too far from the sea? Read about the cover-up of the existence of intelligent extra-terrestrial bananas at icrappoetry (.com)

  • you people that dont understand, will never be enlightened!

  • @mejt1958 What is the sound of one hand clapping!

  • @CosmicSisyphus it is the sound of one bird singing

  • lol biggest huckster ever....and hes speaking at Berkley? No way...what a fail.

  • Gay !

  • John Hagelin is great at describing the science behind it which I am interested in because I already know how to experience it.

  • It is so weird that these two guys John Hagelin and David Lynch were my favorite people to watch and listen too, and they happen to be friends and speaking together. I never knew that they even knew each other.

  • This is the reason why David Lynch is such an interesting guy. He is not only a genius, but he helps teach others how to reach the same level of creativity.

  • "or we can just enjoy the silence, it's kind of beautiful..." love it

  • He made only one (very) good film: Blue Velvet. We shall be grateful for this. But mot of these things he is saying now are bullshit

  • @claudio249347a "Bullshit"? How do you mean?

  • My God - what is wrong with this guy in the beginning ?

    Lobotomy maybe ?

  • 3rd dimension is just a representation of that unified field all chopped up with bits of it fitting in 3rd dimension.

  • $35 WOULD BE NICE.

  • he is really starting to look like henry from eraserhead

  • watch?v=eOmNLGzER8E

  • The price of it is really offputting.

I do Buddhist meditation and that is great. There's no mantra. Costs me about £5 per session.
