@boogiefever1985 It is festival hall it was one of JOK's return /comeback tours. A great singer there will be only one JOK often imitated never duplicated. 5/5
Ahhhhhhhh.... memories :-) In my teens (early 1960's) managed to get see JOK (The Wild One) performing in Centennial Hall, Adelaide, South Australia. Will always remember him taking off his black suit coat (which was lined with red) before singing "Shout". The audience went wild! :-)))
He is a legend, The best that existed and was the starting point for many Australian singers to get their start in the music industry. Long live the King of Australian Rock and Roll. Legend forever.. Love you JOK...
I first heard him live while staying in the Tellabuduggerim? QlD? caravan park as a little tacker - he was at a venue avbout a mile away and pumping it LOUD!!!.The next and best time was at Sunbury in 1972?. I was on the hill and was the only one I think in the whole place cheering when he came on - everyone was cheering part way into his set - a real showman who could pull and audience Godd Rock and Roll is GOOD rock and roll
I saw JOK live on two occasions living in rural West Australia - he was as good as we saw him on TV; and that was fantastic. He pioneered the way for many Aussie artists who followed him.
I remember we classed him the Elvis of Australia and when he performed on the same night with Bill Haley he was angry as everyone wanted Johnny to sing
I was at this concert at Festival Hall - an all-Australian artists affair to raise money for the Cancer Council. O'Keefe performed a dynamic set and tore the place apart. Del Juliana was on the same bill. O'Keefe always gave 110 percent every time he went on stage whether it was performing for a huge auditorium or a tent show - and he did the lot. He was a truly visceral performer and audiences could always sense how genuine and committed he was to rock'n'roll, and responded accordingly.
I gas the pleasure of seeing JOK twice in West Australia when I was a young bloke - he was absolutely dynamite on stage. His support of upcoming Australian artists made many careers.
JOK - the original Aussie Rock N Roll pioneer, & the Best Of All. In his little finger - He had more genuine talent as an entertainer than his current-day nephew, that Channel 7 110% 'up-himself' dick-head, Andrew O'Keefe has or will ever have. AOK is little more than a pathetic, hopeless, public drunk - with major personailty problems & dysfunctional defects.
@colindominy I dont ever reply to you tube comments , so you wont get a response You are way off course with that comment about AOK . it is you who is a fool sir . Dont believe everything you read in the gutter press AOK i alllll riiiigghhtt .
@peterm3964 : No .. I'm not off course, & not a fool, friend. AOK is a prize jerk. The 'gutter press' as you call it has absoIutely nothing to do with my viewpoint about the buffoon. I observe him in acton .. I hear him .. I can make analyses & conclusions based on the evidence before me. My analytical capacities are sound & intact. That's good enough for me. Maybe you're a relative of AOK ...
Hi flybreath- yes, an amazing bloke and tragic that he suffered bipolar disorder. It gave him boundless energy, but also screwed up a lot of things for him. He used to sing at our local pub and everyone loved him, not just as a singer, but as a person, too.
o'keef is the original singer, a friends mate who i met tonight told me, he is australian like o'keef. i thought lulu did the original but he proved me wrong! need to brush up on my pub quiz trivia!
His 'real' name was Johnny "SUPER TALENT" O' Keefe
