  • i wonder what brand hard drives were in there. they sure took a while to spin up... maybe hitachis? deathstars... i ;like WD myself.. never had a WDC fail on me

  • I solve both problems few months ago -so only summary -

    a) capacity - defective drive - solution was exchange Lacie drive

    b) Second part - red blinking - just wait to RAID mirror is created, it takes few hours. No word in manual about it ..

Lacie , when inserts 2big line to distribution , does not know answers for any simple questions .I have 10 years of experience with Lacie and in case of Tech Support I can say - lazy people without knowledge of basic IT things and own product line ...

  • @mibpowermac Hey there, I just discovered your video... and oddly I'm experiencing the same problem. At the time of discovery, it has the stock drive in... Then I've switched out the hard drives for some brand new OEM units and a week on, that silly left light is still blinking!! Could this possibly be a hardware issue?

  • From Lacie

"If you have reconfigured the drive for the SAFE100 (RAID1) setting, then this is perfectly normal. The LED on the back of the unit for one of the drives will flash in this manner while the unit builds the RAID set.

This process can take between 10-12 hours on a drive this size.

Make certain to leave the drive on continuously until this process completes. If the unit is powered off before this finishes, then the rebuild will have to start over from the beginning."

  • @yay4furryanimals Interesting... but what if the drive is set to "Fast" or "BIG" and the drive still blinks? There's nothing in their stupid manual about it. :(

  • Interesting, I just got this drive, same exact behavior. However, I tried copying a file to it. Then I threw it into big mode, and that file was actually on both drives.

    1.5TB 2big dual

    vista x64

  • Oh my God! Are you guys serious? Did anyone READ the DIRECTIONS!!!?????

This drive is factory formatted in HFS FOR MACINTOSH!

If you are using a PC you MUST reformat the discs!

Also, YOU CANNOT just change the RAID array on the back and expect it to perform as set! YOU MUST reformat each time you change the RAID format switch setting! AND in doing so you will erase any data on the discs!

    Are you guys for real?

  • I agree, Lacie are for the msot part Mac Mac Mac..

(from the vid, prob damaged the boots by now / Lol ) .. ? peace

  • Some versions of this come formatted as NTFS. I myself have the same blinking lights and Raid 1 will NOT work. Probably going to RMA it.

  • first forgot to mention in raid 0 no matter how big the drives eg 2 500gig drives will only show 500gig never 1tb not sure what size drives you have

  • If u create a raid 0 array out of 2x500gb you will have one big 1tb array.

    I'm sure you ment raid1...

  • looks to me like the esata port on th encloseure is empt do you have an esata cable connected to the enclosure sorry for the dumb ? but i did not see an esata cable

  • Same problem here... any solution for this?

    Thanks for the video !

  • Hi Mibpowermac, i've the same problem here with two new "2big dual" in fast100. Startup.. some seconds and then the left drive blink red.

Have you resolved? or it's normal??

    byee

  • 2 TB drive ( tested 2 pcs of same reference )

in raid 0 - 931GB, but LED blinks red , LED blinks still -without HDD activity on drive

    in jbod = 2x 931GB, correct

    in fast , big ... capacity only 1.25TB , not 1.8TB

  • 2TB drive

    in RAID 0 : error LED , 1x 931GB

    in JBOD 2x 931 GB

    in stripe , big etc .. capacity 1.25TB only ( not 1.8TB )
