this reminds me of my mrs. Jones, I was 23, she was 47, but it didn't seem to matter because it was just Me and Mrs. Jones.... hahhaha We Had our thing going on!!!
@guitarslinger808 Iv'e been researching this for an hour, and have been unable to tie it down, but I found a biography page on Raymond Earl (a Philadelphia International session player) where it says he learned how to play by slowing down Motown records, and this playing sounds VERY Jamerson to me.
By far the best version of this song is the one done on the PBS special in 2009 from the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. I had never heard that singer before (Buddy Sickle?!) but he was solid and so was the amazing orchestra with strings behind him in a truly outstanding arrangement.
I feel sorry for Mr Jones, don't you? He would have invested a lot in that relationship - kids, they probably bought a house together. I hope the sex was worth it.
Heard this Friday while driving. Had a flashback to this being that first slow drag (not slow dance mind you) dance with a boy taller than me...lol. Sang that song Mr. Paul!
This is something I don't see often in live perfomances on mainstream T.V. The artists changing it up a little. Not afraid to do something out of routine. So relient on the studio's.
This is the shizniz right here! (Translation: It sounds great!)

The music arrangement of the song on this stage is even better than the original, in its tempo and in orchestrations !!
It's just incredibly beautiful, melting down all the souls of us listeners.
