  • Will be playing this song on friday night for the closing cerimonies for the National Cadet Biathalon competition, i play 1st trombone, and this is my favourite song to play, even though it murders my chops, great sound quality

  • Having trawled YouTube for the 'Highland Cathedral' melody, no-one does it better than the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment - What a shame they have since been disbanded! Where would I get an Irish Saffron kilt? :-(

  • @MrGaggymott the royal irish have not been disbanded ..god forbid the day

  • Slainte

  • Красиво!!!

  • Beautiful !

  • First time I remember hearing this was at a Met Police passing out ceremony at Hendon about 11 years ago. Loved it ever since.

  • @surreyboy84 Shame you're a pig.

  • @Deepred67 Shame you're wrong.

  • beutiful

  • So good, no words.

  • Amazing piece of music, Scottish anthem, written by Germans, played beautifully by the Irish. Listen to this over and over again.

  • Trés belle interprétation musicale !

    very nice music performance !

  • so proud 2 have Irish blood in me xx

  • oh my god.... i love it.... i can't hear it loud enough!

  • this tune was played at my fathers funeral, still get sentimental when i hear it.

  • There are actually a high % of Irish people from all over Ireland north and south that serve with the Royal Irish, they wear a shamrock on their Uniform, and remember RaydarUK,that a large amount of people from the six counties class themselves as Irish......great tune.....ALBA IS EIRE....

  • @piper1903

Let's be honest. "Eire" is a corrupt state ran by the Vatican, the greatest Irishmen were Protestant Anglo-Irish and Ulster-Scots.

  • Fantastisch...

  • Actually, this tune was written by a German, but of course it refers to Scotland. The band in this video aren't Irish, they are Northern Irish and would probably identify with the Ulster Scots background, meaning they are from Ulster and of historic Scottish descent. This tune was used by the Ulster Defence Regiment, the Royal Irish Regiment and the Royal Ulster Constabulary. Remember Northern Ireland is part of Britain! No-one is claiming this to be an Irish tune.

  • Ehm isnt this a Scottish song and people are saying come on Ireland? Dont rage at me but im not understanding this, i know its irish people that are playing this though

  • @XxBigFatazXx "Ehm isnt this a Scottish song" It has become popular in Scotland but no it isn't Scottish. It was written by two Germans.

  • For my friend Victor died 18th of June 2007. Died as a soldier

  • I picture myself walking in Glencoe and hearing the piper by the side of the road playing this with such reverance. My heart is happy

  • Majestic!!!!!!!!

  • Da bekomm ich sogar bei vierzig Grad Aussentempertur noch Gänsehaut....wunderschön....

  • Long live the Republic of Niger!!

  • I love it

  • Great long live the UDR

  • @telboyirish inniskilling

  • Beautiful music, what ever type of instruments are being used!

"Fight nicely, children", and please watch your language! We all know some people cannot speak without using foul language, but must you type it, too? Shows your total ignorance! Grow up have some respect for others!

The music is so beatiful that I'm thinking of using it as a prelude when the Lutheran congregation I serve as Music Director celebrates its 125 anniversary in 2012. Should uplift all who hear it!

  • This kinda reminds me off all the ones that are fighting at the minute and putting their lives on the line just for us to live. SALUTE the soldiers serving their country now.

  • OMFG, Why is there Irish people dressed in Scottish national attire, playing a Scottish song on a Scottish instrument, and the Highlands are IN Scotland not Ireland, the Highlands never had anything to do with Ireland at all, the uploader either has bad spelling issues or is a plain retard.

  • @segano1

Ahem, the Scots and Irish are the same...

Do a bit of research on the Celtic people - You'll be wiser for it.

  • @BuckworthJackson Ahem Ahem, no they're not.

Scots = Caledonian Picts of ancient Scotland

Irish = Celt Gael invaders from Iberia (Now Modern Spain)

"Celtic" = Made up modern word first used by an English linguist in the mid 1800's to describe pre-Roman barbarian tribes, they were not native.

  • @BuckworthJackson Scots are therefore not Irish and Irish are not Scots, simples!

Incidently, the "Irish" were only given that name in the 1600's by pope Leo X.

Modern Irish culture is a modern 1900's invention based on Scotland's traditional national culture, true Irish culture has been lost to the mists of time and never since been revived artificially, Unlike the Gaelic (Irish ver pronounced "GAYLICK") language post independence.

  • @segano1 They are not in Scottish national attire you should have a closer look. They are wearing Corbeens an Irish beret not a Scotts feather bonnett. They are also wearing a irish saffron kilt not a Scottish tartan and there badge is the Irish Harp not a Scottish thistle. Your ignorance is beyond words

Your ignorance is beyond words. They are also playing the Irish war pipes not the highland pipes.

  • @mac6460 I am in total agreement with you, although the more correct spelling of Corbeen is Caubeen? and yes the major difference between the Scottish and Irish pipe is the Highland chanter is always open at the end and thus the melody is continuous. The Irish chanter operates principally in a closed fashion, making it possible to stop the sound, often imperceptibly. This allows for a vastly different fingering technique which can produce a wide variety of melodic and ornamental effects

  • @mac6460 The instrument being played here is the Great Highland Bagpipe which is a Scottish instrument, there are no longer any Irish war pipes in existence. Saffron Kilts, are a British Army invention bequethed to the irish regiments by Queen Victoria and based on the Kilted Highland regiments.

  • @pondlife14

Wrong,The Uileann pipes are around alot longer than the bagpipes and where brought to Scotland by the Irish.

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG. MY DAD LOVED BAGPIPES. BROUGHT TEAR TO HIS EYES TOO.

  • We play this song in the cadets as a corp of drums flutes can't beat the sound of pipes though wish i could learn them x

  • Nothing like a good bagpipe song to stir the Highland blood of the Scots. Can almost feel the history and the charge of the Highlanders towards the Brits. Alba gu brath.

  • this was my march off song in 1988 St.Patricks barracks Ballymena hey!!!

  • Proud to be an Ulsterman .............. 400 years and undefeated

From the Scottish Borders to Ulster and the American frontier We are the toughest people the world has ever met !!

    Scottish reviers we ride again

  • No Surrender!

  • This was my march off song back in 1988 at Cambrai barracks in catterrick, Never forget it...

  • @icmeler1961 im thinking of joining cause i cant join the irish defence forces because our economy is dirt. im just wondering lad, is there much descrimination and bullying against lads from the south!?!?

  • @IRELANDISMYCOUNTRY None iam an Ulster protestant, one of the best friends i ever had was from Waterford.

  • And also...why are we playing it on the bagpipes...shouldn't it be on the uilleann pipes? I mean, yeah, the bagpipes are scottish, but if it's being played by us irishmen, it should probably be done on our pipes.

  • I have to say that while, yes, I am happy that the Irish regiment played this. It's just, being irish, and this being a scottish tune, just wondering why we played it. I know anyone from anywhere can play anything, just wondering.

  • @Irishborne

Its a german tune, but your right anyone can play it and these guy do it proudly

  • superbe interpretation cela donne le frisson

  • i had the great honour of serving with this fine regiment..THE ROYAL IRISH RANGERS....now THE ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT

  • Faugh a Ballagh

  • like other people have said, goose bumps and the occasional tear...

  • I would like to say as a respectful American with a heritage of Polish descent, not Scottish, this is a very wonderful, elegant and heartwarming song!

  • Hi. I wonder does anyone know where can I get the musical of to the old programme 'Road To Wembley', where an instumental big band piece showcasing glorious wembley and the cup-ties. The last time I seen and heard was maybe 20 yeasr ago. Then it was bobby moore as the presenter. The tune is still fresh and audible in my heart. It's amazing tune and composition.

    Any help truly appreciated.

  • ok...i am german...but this song is beautiful...

and i get even more proud, when i think about, that i can play the bagpipes too...sometimes i wish i was born in the uk or in ireland, just for the culture, nature and history...

    Bobby...

  • what happend to the pipe majors high a in the solo part at the beginning? it sounds gross!

  • Remember the fallen, forgotten sons ,forgotten brothers we will remember them, the sacrifice will not be or shall be FORGOTTEN

  • I love it too! ...but it was written by two germans!

  • @TheChiefEngineer

hahaha very true. remember these composers aas amazing composers, and not by their race... remember that most of the Germans in germany didnt know what was going on during Hitlers tyranny. and it was because of the failures of the weimar republic that led to it

  • @SamuelChung94 Indeed, however, as Scotsman, I was just pointing out that this amazing song which everyone has associated with Scotland, was actually written by two Germans, and that's wonderful. To love another country so much as to write such a piece as this is truly inspirational, and I think certain people could learn a thing or two from knowing that fact.

  • @TheChiefEngineer HAHA true! lol i thought you said it was bad cuz it was written by two Germans. LOL my bad... ): but yeh people should also remember those that wrote the song. amazing piece of composition eh?

  • amazing music

  • Thoght Marschmusik was ours, but that song made me shiver, great music,Danke aus Deutschland!

  • stimme dir zu das das stück verdammt gut ist aber es ist nicht irisch oder schottisch. Highland Cathedral wurde von zwei Deutschen komponiert :P

this song was composed by two germans

    amazing arrangement!!

  • @narutosama91 Ja, aber es wurde zu einem schottischen, und zwar hochländischen, Thema komponiert. Es ist heutzutage sehr populär under den Schotten und Nordiren.^^

  • @narutosama91 Correct, and they wouldn't be the first german ones who composed a national anthem for a foreign country. Who wrote the anthem for Great Britain? Joseph Haydn.

  • beautiful!

  • incredible! just amazing....I just love that tune soo much!

  • Dont know why, but Highland Cathedral played on the pipes always brings a tear to my eye.. A really moving piece of music, thanks for sharing.

  • @skypilot87uk i know the reason why it hits you when your not looking a bit like a good weepy film or the birth of a child on tv haha oh and from now untill the end of days we are now kwown as crying budys never thought i would get one of those but there you go haha see you soon
