  • "THE Adrian Cronauer? From Dead Poets Society?" rofl. Accuracy in movies or not, THIS guy is damn funny. One of the greatest in radio history. And be honest. We won't have 100% accurate movies. We want good and heart touching movies. Thanks for posting, thanks Adrian, thanks Robin.

  • If I could only get him to do a Goooooood Morning Radio Vietnam for the station or ANYTHING! lol I love this guy and a huge inspiration for my station, which turns 7 years old in 10 days (can't believe we've made it that long!). :)

  • Had no idea.

  • Its nice to know he's not bothered by the lack of accuracy in the movie. I doubt the movie would have been very good otherwise. Besides, Armed Forces Radio and Television is meant for morale. No combat vet needs the news to tell him how depressing and brutal the realities of war are.

  • @volumecorps Most true stories are like that and I think Adrian is intelligent enough to know that and, even with the changes to events, it still brought AFVN to light, gave a softer side, and more humanized feeling, than other movies of the 80's. I wish he had more applause, I loved every bit of it. :) My favorite was "I was not teaching because I was trying to meet this particularly beautiful Vietnamese girl, at least not one particular beautiful Vietnamese girl". :)

  • i think adrian was a person of his time. the troops needed some home comforts and he gave them over the air waves. he seems to have got older (obviously) and stuffier. maybe he needs the live radio thing. he was not funny in this interview, basically i think he struggled. sorry!

  • this was wonderful. Thank you so much for posting this. It's so great!

  • Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood morning Vietnam!!! :P

  • I was in Vietnam in 65/66 and listened to Adrian Cronauer during the AM wake up call. He made life more interesting. I met Robin Williams in the 80s when I was on duty as a reserve policeman. He was just like AC described him.Check out RW as the American flag.

  • he's very perceptive. his analysis of Robin Williams is very true if you watch anything about him interviews and such, he keeps you at arms length for the most part, because as a kid he was a very lonely kid, had trouble making friends. He's very slow to put that guard of funnyman down. So he does do a routine as he talks to you.

  • Jeeezzz....

I'm not an American, not even a native english speaker, so it's a new thing for me - it so happened I just watched the film. Great movie btw. Loved it.

After I watched it I googled the name "Adrian Cronauer" - since that was RW's character - and came up with this youtube clip. 'was kind of surprised there was an actual living person behind the character but... the real guy kind of seems too much obsessed with his former fame... boring ;)

  • @piker78 i agree.

  • Nope, he doesnt look like Robin Williams, haha

  • THEEEE Adrian Cronauer? From Dead Poets Society? rofl

  • That was funny.

  • Wow...I'm disappointed now! Oh well... thank you for your service to our country! In my books "that alone" made you a better DJ than Robin Williams!

  • Have you seen the film!? It's clearly anti-war! I love that he was able to inspire people, that's a fine thing, but it has nothing to do with 'service to country' or any of that shit! Wars need to stop, fuck blind patriotism! The film is touching, and clearly shows the bullshit that goes on behind the scenes during wars. People trying to cover the truth up, and being deceitful so that everyone believes they're doing the right thing.

If you didn't get that part, go back and watch it again!

  • @dan892k7 Dude, nobody needed to be told that. It was common sense. If the government uses the words "can not readily identify," "unofficially," or "did not happen" in reference to war, it's happening.

  • I'm afraid you're wrong, some people really are Stupid enough that they don't understand simple things like that. It's obvious that you do, but some people need to be spoon fed information their whole lives. It's sad, but true.

    Dan

  • @dan892k7 So, am I wrong or right? I'm getting mixed signals from this statement.

  • There are no mixed signals, read it again.

  • @Thief8Bit No, sometimes it means it's not happening. If you ask if aliens from Venus conduced the ARCLIGHT strikes, you'll be told it "did not happen."

    Because it didn't.

  • @dan892k7 Wait, you're saying a film, that the guy it's based on says is 90% bullshit, "Clearly shows" what happened?

You voted for 0bama, didn't you?

  • @mzmadmike The character and the lead story may be fictionalised but the actual horrors of war, and the reality of the lives behind these situations is portrayed rather well I thought. But I guess you're far more interested in one-sided war stories such as that told in movies like 'Pearl Harbour', and all the other gung-ho American war films.

And no, not everyone on Earth is American, I am one of those people, and therefore I didn't vote for Obama ;-). I voted David Cameron if you must know.

  • Ditto, nice post and thanks.

  • This guy is awesome

  • The last bit is like something from a Stand-up routine xD

  • That last part was actually really funny! Hilarious even!

  • ditto on rhmetal's comment. i always kinda wondered what the real person thought of the movie...it's kinda like watching the real Patch Adams on the behind the scenes of the dvd for the movie.

  • This is very interesting. Thanks for posting it.
