Why so many fucking campanellas posted by him on this site? it's not that good, and not interesting at all. Kissin is a bit more interesting, but even he is not worth much...
I identify emotion when ther´s emotion to identify. In these recording he plays with certain musicality and that´s all. I´m not comparing, but I feel something special when I listen to Rachmaninov, Friedman or Horowitz. I´m not saying Yundi Li is a bad pianist, he is bad artist.
Can you elaborate? I mean, how do you identify emotion? The slows and fasts of the piece? The softness and loudness? Heck, the face expressions? And if you say he's a bad artist, is it because he's missing that something "SPECIAL" in his performance?
Not being rude here, but I just want to know your side of critisizms.
I can´t explain it well.Maybe this"something special"is a fact of creation and a deep kowledge of the meaning of the piece.About"La Campanella",it requires a virtuosity of the emotion, not of the fingers. When I listen to Yundi Li,I listen a talented pupil who does very well what his teacher says.I´m searching for something sensational, maybe is my fault.
Pag/Liszt:They were the greatest virtuosi, they made the audiences cry.Yundi makes me yawn. That´s what he gives me.
Well, everything Thelster mentioned is part of the written music, not the artist. If the score shows "slows and fasts" or "softness and loudness" in a particular segment, that is what is expected. If you play simply by the score, however, you're no better than a machine. Every time the camera rolls by Li's face it looks like he has just snorted a pint of meth. I've seen chinese pianists better than this and yet 10 years younger; they just don't know where to look for their virtuoso.
I just don't see your point there. When you say "they" don't know where to look for their virtuoso, who are you refering to? The judges of Chopin Concours?
I've been crazy about this song and have watched some other famous pianists playing it, but nobody even seemed to approach Yundi's level of interpretation. Well, if you know anybody who could play this piece better than this, please tell us so that we could enjoy what you call virtuoso.
I was refering to Paganini and Liszt, but my comment was too long, so I had to abreviate.
I don´t know the "perfect" Campanella, but I can remember a good live recording of Cziffra and the old one of Busoni. But I recomend to listen to pianists like Ignaz Friedman, Rachmaninov or Cortot to understand what I´m talking about.
That's exactly how I feel about artistry. In that case, listen to Paganini/Liszt/Busoni/Friedman's version (played by Friedman himself). That one shows indeed the true expression that is needed in this piece. What I totally miss in Yundi Li's performance is "el diabolo". When we think of Paganini, but certainly about Liszt, there has to be a very diabolical element in la Campanella, to give us the chills like Liszt and Paganini did in their days. Sir Li, where is it?? This sounds like a lullaby!
Sorry but I don't see your point there. When you say "they" don't know where to look for their virtuoso, whom are you refering to? The judges of the Chopin Concours?

Yes, he did make a mistake. The piece as a whole, however, is played very musically, so doncha think a little credit should be given in regards to that instead of one big negative?
Doncha think a professional pianist who plays 8 hours a day and gets paid large sums of money needs higher standards than this? Besides the fact that he's (arguably) the best China has to offer, once professional pianists complete studying a particular song they should be able (at least) to play it flawlessly, blindfolded. There's no point to playing a piece "musically" (because it's all undoubtedly music)if you blunder. It's just like baking a wonderful cake and shitting on the top.
having the same length and weight. The ultmate goal of a pianist is to "make music", not just pressing the keys. We can program a piano to play any piece
100% accurately. But then what is the point of playing it? Hope people understand a perfect technician does not equal a creative musician.
I must say This piece is hard very hard. I have been working on it for 2 weeks and only got onto the 3rd page its very difficult to play. also. i like Both interpretations of this one and Kissin. but Kissin makes heaps of mistakes while Yundi Li makes one that i can notice. but i do like both interpretations.
radurak has no musical understanding inside of him >.<
WTF R U SAYING.. this person is brilliant.. he feels the music like no one else.. he has his own interpretation, besides.. his body and facial expression is moving accordingly to the music..
he played it greatly!amazing speed..amazing technique..and great interpretation! even though he pressed wrongly by incident at the ending animato part, but who doesnt make mistakes?it still sound so perfect overall..
Very good, sort of playingly and yet very soft, with lots of emotions. 5/5

Oh what are you talking about? Does he deserve these kinds of audience? It was a great performance for being at the "Young Musicians" category.
All I see from your comments are the lack of identifying emotion.

The biased views based on race, gender, nationality,
and religion are unacceptable, not here, not anywhere
in America, and should not be tolerated anywhere in the world. Let's keep piano in piano.

Yundi is a world class musician, not just a
technician. As a musician, he makes music out of
those notes. Kissin plays like a well-programmed
machine. The notes under Kissin were shortened,
having the same length and weight. The ultmate goal of a pianist is to "make music", not just pressing the keys. We can program a piano to play any piece
100% accurately. But then what is the point of playing it? Hope people understand a perfect technician does not equal a creative musician.
