The two are very powerful, but with four-strokes you don't have to change speeds every 6 secondes to have power, that is the big difference ! , you can stay on the same speed a longer time without loose power. For the question of which is faster in straight line, I thing the 450 4-s is faster than a 250 2-s, but for the acceleration tha's approximatly the same thing, sorry for the bad english, I speak french !

I owned a 450R before my X, and I can tell you it depends on what you call 'fast.'

The R is designed specifically for motocross tracks and has a closer ratio transmission, and will accelerate faster/harder; it's also SLIGHTLY lighter...but at the 450 level, not enough to make a significant difference in speed.

The X was designed for Enduro (and wide open deserts) and has a wider ratio which means faster top speeds.

Not really. It can actually help.

I raced the R for a while, and the lightness is nice in the air when you're moving the bike around. On the other hand, the slightly heavy X is more stable when you're really bombing like at the dunes or the desert - the R tends to hop around a bit much in those settings.

because 450 4strokes have much more top end than a 2 stroke. 2 strokes are engineered for a circuit track to have the fastest acceleration. 2 strokes will get to their max speed fastest but 4 strokes will have a higher top speed
