Furthermore, RTE's Eurovision selection panel should have been rounded up and shot for allowing a respected traditional band to face the mockery of playing to a backing track. It was an insult to our musical heritage and instruments.
Interesting point about Dervish, the Albanian telephone vote failed and that's why the jury was used. They gave 7 points (the only score on the night). I have no doubt that the sean-nos sound would be appreciated in the Balkans and the East of Europe whose countries' folk songs share a similar vein. Especially now that the juries' votes have returned permanently. Dervish's huge mistake was to make Cathy Jordan sing in English. Btw Waters later revealed the song is about the Prague Spring of 1968

In the current Eurovision format, it was never going to succeed. However its interesting to note that Albania, the only country with a jury system, gave Ireland its only points. Had the jury system been in place, with people who actually could judge a decent song, it could have done very well
Just to make a point that the Irish people did not choose Dervish. It was council chosen by the government to pick the least expensive group that auditioned basically. Even U2 offered to prevent Dervish from entering! I'm Irish - the singer is shit. The Traditional group are really good but that sow in the dish clothes is atrocious. Eurovision 2007 was a complete embarassment for Ireland. I really want to clarify that the Irish people did not pick them!

Gotta agree with menapia1. With this entry, ireland werent even good enough to come in last place but i think dustin deserves to win it this year, well just forgive and (thankfully) forget dervish!

In the current Eurovision format, it was never going to succeed. However its interesting to note that Albania, the only country with a jury system, gave Ireland its only points. Had the jury system been in place, with people who actually could judge a decent song, it could have done very well

Just to make a point that the Irish people did not choose Dervish. It was council chosen by the government to pick the least expensive group that auditioned basically. Even U2 offered to prevent Dervish from entering! I'm Irish - the singer is shit. The Traditional group are really good but that sow in the dish clothes is atrocious. Eurovision 2007 was a complete embarassment for Ireland. I really want to clarify that the Irish people did not pick them!
