  • really mind blowing excellent song. how did he know how dark the night was if he was blind? just insane thinkin about that

  • This just blows my mind. This is definately the most meaningful song they put in that record.

  • they should send weed and rock

  • this is all based on the asumption that aliens have gramophone record players?

  • @Daavoid The aliens who detect the Voyager will probably need to have a space shuttle in order to go out into space and catch it, so if they are that smart then they should easily be able to make a record player based on the instructions that shipped with the record :) It's not like the Voyager would just collide with a planet and land in a village of neanderthal-like aliens.

  • @Daavoid they also sent a cartridge and i think the idea was that it would be "intercepted" by a technologically advanced lifeform

  • aliens love willie!

its great ET can hear all the different flavors of our species.

  • They made an oustanding choice including this humble, yet profound, tune.

  • Sadly Mr. Johnson died penniless wrapped in newspapper in the remains of his burned out house, but his music just passed into deep space where he shall live forever.

  • for some reason the image of voyager drifting in space suits the mood of the song

  • Great they put this out the space with Voyager, together with Johnny B. Goode. Many thank's to Carl Sagan :-)

  • Martin Scorsese presents...

    THE SOUL OF A MAN,

    a film by Wim Wenders.

    +the other 6.

  • As explained on "West Wing" - Blind Willie Johnson was blinded at 7 when his stepmother threw lye in his face because his father beat her for sleeping with another man. Blind Willie died bundled in wet newspapers in the ruins of his burned down house. His song 'Dark was the Night, Cold Was the Ground' was on board Voyager I which was the first man-made object to leave our Solar System.

  • what are our extraterrestrial neighbours to think of blind willie??

  • @loknloll a profound note of deep feeling and tone. if they arent so advanced they dont feel such things as we do.

  • I love this song. So eerie
