Sorry guys got that wrong entirely researched Mark and found out a lot about his ability, not listening to media anymore, good to see Aussies supporting him the only winner of a Grand Prix since Alan Jones.
It looks like Kovalainen braked 100 meters before the corner. And Webber said kovalainen braked 80m earlier than webber on lap before that crash so Webber can brake from 300 km/h to 90 km/h in 20 meters LOL
its amazing how strong f1 cars are, the basic monnequok or whatever its called was bascially intact it was just the wings and wheels that took the damage
@mini4dudo I agree. It wasn't really either's fault. Henki had a different braking pattern than Webber for that curve and Webber just wasn't expecting that defensive style of driving, especially from a Lotus.
I was watching this race and it wasn't a great start for him so i was not paying the most attention then i saw this i was like HolyShitBalls! Quite amazing that he just walked away straight afterwards without even a scratch
I missed this in the race, and turned it on about halfway through and I saw Mark was out. They were on about some accident and I wanted to see it. then when forum came on they showed it and I was just screaming
"Fucking Hell!" at the screen! I was amazed and glad that Mark was perfectly OK.
I Genuilly thought he might of been Dead, But then he just got straight out of his Car! But After the Vettel crash, I think Webber out of the Drivers Championship, And with Hamilton and Button consistantly in the Top 3 Mclaren should win the Constructors
@indianajoe14 Nah he's not out yet, he's done very well this season and I expect him to come back somewhat, don't know if he has it in him to win it though. as a fan I hope he does though!
Weber getting his touch back. Getting back to his roots. He used to crash out all the time. His form has dipped as of late, which explains his finishes without a scratch ... but this crash he's getting that touch back, back the way he used to do it every race.
If you watch carefully Mark gets over corrective with He`s overtake, jinx to the left before going right but too late as KOV is slowing for the braking zone while preparing to let WEB get through.
lmao @ Brundle's "woaahhh". As Webbo was quoted 'it takes two to tango', so he agreed he was partially at fault. Its one thing to defend, but pick your braking point Heikki! lol as well @ Heikki giving the thumbs up to the camera before realising its prolly not the best time to do that ...
@robbotheone - yes he started 2nd which is on the green side of the track (ie the dirty side) so got a very poor start, fell down to 9th by the time it all settled down then had trouble getting past hulkenberg as its almost impossible to pass on this track with similar paced cars. The team called him in to do his tyre change early and to get him into clean air which put him behind the lotus. The lotus is not even in the same class as the red bull and should not have tried to defend against mark.
@robbotheone - no need to get your knickers in a knot mate. Seemed like you were asking a question ie 'didn't he start in 2 nd position and ended up behind a lotus on lap 10'.
I jst goes to show how safe these modern F1 cars are. That was coming off the back straight of the circuit at over 200 mph, and he was barely hurt after that accident!. I can tell u one thing, it was kind of De Ja Vu for Webber. Cuz, he was involved in an incident like that on the pace lap of the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving one of the Mercedes CLRs. all and all...DAMN!
the fia is looking to bridge the gap next season between the fastest and slowest car, i think it stands aroung the 8kmp/h mark at the moment, they are also looking at adjustable rear wings,
David Coulthard was an absolute disgrace trying to defend Webber and blame it on Kovy. I thought the BBC was ment to be unbiased? Clearly he wasn't, with his Red Bull links.
thank goodness the car was upside down when he hit that DHL sign.....cause if it had hit him on the helmet.........game over. Webber was closing on a much slower car, the slower car should be out of the way, unfortunately, to me it appeared they danced, left then right, following each other.....with the pace the Red Bull had over the other car, inevitable coming together......glad everyone is ok.
Webber's fault. Kovalinen was off the racing line while Webber was slipstreaming Kovalinen. Webber should have moved to the left side of the track sooner in preparation for the upcoming chicane.
@ls1jjones No. Kovalainen braked a good 80 metres before Webber's braking point, he was braking later than that on previous laps so he had no need to brake so early.
@griffin911 Kovy is not to blame, even Webber has said that. Its just a racing incident! Kovy is defending his position, hes braking where he feels he needs to and its just earlier than where Webber would of braked, so they came together. Theres nobody to blame!
@griffin911 I don't believe theres any telemetry that shows Kovalinen was braking - he had just let off the throttle. Rule #1 to being lapped is to not make any sudden movements. Fortunately Kovalinen was off the racing line so he only needed to watch Webber pass in his mirrors. Webber decided to run up the back of Kovalinen off the racing line, Kovalinen realized Webber seemed to want to the right of him and made a move accordingly. I like Webber but this was a drving error after a poor start.
@ls1jjones i believe it was kovalinens fault, purely because he came out and said he was defending his position, now why would a car 4seconds off race lap pace and a car thet gets knocked out of Q1 nearly ever race qualifing try and defend a much faster car, webber qualified second, where as kovalinen qualified 20th, kovalinens car fits into the B class category where as webbers is in the A class, thankfully no one was injured,
@MrAussiebogan - I agree with everything except technically it was not Kovalainens fault (just bad judgement), it was for race position and he had the right to defend (which he said he was doing), But he really should have known better than to defend against a class A car who was as you said 4 seconds quicker per lap.
And to ls1jjones, Kovalainen was defending for race position he said after the crash that he was defending against Mark, not Marks fault at all.
@MrVideoRater1 Heikki did nothing wrong, hes allowed to defend his position and is not required to stick to the racing line as they were racing. Had Webber of been lapping him that would be the situation, but they were racing for position. In the end its a racing incident
@fantarule Totally agree. Im a big Webber fan and have been following him for the past 14 years. This was racing incident, Heikki was ahead of him in a motor race....when your racing your aim is to stay ahead of your opposition. No slower car/driver should move over (unless being lapped).
horror gasps and shock.. Mark Webber is so lucky to have walked from that unscathed.. not the first time he has viewed the world upside down either .. Mark U are true AUSSIE GRIT!
It is amazing that Webber walked away from this crash virtually unscathed!!!! Thanks to Jackie Stewart and all the other pioneers of F1 motor racing!!!! and their fights for improved saftey in the sport.
