this song brings me back to the days when I was a little kid still learning how to play guitar and professor louie himself taught me how to get down on this song. He had his accordion... the man is a living legend.

The Band were an ensemble outfit, Robbie was just a part, each member brought something different,, with this and many other tunes I always feel that Levon was probably as responsible as anyother member due to his coming from the South, what the Band were not was Robbie's backing band !

So, if Robbie didn't write all those songs himself and just "registered their music", how come his solo material retains that keen storytelling sense and warm vibe? Sure, the atmospherics are different, but the same guy wrote all those songs. If anyone else had been that strong as a writer, other members of The Band would have gone on to PRODUCTIVE and CREATIVE solo careers. That did not happen.

Robertson didn't write much at all. It was a team effort, but Robertson is the guy who drove into NYC and registered their music. Band was not happy with that. Don't take my word. Read Levon's "This Wheel's on Fire"

They sound great here. I really think they are a great band, when I saw them in November at Nokia they blew me away. Sounds like they are putting lots of heart into this song. I hope they do another Nokia run this year too.

Actually, The Band was Dylan's backing band for quite a while. Robbie Robertson, The Band's only guitarist, wrote "The Weight."

Yeah, I know that. Musical preference is such a personal thing I suppose, I never really cared for Robbie Robertson's guitar tone, even as a Tele player myself I find it too sharp and clangy, Larry's is altogether more juicy to my ears! Add to that his abilities on pedal and lap steel, not to mention cittern, mandolin and fiddle... Maybe I should've said Larry Campbell is the best MUSICIAN Dylan ever had in his band, lol... But that's purely my own opinion, of course!

you need to "tighten up it" your vocabulary...hahah... show some respect, this song is meant to be played loose and relaxed, plus the recording isnt very great. I seen them play this song with Levon Helms and its his fucking song, he didnt seem to have any probs with the way they played it... you are pry right though, they should all just listen to you....

You're right. I transposed "up" and "it" and for that I apologize. You are also right that "they should all just listen to" me. If they did so, they would hear me say "Sing in tune" and "rhythmically, you guys aren't on the same page." Famous people have to try just like the rest of us. (By the way, it's "I saw," not "I seen.")
