Can't believe people think this is real or isn't a diss to the west. The "swing swing swing, chop chop chop" comes from an Ice Cube song where he's talking about what a killer he is.
Perfect satire. Slaughtahouse might be in my top 10 best LPs of all time. Ace is one of the rare 1% of rappers that never fell off with age. He actually got better. Shame he never got the recognition or sales some of the other rappers of his era did.
@suckmyballsguy Dude,it took me a while to finally recognize it, but I've witnessed it more than once.when you say "Shame he never got the recognition or sales some of the other rappers of his era did" I couldnt disagree more.I think its because he never got this kinda recognition he was able to stay true to himself, not fall under the almighty power of the dollar, and still make good music in2 the 21st century. Not saying he didnt deserve recognition, but money does change the player n their game
@suckmyballsguy - dat mite b tru but then dat makes ace look like he full a shit...alota his shit sounds like its west influenced too me..but idk...old skool shit is a trip sumtimes i guess...dope jam tho
I have been reading through the comments and I get the impression that we have people who don't understand satire or parody, Music is very objective (matter of personal taste) but their are things that Ace was saying that are empirical (matter of fact) the over use of Zapp (and other funk), and the prevalence of senseless violence in rap at that time had gotten ridiculous, and i don't know about y'all towns, in Seattle people were dying violent deaths regularly-not raps fault but it didn't help
@self1der (continued) - so Ace was capturing the sentiment of many fans east ,west and other, at that time-not dissing a whole coast of people, (who he very much wanted record sales from). If you're old enough remember the time, you know I'm right - and this is not a serious piece its satire, (to be enjoyed and thought over by serious thinkers)

Masta Ace had his time back in the day, but sorry Slaughterhouse was wack. He released it in 93, but Snoop and Dre already had the Chronic album in 92. So, Ace's 80's style rap was already outdated. Westside Connection ripped it up on Mack 10's debut album with the song Westside Slaughterhouse.
@kyotoryan just cuz i'm curious, which mental asylum is allowing to access the net? slaughtahouse is a fuckin masterpiece!!!! the only good thing about westside was wc, cube had fallen way off by then, & well, wack 10 was always wack 10. this album is pure fuckin hip hop, the way it oughtta sound. the first couple minutes of this track is satire, in case some don't get that. 80's outdated? rakim, krs, p.e. , i could go on, all doper than this modern empty-v shit & 90's g-funk, by far.
@jdbankshot You're saying Ice Cube had fallen off by then, but saying this crap is a classic in the same breath? lol Let's see, Slaughterhouse in '93 compared to any of Cube's songs on '92's Predator = no fuckin comparison. Krs, PE, & them had their day before the real dogs came out to play. But time to fess up and throw the west up because by 92, east coast was riding coat tails instead of coming out with original shit. PE was trying hard to keep the content original, but the lyrics & beats?
@kyotoryan let's see, 92, 93 east coast originality..... tribe, de la, gang starr, black moon & bootcamp, wu-tang, kool g rap, epmd, don't sweat the technique came out in 92, return of the boom bap in 93, shall i go on? no, cuz good shit is good shit, regardless of state, coast, or even country...peep government music by promoe(sweden), sweatshop union(canada), snowgoons(germany), iam(france)... if i want funk, i'll peep funkadelic, james brown, the meters, sly, zapp, al green, curtis mayfield.
@jdbankshot I'll give props to some of them for trying to keep east coast hiphop afloat instead of following puffy and mase's wack asses. As for listening to old school funk instead of gfunk, do you use the same logic with listening to the real james brown instead of all the samplers that came out of nyc? I'm down to listen to james brown, parliament, zapp, ohio players, etc, just as quickly as I'll pop in snoop, cube, or a pac hit.
too bad "gangsta" rap was all west coast hiphop at that time , east coast rappers werent on that kill everyone shit only the west and the beat is 100% funk which was purely a WEST COAST style. you dont have to say a name to diss some1...
We need some shit like this against the candy rappin South. I say NY stand up and slaughter those lame ass motherfuckers and expose them for what they are.
It's sad that there is an infinite amount of beautiful underground hip-hop on youtube, Old school, Middle School, and New school, I can't get enough of it, finding real music on here. 90% of music on youtube is basically underground because the airwaves only play like 10% of everything thats on here, maybe even less. Fuck the mainstream filter, thank god for youtube and underground hip-hop like this.
@ac1dchr15t Thats what I fucking LOVE about youtube (and last fm), you find a sick artist or tune and just follow the links to beats that get doper and doper. you hit the nail on the fucking head there mate. Peace

damn this is fucking great, glad I discovered this man. Death to the WAK MC's. Including Gucci, soulja bitch, snoop sell out dogg, and everyone else on the tv for the past 15 years.
man i'm from the west coast and i like masta ace once i discovered he was dissing the west i got mad i love this song man but fuck i still like him XD
You'd have to have a pretty low IQ or not be familiar with messages in Hip Hop to see the satire in this song. There are so many clues: "Ignorant MC", "don't know how to act". Come on people. On the album the end of the track has a skit with 2 kids who just bought an album called "Brains of the Sidewalk" and one of the kids says "yeah, that's what it's ALL about".
gucci mane hell yea slaughter that fag yo gotti beat him with a metal pipe lil' wayne nah he cool to me he's a real artists u jus gotta listen 2 em trust me but please beat shawty lo rocko n boosies ass that would b nice
This is one of the most slept on message albums. Notice not 1 of your so called gangstas at the time (NWA, Death Row, South Central Cartel, MC 8, Quik, etc) never commented or stepped to Ace after dropping this. Hmmm.
Tight concept album, with tight beats, and tight lyrics--the total package! One of my all time favs.
No chordarrow I like a lot of west coast artists. Just couldn't get with the messages being communicated. Much luv and respect for the Bay area--Hieroglyphics crew, Saafir, E-40. :)
@chcfresh1 No its not,its to the genre of music that the west coast used to put out back in the day. They were talking about how pointless it was to rap about violence and unnecessary bullshit. Its not to any rappers or any rapper in particular. It was to Gangsta' rap. Damn, did you even hear any names being called or mentioned? Listen to the song again.
Dude, the song is a parody of the gangsta hip-hop that was popular back in 1993. The rest of the song basically rags on gangsta hip-hop. It's still a hell of a lot better than that fraud Lil' Wayne.
Dude, the song is a parody of the gangsta hip-hop that was popular back in 1993. The rest of the song basically rags on gangsta hip-hop. It's still a hell of a lot better than that fraud Lil' Wayne.
This isn't parody, it's satire. Parody is when u make jokes about something, like what CB4/Scary Movie did. Satire goes deeper than that. If u never listened to the second half of this record, u wouldn't even know the first half wasn't a real gangsta record. THAT'S satire. Satire's not really supposed to be funny, it's supposed to show the absurdity of the particular target it's aimed at, in this case, gangsta rappers.
word but i once thought that that first part of the song was really him talkin about how he is a killer but he was trying to tell the kids its wack to rap about that but for some older fans they would see that he really is spittin about being a killer
lol i love this video esp. when dude keeps stabbing the meat at random. I was hooked to that 1st beat so much that I didnt realize it was a diss till i read the comments (I was wondering why ace kept shaking his head in contempt everytime they spit some bizzare shit)
hmm....if yall are right about this bein a parody, this makes it seem like a West Coast diss, look at how the beat during the "parody" is done like a 90s West Coast track then switches once he gets "serious". Plus that whole Raiders and Kings line.
dude, the mainstream rap is like really bad now. This album shoulda came out in 2006 xD. I was born in the early 90's and well most of the rap from then was pretty good. And I just know 2006 was the worst year for rap
even though the first rhyme was meant to be a parody, it's still better thaan alot of the crap being played today (and notice: no profanity in the real rhyme!! how'd he do that?? Oh yeah: SKILLS!!)
Check out an interview with Masta Ace live Saturday January 10th,2009 10:30amEST on The Mass Appeal sports talk radio show on WBTR..Google 'Jayreelz' for all archived shows..More guests every week..In Feb.,we'll have Mc Serch on ..
Technically not true. There was a lot of West Coast stuff that was incredible back then. Ace was more making fun of the gangsta rap that was popular back then. Most of those tunes were sampling Zapp too, as does this track. I like the way it takes that sample and makes innovative use of it. Such a cool tune in so many ways.
"Strictly Raiders and Kings gear, only wear black & I dont know how to act no more. So come & take a chance n' mess around with the black Charles Manson." Thats some other shit!!!

Synergyforce 2 years ago
Hey buster its sounds like u just hate on the West. Probably cause you couldnt make it out there :)
chordarrow 2 years ago 2
No chordarrow I like a lot of west coast artists. Just couldn't get with the messages being communicated. Much luv and respect for the Bay area--Hieroglyphics crew, Saafir, E-40. :)

chcfresh1 2 years ago 31
Your right ...they even use the funk beat sample by Roger.
rockjohnson80 2 years ago
@chcfresh1 No its not,its to the genre of music that the west coast used to put out back in the day. They were talking about how pointless it was to rap about violence and unnecessary bullshit. Its not to any rappers or any rapper in particular. It was to Gangsta' rap. Damn, did you even hear any names being called or mentioned? Listen to the song again.

Dude, the song is a parody of the gangsta hip-hop that was popular back in 1993. The rest of the song basically rags on gangsta hip-hop. It's still a hell of a lot better than that fraud Lil' Wayne.

Cool beat but those lyrics are so cliche of 90's g-rap and their pretty sloppy too and that music video's pretty lame.

This isn't parody, it's satire. Parody is when u make jokes about something, like what CB4/Scary Movie did. Satire goes deeper than that. If u never listened to the second half of this record, u wouldn't even know the first half wasn't a real gangsta record. THAT'S satire. Satire's not really supposed to be funny, it's supposed to show the absurdity of the particular target it's aimed at, in this case, gangsta rappers.
dawb86 2 years ago 7
word but i once thought that that first part of the song was really him talkin about how he is a killer but he was trying to tell the kids its wack to rap about that but for some older fans they would see that he really is spittin about being a killer

lol i love this video esp. when dude keeps stabbing the meat at random. I was hooked to that 1st beat so much that I didnt realize it was a diss till i read the comments (I was wondering why ace kept shaking his head in contempt everytime they spit some bizzare shit)
alaskan2001 2 years ago
hmm....if yall are right about this bein a parody, this makes it seem like a West Coast diss, look at how the beat during the "parody" is done like a 90s West Coast track then switches once he gets "serious". Plus that whole Raiders and Kings line.
SouthBaySoulja 2 years ago
dude, the mainstream rap is like really bad now. This album shoulda came out in 2006 xD. I was born in the early 90's and well most of the rap from then was pretty good. And I just know 2006 was the worst year for rap

this vid is classic. their pretty much making fun of the westcoast and their wack lyrics at the time.then ace gets the mic...
onlyrealhiphop12 3 years ago
Technically not true. There was a lot of West Coast stuff that was incredible back then. Ace was more making fun of the gangsta rap that was popular back then. Most of those tunes were sampling Zapp too, as does this track. I like the way it takes that sample and makes innovative use of it. Such a cool tune in so many ways.
