Dont EVER use PVC in pyrotechnics, if your nozzle is to small it can cause the rocket to explode. With PVC that will cause it to become a shrapnel bomb sending pieces of razer sharp PVC everywhere. Use a thick walled paper tube for something like this, cause if that explodes it wont make any shrapnel.

use a rubber mallet instead of a hammer so you dont ruin your dad's ratchet extensions

I took a socket which fits snugly down the rocket tube then attached a ratchet extension to that.

well you could go to sears and buy an individual socket which fits your tube and find a ratchet extension in the same place, near the ratchet wrenches

u can get KNO3 from garden shops where it is called "salt peter"
