To shed some light on this situation, the reason why the barricade was built was to trap the salmon in one place until they could be harvested by hatchery personel. Still sad to think that these fish swim so long a ways only to get stopped by a stupid barrier made by us, so we could harvest them...

Dam's usualy play a large roll in what your talking about.. Fish Weirs are setup at Fish Hatcheries to prevent Returning Adults from migrating and spawning/dieing infront of Hatchery Water intakes. Hatcheries who dont use this practice usualy see signs of Disease and high mortality for their young. Most streams like this are man made and not natural sections of river (These are obviously Hatchery Fish) Great Comment though.. atleast u show alot of understanding rather than negative feedback lol.
