man people calling clark a 'cheap shot artist'. you guys really don't know or haven't watched hockey that much. i've been to hundreds upon hundreds of games back in the day at the old forum, the gardens and a few others, all the players do stuff period. Clark actually was interested in 'payback' and what might look 'cheap' was 'payback' and also whats known as 'doing your job to survive' . hockey is a tough sport.
@n8thegreat2 BUllshit, Clark was a thug. Did you see that cheap shot against Konstintinov? Notice how Clark wasn't so tough once big Primeau came after him he'd of handed him his ass
@atone48732 hahah Primeau was not even close to tough haha. you truly are stupid. Clark fought Probert, Mcsorlley, Kordic, and many other enforcers. That is not cowardly at all. Try learning about hockey there bud.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi You're right. Not sure what "atone" is watching or what color glasses he's wearing, but he hasn't watched much hockey if thats really the way he thinks. Leafs need a MAN like Clark now....leader, play maker, scorer, and sure needs no protection! I think the game of hockey is being hurt, ever since they started combining the rules of hockey and figure skating.
@Downedworker Not just the Leafs, but the league needs more guys like Clark, Tocchet, Neely, Shanny, Gilmour, Probert, Kocur, Linden. Glad we have Iginla and Lucic, but that is not enough to save the league from turning into a pussy hockey league.
@EyesOfTheSouthSTi Again, you hit the nail on the head! I'm sure I'm quite a bit older than you, but you must have came up watching what I refer to as real hockey, before the watering down. I know theres factors involved, but the rate of serious injury seemed less, when there was option to wear helmets, and hits and aggression were a part of the game. You named a great group, and there are some others that would fit in there, but hockey will never be what it once was.
Clark was a cheap shot artist, the worst ever!Combine all the dirty tacticks of pricks such as Matt Cook,Sean Avery,Steve Downie,Ulf Samuelsson, and Tiger Williams. You get a sucker puncher like Wendy Calrk.
@malawri67 Hope you got all the toys you wanted for Christmas, little man. Thats an assumption, but I'm sure you're just young, and not the ignorant, uneducated, assinine individual you appear to be here. When you grow up, and get your own TV, try watching some real hockey.
@atone48732 indeed.I cant believe it when I see Cherry whining about europeans beign cheap shot artists as well as guys such as Downie,Cook,Avery and Lapierre yet praise the worst scum bag who ever played the NHL;Wendy Clarkette!
I mean this fag was all about open ice head shots, elbows, cross checks, boarding no to mention jumping guys and pounding them while they'd be helb on the ice by the linesmen.
It's nice to see some logical comments about Clark for a change. Yeah, he was one heck of a fighter....but also one of the sneakiest. As BoSox alluded to - he often had stunned the guy with a couple hard rights before his opponent knew they were going to fight. I never saw Probie do that...nor Laraque in present day....Clark was "cheap" in that regard. But, he threw them very fast and very hard. He would have won 90% of his fights even if he started his fights like a man. But, he didn't.
Yeah okay. Clark at 5'11'' cleaned the ice with guys much bigger than him, like Probert and McSorley. Many of Clark's fights consisted of sticking up for teammates.
These comments that you're praising aren't logical, they just happen to fall on Wendel haters in which many decided to use this video to insult him.
Clark is tough...nobody is saying he isn't..but Tinordi owned him and Wendel had a reputation throughout the league as someone who hit opponents before they dropped their gloves. In the vast majority of his fights, he is already punching before his opponent is set.
I don't know which Tinordi-Clark fight you're talking about because there were a few, but no where did he own them. They were pretty even fights, with no one going down and both landing punches.
Good for Wendel, man. He was damn quick. As soon as he would say "You wanna go?" and the guy would say yes, that very second Clark is punching. He was never an instigator, so you can stop complaining about that. And he hit his opponents before he fought them many times to get them to fight.
Now it's funny because I'm a Bruins fan, and we both hate the Habs with a passion. Wendel is my 3rd favorite player of all-time behind Neely and Tocchet. I'm not saying they are the 3 best...but they were the 3 players that I would consistantly pay to see!
I don't consider it bad mouthing someone when you tell the truth about what their reputation was. Neely Tocchet and Clark all played the game the same way, and I respect them for it. The only thing I didn't like was when he fought his teammate Maguire at practice, and did the same thing to him, landing punches before Maguire had dropped his gloves, and he cut him. When Maguire came back out and wanted to fight cleanly, Clark refused saying that he won and it was over.
I saw that. There are many things that could contribute to a fight at practice. It's not the only time in history that it happened. Maybe Maguire was being a piece of shit with Wendel, and I've wanted to fucking drop teammates of mine many times for various reasons. You don't know what Maguire could have told him. And I don't know if he came back looking to fight again, if I was Wendel, I would do the same things. I'm a good armwrestler, and I rarely give rematches for winning.
You know the code in hockey. If you fight someone and get the better of them because you took advantage of your opponent, you should be willing to drop cleanly and fight fair. Maguire was really pissed and was willing to go with stitches in his face and everything. He could have just come back and started firing punches at Clark, but he didn't. He verbally challenged him to square off cleanly, and in that case you should honor that!
In life, you have to look for and use any and every advantage you possibly can, and it greatly applies to fighting. As soon as your brain grasps the fact that you're opponent is willing to fight, ready or not, your gloves should drop instantly. He beat Maguire, and Maguire was stupid to challenge him, his own teammate, to a rematch in the same practice. A smart fighter never fights when he's angry, so in a way, Clark did him a favour. I would do the EXACT same thing.
I absolutely disagree "you have to look for and use any and every advantage you possibly can"
So if I can sucker someone and land the 1st shot, then it's ok?You said take any advantage you can get!
Look, you can stop defending him already I already explained the reputation Wendel had, and I've seen him play in exponentially more games than you, especially since you didn't even know about the MacTavish fight. I still like him, but I'd have liked to have seen him square off cleanly more often!
First off, Wendel is my hockey idol, so seeing more games of his and knowing more about him are two different things. Also, I didn't say I didn't know about the MacTavish fight, I didn't know that he killed a woman in a druck driving crash.
If it was a street fight, sure. But in the NHL, usually a sucker punch lands a penalty and/or a suspension. What I meant in saying that was why wait for the guy to be settle and get his arms up and fix his helmet when you know you have the power to nail him?
Perhaps you should, because in the military, they teach you how to kill a man and effectively. They don't tell you to make sure the enemy has his gun in his hand and his arm is raised before you shoot, and a great warrior is merciless, like Wendel.
Thus, I say that you might want to look into a brief military training regiment.
I was in the Marine Corps from 1990-1994 dipshit. You ever kill a man before? No you haven't.. So give your cock-holster a rest. We didn't just shoot unarmed people you fucking donkey.
Obviously, but if you see an enemy with a weapon in his holster and you see him reaching for it, are you gonna wait until it's in his hand pointing at you? It's the same thing with fighting. You contradicted yourself again fool. When did I ever say you're supposed to shoot an unarmed man? Wake up.
I respect the fact that you served in the military, but calm the fuck down.
No fuckstick, I wont calm down because you are talking about something that you have no clue about! Fighting in hockey has NOTHING to do with rules of engagement in the military you fucking retard. In the honarable fights in the NHL, the fighters square off cleanly! Since you can't seem to grasp that, I hope you go out bar hopping tonight and some kid suckers you. Then you can talk about how honarable it is to hit someone before they are ready.
If someone randomly punches a stranger in the face for no reason, then obviously he's a coward and he has no honour. But if two guys get heated and give signs of willingness to fight, fucking PUNCH. Are you stupid or what? Clark didn't just sucker punch people, he would ask them to go and punch them when they said OKAY, moron.
Tell me something, if a guy takes 30 seconds to strap off his helmet, are you just gonna wait there like an idiot for 30 seconds?
No he didn't fuckstick. At what point did Craig MacTavish say "ok." He landed 3 shots on Probert before Bob ever got his gloves off in one of their fights. In the fight where Wendel didn't throw a sucker shot, Probert pummeled him down to the ice and Clark was hanging onto Probert's leg. Who the fuck takes 30 seconds to remove a helmet? Are you retarded or something?
If you heard the interview of MacTavish after the game, he acknoledged that Wendel beat him, moron. MacTavish dropped his gloves and punched, so you can stop complaining.
Clark and Probert fought at least 2 times that I know of after 1993, and Clark won both. Probert got the better of Wendel in the 80's. But from 1985-1989, Clark was 18-22 years old. When he got a little older and stronger, he nailed Probert.
It was an example, idiot. If a guy is stalling in a fight, what would you do?
Clark suckered MacTavish and continued to punch when he was down. Let's quote the Toronto newpaper! "MacTavish, since he was the best player on the ice, was the obvious No. 1 target. He was set upon by Toronto forward Wendel Clark with five minutes remaining. Clark punched MacTavish in the face, opening a deep cut over the left eye, and continued flailing away at MacTavish after the dazed Oiler had fallen, his blood forming pools across the ice."
Also, you said that you don't believe in the concept of taking advantage of anything you can, but I'm sure you'd rather be walking with a bad-ass gun as opposed to a broken down AK, right? So then it would be hypocritical to bring more advanced weapons to battle than the enemy because they weren't ready or because it's not fair?
Wow you're a fucking idiot! Why don't you read what I posted again you dumb fucking cunt! "Fighting in hockey has NOTHING to do with rules of engagement in the military you fucking retard."
Now stick to something you know Booster, like pimple cream and internet porn!
Wow, YOU'RE a fucking idiot. I said that in LIFE, not only FIGHTING, you need every advantage you can, and you said you disagree. So I am simply pointing out your contradiction when you'd rather have more advanced weaponds than you're enemy.
Stick to what you know, which is wrongly and falsly and complainingly talking about true hockey players.
Again you fucking idiot, no you don't need to take every advantage you can! It's not like when you get jumped and are fighting for your life now is it!
Using your logic, it is perfectly OK to bite someone, because you have to do ANYTHING to gain the advantage. Also, I'm sure that hitting your opponent with your stick then would be just as sportsmanlike! LMAO You're a fucking joke kid, and I'd love the opportunity to teach you sometime!
In a street fight, yes it is perfectly okay. There are no rules on the street. In sports like hockey or boxing, you must take advantage of whatever you can respecting the rules. Biting a player in the NHL will land you a nice suspension.
How many instigators did Clark get? Not that many, right? What does that tell you? The officials determined he squared off fine. Getting an early lead by punching fast is not bad in any regard.
Again, on the STREET, anything goes. Yes, I would bite.
no shithead, your logic is assbackwards! In a streetfight, anything goes! You do anything to protect yourself and protect those you are with, because there are no linesmen or referee to save you!
The instigator did not exist in clark's first couple of years, and Clark had 65 of his 155 fights in his first 2 years! NO INSTIGATOR RULE!
Isn't that what I said, moron? On the street, there are no rules. You asked me if to my logic, biting would be acceptable and I said yes if it's on the street.
He still had 90 fights WITH the instigator rule. 90! Now tell me, genious, how many instigators did he get?
lmao Notice he had 34 and 31 fights in each season before the instigator rule! After the rule was implemented, he never even hit 20! And injuries are no excuse, because he only played 66 games the year he had 31 fights! When he was close to his prime at 26 and 27, he played in 66 and 64 games and had 13 fights and 5 fights! Seems to me he stopped fighting as much after the rule...just as Rob Ray did after the tie down rule! LMAO
Here's a quote from one of the articles YOU gave me!
May 23, 1994.
Around the NHL, Clark is given wide berth even though he doesn't drop his glove as often as he did when he first arrived in the league, nine years ago. "He can still fight like a bastard," says Toronto assistant general manager Bill Watters. "He's just more selective." Adds Leaf defenseman Todd Gill, "There's not a guy in the league that wants a piece of him. Wendel isn't swinging for show. He's swinging to hurt you."

Adds Leaf defenseman Todd Gill, "There's not a guy in the league that wants a piece of him. Wendel isn't swinging for show. He's swinging to hurt you."
In his first two seasons, he wanted to make a name for himself and be feared and respected, which he did brilliantly. An 18-20 year old kid fucking with the league's best. Later on in his career, already established as one of the league's best, you can't expect many guys to go with you as much. Also, the Leafs were a powerhouse at that time, so he didn't need to fight as much. He would fight a lot more when the Leafs weren't as good and needed motivation, and Wendel delivered.
actually after the tie down rule ray had a career high 27 fights in a season......after that he pretty much hit his avgerage of about 18 fights a year considering he didnt play as many games......and to tell u the truth ray was a punching bag his firstfew years in the league, he had a lot of KO's after the rule was made
actually..you need to stop smoking crack....Ray's win percentage dropped dramatically after the tie down rule, and that was my point! Ray was an overrated fighter...end of story. Tony Twist laughed at Ray when Ray asked if he couold participate in his motorcycle ride..not because Twist was being an asshole, but because Tony knew Ray was a joke in the NHL community. (Twist was champ at the time & I believe he cheated too...but neither man earned my respect)
wow u know rays win percentage after the tie down rule off hand?.......i dunno if i should be impressed or feel sad for u.....have a nice day young man keep up the good work
It's not hard to look up dipshit. I enjoy hockey fights, and Dropyourgloves dotcom will show a list of every fighters NHL fights, including reviews and messages about them. I use to write reviews for the site.
when you have 20 different people review a fight, there is a general consensus...and the reviewer of the site pulls any reviews he consideres to be biased....for instance if Philly Mike gives a fight to Rick Tocchet in one he clearly lost, the review is pulled and the author is warned. There are sytems in place on the site to show bias for not just a certain team, but a certain player as well. Its about the best hockey site around...
must have been fun to fight without a sweater on for so many years....that's why I never sympathized when he got the shit kicked out of him after the tie-down rule came along.
rotflmao then I guess you can call every other NHL pugilist from that era a liar! He wouldnt ask them to go, he would have his mind made up and start throwing before his opponent was set. Hell, you can look at his fights all you want! I don't remember a single time where he was talking to someone and they both skated backwards and squared off cleanly! Look at Downey Boulerice or Lucic as an example where they mixed it up, broke cleanly and squared off clean! Clark didn't do that!
Okay, but nowhere do you just see the guy looking the other way and Clark simply going up to him when he doesn't see him and start throwing punches. Many times, the guy would be shouting things to Clark, and yes, he would start punching right away, but not just because he felt like it. How many times can you say he got an instigator penalty?
A "clean" fight is more of a respectful fight. Clark's fights were passionate and brutal, usually to really spark the team or defend a fellow player.
You don't? LMAO I guess you missed the time he pummeled Craig MacTavish who had no intention of throwing a punch and Wendel suckered him while thery were just hanging on during a line brawl. Then Clark proceeded to punch him while he was down on the ice. That was pretty cheap, but I hated MacTavish because he killed a woman in a drunk driving crash, so I forgave Clark pretty quick!
It's true, he did. I didn't realise. My image of him has changed.
Anyway, when Clark wants to fight, he'll do it and get his opponent to by any means necessary. He kept on going after him until he saw MacTavish was clearly frustrated, then he started swinging. Not the cleanest, but not the dirtiest either. I personally hate some things Chris Pronger did on route to winning the Cup in 2007, but damnit, I would love for him to be on the Leafs. A guy that is feared and respected wins you games.
There is no doubt that both Pronger and Clark were and are amazing players...all I did was point out the one aspect of Clark's game that I had a problem with. Probert is the greatest of all time, and I didn't like the fact that he rigged his jersey to come off easily to gain an advantage. Kocur never had a gimmick-just a HAMMER punch! Ray was a guy I hated because he didn't even have an undershirt on, so once his jersey was off, you couldnt do anything. After the Rob Ray rule-he got pummelled!
He did start his fights like a man. You don't have to skate backwards and make sure the guy you're gonna fight has everything he wanted to remove and is 100% ready, and then skate around each other for 15 seconds waiting for something to happen. Wendel did it the real manyl way. As soon as he made it clear to his opponent that he wanted to fight and his opponent was down for it, Wendel wouldn't back off like an idiot, he jumped him. As soon as you're willing to fight, you'd better be 100% ready.
Well it's funny that you say what you did because if you count the amount of instigator penalties he got, you won't find many at all. And you probably don't know this, but many of his fights for to defend teammates.
Your analogy is that you have to back off and wait until the guy takes his wrist guards off, his elbow pads, and whatever else he wants and then fight. The real way is "Do you wanna fight?"
well in proportion to what it had to come back from, it was damn good.
Wendel Clark is my favourite player, no doubt. But this has nothing to do with bias. You are just plain stupid. He wouldn't be regarded as one of the best fighters and toughest guys in NHL history is he was a coward like you're foolishly implying. Hang your head in shame, and "get out of Dodge".
K....thanks again for explaining how tough guys start fights 17....guess that's why they called him Wendy when he played his away games....cause he was so darn brave.....
bye 17 - thanks for telling us you're not biased 17....we would've got the wrong idea.
haha, some called him Wendy because they obviously hated him because he was the heart and soul of a team that many people hate. But these are real saps because not only could he beat the shit out of them (and you too, mind you), but he also has a hotter wife than all of them (and you too, and you might even be a homo for all I know).
hey man, no problem! I enjoyed belittling you and I will miss it. Aw well. Take care!
Ever notice how the refs would always jump in and prevent Clark from getting his clock cleaned? This usually happened after Clark got in a cheap shot or two.
I have. I know of what I speak. Even watched a few that aren't on you tube. Even saw a few live games.
Dude, you need to take a valium. You have some sort of gay-thing for Wendel, don't you? You do realize there is help and support groups for guys like you, right.
southdakota1001, shut the fuck up. You're just a wannabe touch guy who likes to insult REAL tough guys like Wendel to feel like a hero, because you know damn well that a guy like Wendel Clark could beat the fucking shit out of you.
Wendel didn't do well though against BIG guys with great Stamina. (except Probert who often waited TOO long and the refs would come in)
McSorely beat him twice and they had draws in 3 fights with no winner. Mark Tinordi beat him both times they fought, and Behn Wilson, beat him but they were all good scraps.
I wish Cam Neely and Wendel Clark type players were still in the league. This disney on ice shit that is now the NHL sucks donkey ass!
lmao wiped the floor with him? LMFAOWhy don't you go to dropyourgloves dotcom and read reviews from even LEAFS fans. Not 1 single person gave the fight to Clark! That's right...of the dozens of fans around the country who arent biased for either team, everyone gave the win to McSorley. and a few people called it a draw.
Do you want the punch stats from that fight? McSorley threw 32 and landed 19 while Clark threw 10 and landed 4.
I really don't care what that website might say. What you might not realise is that every non-Leaf fan in Canada is a Leaf hater. You love them or hate them; no inbetween, and many hate the Leafs more than they like their team.
If McSorley won the fight, he would have left the ice with his head held up high, not looking down and pushing the camera away. Not to mention he was half undressed and looked like he just came out of a threesome. Bob Cole even says "Clark is nailing McSorley!"
Clark landed 2 good shots, but was hugging on clinging for dear life with his head buried in McSorely's chest...no offense. Yes, McSorley had a shiner, and Wendel landed the best punch, but that doesnt make you a winner. Bob Sweeney absolutely DRILLED Jim McKenzie in a fight and split his eye open. covering his face in blood, then Jim pounded Sweeney down to the ice. Even as a Bruins fan, I have to give McKenzie the win because he took over the fight after getting nailed.
Well in that case, okay. But Wendel didn't get drilled by McSorley. Neither of them went down, and overall, yeah it was pretty even, but come on, Clark clearly got the decision. He was clinging on to him because McSorley is like 5 inches taller and probably at least 30-40 pounds heavier. But if McSorley felt like he won the fight, he would have left the ice like a hero, not pushing the camera away.
mccaris, you miss the point! you said "Wendel didn't get drilled by McSorley"
And Sweeney dint get drilled by McKenzie! Bob landed the best punch of the fight, as Clark did against McSorley! However, if you land a great shot, but get outpointed and manhandled after that, you dont win! Plain and simple!
True, but he didn't get manhandled after that. Yes, Wendel didn't bombard him like he did with his first 4 shots, but McSorley didn't do much either. He was mostly wrestling Wendel and trying to get a few shots in which he didn't. Not to mention once more, McSorley felt he lost the fight and/or got embarrassed because his pads and jersey were all over the place and his helmet was crooked and left the ice putting his hand on the camera. A guy who feels he won wouldn't do that.
Clark apparently had something against Russian players, and Primeau could count himself lucky that he didn´t get clocked by one of Clark´s patented haymakers. Thanks for posting this.
Patented haymakers? LOL you mean Wendells patented "THROW A SHOT BEFORE THE OTHER GUY IS SET" strategy?" LMAO
Don't get me wrong, I loved Clark. He is one of my top 3 favorite players of all time...but he had a penchant for throwing a shot before the other guy could drop his gloves. That was his reputation around the league.
primeau is 2 feet taller than clark but primeau would have got the shit knocked out of him... you can see at the end of this clip how clark was letting primeau know that he was open for a rematch... for his size clark was one tough son of a bitch and great sniper.... too bad about all of his injuries that took a toll on his career.

@malawri67 Hope you got all the toys you wanted for Christmas, little man. Thats an assumption, but I'm sure you're just young, and not the ignorant, uneducated, assinine individual you appear to be here. When you grow up, and get your own TV, try watching some real hockey.

I mean this fag was all about open ice head shots, elbows, cross checks, boarding no to mention jumping guys and pounding them while they'd be helb on the ice by the linesmen.
No class,no pride,no honnour,Wendy Clarkett!

But, he didn't.
ggtrains 3 years ago
Yeah okay. Clark at 5'11'' cleaned the ice with guys much bigger than him, like Probert and McSorley. Many of Clark's fights consisted of sticking up for teammates.
These comments that you're praising aren't logical, they just happen to fall on Wendel haters in which many decided to use this video to insult him.
mcaris17 3 years ago
Clark is tough...nobody is saying he isn't..but Tinordi owned him and Wendel had a reputation throughout the league as someone who hit opponents before they dropped their gloves. In the vast majority of his fights, he is already punching before his opponent is set.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
I don't know which Tinordi-Clark fight you're talking about because there were a few, but no where did he own them. They were pretty even fights, with no one going down and both landing punches.
Good for Wendel, man. He was damn quick. As soon as he would say "You wanna go?" and the guy would say yes, that very second Clark is punching. He was never an instigator, so you can stop complaining about that. And he hit his opponents before he fought them many times to get them to fight.
mcaris17 3 years ago
Now it's funny because I'm a Bruins fan, and we both hate the Habs with a passion. Wendel is my 3rd favorite player of all-time behind Neely and Tocchet. I'm not saying they are the 3 best...but they were the 3 players that I would consistantly pay to see!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
lol, that we do. I agree with you there, and that's where Leafs and Bruins fans can have a BBQ together for.
Wendel is your third favourite player of all time! Nice! I wouldn't think so though, the way you're kinda bad mouthing him...
mcaris17 3 years ago
I don't consider it bad mouthing someone when you tell the truth about what their reputation was. Neely Tocchet and Clark all played the game the same way, and I respect them for it. The only thing I didn't like was when he fought his teammate Maguire at practice, and did the same thing to him, landing punches before Maguire had dropped his gloves, and he cut him. When Maguire came back out and wanted to fight cleanly, Clark refused saying that he won and it was over.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
I'm a good armwrestler, and I rarely give rematches for winning.
mcaris17 3 years ago
You know the code in hockey. If you fight someone and get the better of them because you took advantage of your opponent, you should be willing to drop cleanly and fight fair. Maguire was really pissed and was willing to go with stitches in his face and everything. He could have just come back and started firing punches at Clark, but he didn't. He verbally challenged him to square off cleanly, and in that case you should honor that!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
In life, you have to look for and use any and every advantage you possibly can, and it greatly applies to fighting. As soon as your brain grasps the fact that you're opponent is willing to fight, ready or not, your gloves should drop instantly. He beat Maguire, and Maguire was stupid to challenge him, his own teammate, to a rematch in the same practice. A smart fighter never fights when he's angry, so in a way, Clark did him a favour. I would do the EXACT same thing.
mcaris17 3 years ago
I absolutely disagree "you have to look for and use any and every advantage you possibly can"
So if I can sucker someone and land the 1st shot, then it's ok?You said take any advantage you can get!
Look, you can stop defending him already I already explained the reputation Wendel had, and I've seen him play in exponentially more games than you, especially since you didn't even know about the MacTavish fight. I still like him, but I'd have liked to have seen him square off cleanly more often!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
First off, Wendel is my hockey idol, so seeing more games of his and knowing more about him are two different things. Also, I didn't say I didn't know about the MacTavish fight, I didn't know that he killed a woman in a druck driving crash.
If it was a street fight, sure. But in the NHL, usually a sucker punch lands a penalty and/or a suspension. What I meant in saying that was why wait for the guy to be settle and get his arms up and fix his helmet when you know you have the power to nail him?
mcaris17 3 years ago
you obviously know nothing about honor or code. perhaps you should sign up for the military?
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Perhaps you should, because in the military, they teach you how to kill a man and effectively. They don't tell you to make sure the enemy has his gun in his hand and his arm is raised before you shoot, and a great warrior is merciless, like Wendel.
Thus, I say that you might want to look into a brief military training regiment.
mcaris17 3 years ago
I was in the Marine Corps from 1990-1994 dipshit. You ever kill a man before? No you haven't.. So give your cock-holster a rest. We didn't just shoot unarmed people you fucking donkey.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Obviously, but if you see an enemy with a weapon in his holster and you see him reaching for it, are you gonna wait until it's in his hand pointing at you? It's the same thing with fighting. You contradicted yourself again fool. When did I ever say you're supposed to shoot an unarmed man? Wake up.
I respect the fact that you served in the military, but calm the fuck down.
mcaris17 3 years ago
No fuckstick, I wont calm down because you are talking about something that you have no clue about! Fighting in hockey has NOTHING to do with rules of engagement in the military you fucking retard. In the honarable fights in the NHL, the fighters square off cleanly! Since you can't seem to grasp that, I hope you go out bar hopping tonight and some kid suckers you. Then you can talk about how honarable it is to hit someone before they are ready.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
If someone randomly punches a stranger in the face for no reason, then obviously he's a coward and he has no honour. But if two guys get heated and give signs of willingness to fight, fucking PUNCH. Are you stupid or what? Clark didn't just sucker punch people, he would ask them to go and punch them when they said OKAY, moron.
Tell me something, if a guy takes 30 seconds to strap off his helmet, are you just gonna wait there like an idiot for 30 seconds?
mcaris17 3 years ago
No he didn't fuckstick. At what point did Craig MacTavish say "ok." He landed 3 shots on Probert before Bob ever got his gloves off in one of their fights. In the fight where Wendel didn't throw a sucker shot, Probert pummeled him down to the ice and Clark was hanging onto Probert's leg. Who the fuck takes 30 seconds to remove a helmet? Are you retarded or something?
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
If you heard the interview of MacTavish after the game, he acknoledged that Wendel beat him, moron. MacTavish dropped his gloves and punched, so you can stop complaining.
Clark and Probert fought at least 2 times that I know of after 1993, and Clark won both. Probert got the better of Wendel in the 80's. But from 1985-1989, Clark was 18-22 years old. When he got a little older and stronger, he nailed Probert.
It was an example, idiot. If a guy is stalling in a fight, what would you do?
mcaris17 3 years ago
Clark suckered MacTavish and continued to punch when he was down. Let's quote the Toronto newpaper! "MacTavish, since he was the best player on the ice, was the obvious No. 1 target. He was set upon by Toronto forward Wendel Clark with five minutes remaining. Clark punched MacTavish in the face, opening a deep cut over the left eye, and continued flailing away at MacTavish after the dazed Oiler had fallen, his blood forming pools across the ice."
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Why don't you post the link to where you saw the coaches mouthing at each other, the coaches being quoted, and the 'article' you just gave me...
mcaris17 3 years ago
I just messaged it to you fuckstick. you need to scroll down because there are about 25 articles from Clark's rookie year posted here!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Also, you said that you don't believe in the concept of taking advantage of anything you can, but I'm sure you'd rather be walking with a bad-ass gun as opposed to a broken down AK, right? So then it would be hypocritical to bring more advanced weapons to battle than the enemy because they weren't ready or because it's not fair?
mcaris17 3 years ago
Wow you're a fucking idiot! Why don't you read what I posted again you dumb fucking cunt! "Fighting in hockey has NOTHING to do with rules of engagement in the military you fucking retard."
Now stick to something you know Booster, like pimple cream and internet porn!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Wow, YOU'RE a fucking idiot. I said that in LIFE, not only FIGHTING, you need every advantage you can, and you said you disagree. So I am simply pointing out your contradiction when you'd rather have more advanced weaponds than you're enemy.
Stick to what you know, which is wrongly and falsly and complainingly talking about true hockey players.
mcaris17 3 years ago
Leafs coach John Brophy and Sather shouted at one another from their respective benches, with Brophy challenging Sather to step his way.
Sather declined then started yelling at fans who had left their seats to approach the Oilers bench.
"Our players were frustrated and, after all, they were playing the best team in the NHL. And they are a physical team," said Brophy.
"Asked whether he expected Clark to be suspended, Brophy declined comment."
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Again you fucking idiot, no you don't need to take every advantage you can! It's not like when you get jumped and are fighting for your life now is it!
Using your logic, it is perfectly OK to bite someone, because you have to do ANYTHING to gain the advantage. Also, I'm sure that hitting your opponent with your stick then would be just as sportsmanlike! LMAO You're a fucking joke kid, and I'd love the opportunity to teach you sometime!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
In a street fight, yes it is perfectly okay. There are no rules on the street. In sports like hockey or boxing, you must take advantage of whatever you can respecting the rules. Biting a player in the NHL will land you a nice suspension.
How many instigators did Clark get? Not that many, right? What does that tell you? The officials determined he squared off fine. Getting an early lead by punching fast is not bad in any regard.
Again, on the STREET, anything goes. Yes, I would bite.
mcaris17 3 years ago
no shithead, your logic is assbackwards!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Isn't that what I said, moron? On the street, there are no rules. You asked me if to my logic, biting would be acceptable and I said yes if it's on the street.
He still had 90 fights WITH the instigator rule. 90! Now tell me, genious, how many instigators did he get?
mcaris17 3 years ago
lmao Notice he had 34 and 31 fights in each season before the instigator rule! LMAO
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Here's a quote from one of the articles YOU gave me!
May 23, 1994.
Around the NHL, Clark is given wide berth even though he doesn't drop his glove as often as he did when he first arrived in the league, nine years ago. "He can still fight like a bastard," says Toronto assistant general manager Bill Watters. "He's just more selective." Adds Leaf defenseman Todd Gill, "There's not a guy in the league that wants a piece of him. Wendel isn't swinging for show. He's swinging to hurt you."

BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
In his first two seasons, he wanted to make a name for himself and be feared and respected, which he did brilliantly. An 18-20 year old kid fucking with the league's best. Later on in his career, already established as one of the league's best, you can't expect many guys to go with you as much. Also, the Leafs were a powerhouse at that time, so he didn't need to fight as much. He would fight a lot more when the Leafs weren't as good and needed motivation, and Wendel delivered.
mcaris17 3 years ago
actually after the tie down rule ray had a career high 27 fights in a season......after that he pretty much hit his avgerage of about 18 fights a year considering he didnt play as many games......and to tell u the truth ray was a punching bag his firstfew years in the league, he had a lot of KO's after the rule was made
buttkick22 3 years ago
actually..you need to stop smoking crack....Ray's win percentage dropped dramatically after the tie down rule, and that was my point!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
wow u know rays win percentage after the tie down rule off hand?.......i dunno if i should be impressed or feel sad for u.....have a nice day young man keep up the good work

It's not hard to look up dipshit. I enjoy hockey fights, and Dropyourgloves dotcom will show a list of every fighters NHL fights, including reviews and messages about them. I use to write reviews for the site.

biased views written by fans usually don't tell who won the fight......"dipshit"?.......y such harsh language young man
buttkick22 3 years ago
when you have 20 different people review a fight, there is a general consensus...and the reviewer of the site pulls any reviews he consideres to be biased....for instance if Philly Mike gives a fight to Rick Tocchet in one he clearly lost, the review is pulled and the author is warned. There are sytems in place on the site to show bias for not just a certain team, but a certain player as well. Its about the best hockey site around...

must have been fun to fight without a sweater on for so many years....that's why I never sympathized when he got the shit kicked out of him after the tie-down rule came along.
ggtrains 2 years ago
rotflmao then I guess you can call every other NHL pugilist from that era a liar!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Okay, but nowhere do you just see the guy looking the other way and Clark simply going up to him when he doesn't see him and start throwing punches. Many times, the guy would be shouting things to Clark, and yes, he would start punching right away, but not just because he felt like it. How many times can you say he got an instigator penalty?
A "clean" fight is more of a respectful fight. Clark's fights were passionate and brutal, usually to really spark the team or defend a fellow player.
mcaris17 3 years ago
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
It's true, he did. I didn't realise. My image of him has changed.
Anyway, when Clark wants to fight, he'll do it and get his opponent to by any means necessary. He kept on going after him until he saw MacTavish was clearly frustrated, then he started swinging. Not the cleanest, but not the dirtiest either. I personally hate some things Chris Pronger did on route to winning the Cup in 2007, but damnit, I would love for him to be on the Leafs. A guy that is feared and respected wins you games.
mcaris17 3 years ago
There is no doubt that both Pronger and Clark were and are amazing players...all I did was point out the one aspect of Clark's game that I had a problem with. Probert is the greatest of all time, and I didn't like the fact that he rigged his jersey to come off easily to gain an advantage. Kocur never had a gimmick-just a HAMMER punch! Ray was a guy I hated because he didn't even have an undershirt on, so once his jersey was off, you couldnt do anything. After the Rob Ray rule-he got pummelled!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Fair enough, and you're right about those!
mcaris17 3 years ago
He did start his fights like a man. You don't have to skate backwards and make sure the guy you're gonna fight has everything he wanted to remove and is 100% ready, and then skate around each other for 15 seconds waiting for something to happen. Wendel did it the real manyl way. As soon as he made it clear to his opponent that he wanted to fight and his opponent was down for it, Wendel wouldn't back off like an idiot, he jumped him. As soon as you're willing to fight, you'd better be 100% ready.
mcaris17 2 years ago
When did Wendell "make it clear" he wanted to fight...after he threw 5 punches before the opponent dropped his gloves?
You just told everyone what kind of "man" you are buddy.
ggtrains 2 years ago
Well it's funny that you say what you did because if you count the amount of instigator penalties he got, you won't find many at all. And you probably don't know this, but many of his fights for to defend teammates.
Your analogy is that you have to back off and wait until the guy takes his wrist guards off, his elbow pads, and whatever else he wants and then fight. The real way is "Do you wanna fight?"
"Yes."
Then start punching.
mcaris17 2 years ago

Wendel Clark is my favourite player, no doubt. But this has nothing to do with bias. You are just plain stupid. He wouldn't be regarded as one of the best fighters and toughest guys in NHL history is he was a coward like you're foolishly implying. Hang your head in shame, and "get out of Dodge".
mcaris17 2 years ago
K....thanks again for explaining how tough guys start fights 17....guess that's why they called him Wendy when he played his away games....cause he was so darn brave.....
bye 17 - thanks for telling us you're not biased 17....we would've got the wrong idea.
ggtrains 2 years ago
haha, some called him Wendy because they obviously hated him because he was the heart and soul of a team that many people hate. But these are real saps because not only could he beat the shit out of them (and you too, mind you), but he also has a hotter wife than all of them (and you too, and you might even be a homo for all I know).
hey man, no problem! I enjoyed belittling you and I will miss it. Aw well. Take care!

southdakota1001 3 years ago
southdakota1001, shut the fuck up. You're just a wannabe touch guy who likes to insult REAL tough guys like Wendel to feel like a hero, because you know damn well that a guy like Wendel Clark could beat the fucking shit out of you.
mcaris17 3 years ago
That's well said BoSox....agree completely.
ggtrains 3 years ago
Wendel didn't do well though against BIG guys with great Stamina. (except Probert who often waited TOO long and the refs would come in)
McSorely beat him twice and they had draws in 3 fights with no winner. Mark Tinordi beat him both times they fought, and Behn Wilson, beat him but they were all good scraps.
I wish Cam Neely and Wendel Clark type players were still in the league. This disney on ice shit that is now the NHL sucks donkey ass!
He fought Probert fairly evenly though..
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Dude, Wendel wiped the floor with McSorley in the 1993 playoffs.
mcaris17 3 years ago
lmao wiped the floor with him? LMFAOWhy don't you go to dropyourgloves dotcom and read reviews from even LEAFS fans. Not 1 single person gave the fight to Clark! That's right...of the dozens of fans around the country who arent biased for either team, everyone gave the win to McSorley. and a few people called it a draw.
Do you want the punch stats from that fight? McSorley threw 32 and landed 19 while Clark threw 10 and landed 4.
Pull your head out of your ass, homer! LOL
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
I really don't care what that website might say. What you might not realise is that every non-Leaf fan in Canada is a Leaf hater. You love them or hate them; no inbetween, and many hate the Leafs more than they like their team.
If McSorley won the fight, he would have left the ice with his head held up high, not looking down and pushing the camera away. Not to mention he was half undressed and looked like he just came out of a threesome. Bob Cole even says "Clark is nailing McSorley!"
mcaris17 3 years ago
Clark landed 2 good shots, but was hugging on clinging for dear life with his head buried in McSorely's chest...no offense. Yes, McSorley had a shiner, and Wendel landed the best punch, but that doesnt make you a winner. Bob Sweeney absolutely DRILLED Jim McKenzie in a fight and split his eye open. covering his face in blood, then Jim pounded Sweeney down to the ice. Even as a Bruins fan, I have to give McKenzie the win because he took over the fight after getting nailed.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Well in that case, okay. But Wendel didn't get drilled by McSorley. Neither of them went down, and overall, yeah it was pretty even, but come on, Clark clearly got the decision. He was clinging on to him because McSorley is like 5 inches taller and probably at least 30-40 pounds heavier. But if McSorley felt like he won the fight, he would have left the ice like a hero, not pushing the camera away.
mcaris17 3 years ago
mccaris, you miss the point! you said "Wendel didn't get drilled by McSorley"
And Sweeney dint get drilled by McKenzie! Bob landed the best punch of the fight, as Clark did against McSorley! However, if you land a great shot, but get outpointed and manhandled after that, you dont win! Plain and simple!
BoSoxnation1972 2 years ago
True, but he didn't get manhandled after that. Yes, Wendel didn't bombard him like he did with his first 4 shots, but McSorley didn't do much either. He was mostly wrestling Wendel and trying to get a few shots in which he didn't. Not to mention once more, McSorley felt he lost the fight and/or got embarrassed because his pads and jersey were all over the place and his helmet was crooked and left the ice putting his hand on the camera. A guy who feels he won wouldn't do that.
mcaris17 2 years ago

Clark apparently had something against Russian players, and Primeau could count himself lucky that he didn´t get clocked by one of Clark´s patented haymakers. Thanks for posting this.
bjursten 3 years ago
Patented haymakers? LOL you mean Wendells patented "THROW A SHOT BEFORE THE OTHER GUY IS SET" strategy?" LMAO
Don't get me wrong, I loved Clark. He is one of my top 3 favorite players of all time...but he had a penchant for throwing a shot before the other guy could drop his gloves. That was his reputation around the league.
That being said, he was still tough as nails.
