@queenofcrows Thanks! The audio was recorded out in the Junction train yard in Toronto (used a Zoom H2 in 24-bit mode to capture the roar of the freight trains; otherwise they'd clip horribly)...then I adapted one of the tutorial patches in Jitter to play the train sounds whenever there was a lot of motion in the picture. (I didn't know how to record in Jitter at the time, so I screen-captured the result in Snapz and then matched it up with the high-quality master video in Final Cut.)
@YoLninYo I do lots of stuff in Processing, but for this one I used the old drawing program Painter, which has its own weird scripting language. Sure, I can send you what I used, but it's excruciatingly slow, totally unusable for normal production--I had to dedicate a machine to rendering it out over a whole summer to get it done...!
@n1ckFG thanks, actually I was more interested in the algorithm that took the random static and sort of coalesced it... my email is yolninyo at gmail dot com if you are so inclined and thanks in advance! cheers!
was this a processing script? I think you may have hit on the answer to the SETI question... Most of the TV static is signals from space... this is an ingenious way of trying to sift out patterns in that seemingly random data ...be interested to see your script

This! Is wonderful. Especially on high-def. I'd be interested in knowing how you made the audio.
