You can hear just how in awe they are of Chuck Berry's songwriting talent and his lyrical wit and cleverness. Chuck's importance in establishing what Rock and Roll songwriting is and what the music could be is incalculable.
Elvis was photographed with a lot of fellow celebs. I don't understand it why no photos were taken when Elvis met the Beatles. If Elvis didn't really like the Beatles, they sure as hell liked him. You'd think the lads from Liverpool would have had photos taken to show to their family and friends back home in England.
@yowzephyr I read that The Beatles were on acid when they met Elvis. They probably came in sporting shit-eating grins and pupils the size of tea saucers. I wouldn't want my picture taken either.
at :44 does he look like Larry Collins or what!!,1:04 looks like Johnny Wright to me( had a hit mid 60's hello Viet-Nam).but would be too young(b.1914)1:27 Sid Caesar and "Hop a Long" Cassidy ? I think 2:36 is too old for Dewey Phillips, who i believe was Sams cousin and about the same age. j
Jackie Wilson was so great-a golden gloves boxer and a dancer extraordinaire ,also Sam Cooke-we have lost so many of the truly greatest, and the pat boones, dick clarks& teen idols linger on like cat urine.
great job,jackie61 if your a 1961 vintage me too 365-1 that its the same day-let me know ive met 1 other, i agree with all the others on the I.D.'s at 1:45 i think it's billy williams 2:15 we need to have a caption contest! 3:08 most of the t.v. elvis shot out were when t.j. was on! 3:27 eddy not eddie--did you know he has been listed in the country charts at #1 with a gap so large it may stand.carl perkins was great watch him if you havent on this site- thaks ps cash went shopping !
I have always loved this jam and it was really great performers. This session where done only a few weeks after the song come out as a 45 on Chess Records. Elvis really was a fan of Chuck Berry. Thank's for posting!
guy at 1:09 is brook benton. the feller at 2:36 next to natalie wood LOOKS a bit like hal wallis but i suspect it is dewey phillips, memphis d.j. who visited elvis in hollywood and reportedly offended yul bryner by referring to him as "a short little mutha" (which, to be fair, he was)
Chuck's version is the best, But Buddy Holly and his Cricket's version IS rock n' roll. It's got that garage band feel of, "We don't know the song verbatim, but we're gonna play the hell out of it anyway."
The exclaimation is more outrage not surprise at all. An avid fan of Chuck Berry since the 50's I know his work. I fantasized that Lil Queen and Sweet Little Sixteen were written for me. LOL
Don't mind multiple versions of songs but
the source should be credited. Music can certainly serve as a unifier in this diverse
I assumed that everyone knows that Mr. Berry wrote "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" but in this day and age of so many covers of songs not being properly credited, you make a good point that identifying the writer and/or original performer of the song bears repeating.
This song was recorded December 4, 1956 at Sun Records and is available on The Complete Million Dollar Quartet . Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash are also reportedly on the recording, but Johnny Cash cant be heard.
This is very cool, and very familiar. You get any group of musicians together, from the most straight laced country singers to death metal aficionados and they will eventually get around to stumbling through a version of, "Brown Eyed Handsome Man," that sounds much like this.
I've always been a very big admirer of this Rock 'N' Roll classic hit. The Million Dollar Quartet made such very beautiful music together and they're the greatest ever quartet for sure. This video was absolutely perfect in every way, 10 Stars as always Jackie.
there is a picture on this video that says its Elvis and Jackie Wilson. It is not Jackie in this picture. I'm not sure whi it is

I too wonder why they didn't get their picture taken with Elvis! It would be like a dream come true. Maybe they were just too nervous.

I like the fun-spirit shared as they search for the lyrics. The song has such delightful
lyrics . I enjoyed it by Buddy, Elvis, Waylon and NIna Simone.Of course by the lanky one, Chuck.

excellent post, one of my favorite songs,
Buddy Holly done the best version of the song
I had fun learning the lyrics to this song, the way buddy sings it he makes if really flow fast
Did elvis ever record the song in full? i can't remember him doing it,

Yes he did. I'm gessing that you're excited about that, or to learn that, based on the three exclaimation points!!! :)
Chuck Berry has an extensive list of well known songs to his songwriting credit.
