Looks to me like the ref expected a cutback and was trying to move AWAY from the play...when the QB cut into his lane, he put up his shoulder in self-defense. It sure looks funny, though.
I read about this on yahoo and it said it wasn't intentional. Now I've seen the video and he moves forward into the guy. Maybe he has Alzheimer's or something?
I've watched football for 50 years...never seen THIS before. I'm not a fan of either team, and couldn't really care less about the outcome. However...looked intentional to me.
Garcia made a poor choice cutting back to his right. Doesn't change the fact that the ref was poised to strike, and actually appeared that he was anticipating the collision -- the QB wasn't. That's why the QB was the one who ended up on his ass.
