I don't think a postcard is a great idea, it would be better if you told them in person how you feel. And don't worry about the pool guy, anywhere you go there'll be people who won't understand you and others that will.
Ollie--some people will get it and be supportive and some won't. There are all kinds of people in the world. Don't waste too much time worrying about the assholes; its not worth it! Oh, and I think the post card idea is not so good. If it is to be in writing, then a well thought out letter explaining your feelings is better than an offhand comment on a postcard.
Usually an in-person convention is best, but it's not horrible.
Just don't write it out like you mumbled. Make it legible.
I can't remember, Ollie, but do you have siblings? If so, do they know? They could be a great support system, and you can run it by them. They know your parents just as much as you do.
From other coming out stories I've heard it can be hard to know which is the best way to come out since many people react differently. The good thing is that your financially independent and don't live in the same house as them so the risk of them kicking you out on the street isn't really there.
You know your parents better than anyone, if you know they will be fine with it then i would recommend saying it to them in person. Just think about what you'll say beforehand. Good Luck! =)
Yea, postcard is bad. Not much better than a phone call. You seem like an up-front kind of person, and if you've been practicing with new people you're meeting it would seem like a waste to tell them so indirectly.
Well, at least a letter, no? Anyway, howzit now? Any update?
