  • This needs to stop.. It's so disturbing. I used to ride Western Pleasure and this is basically the whole reason I quit. I'm so sick of the yanking on the mouths and people riding horses that are clearly lame.. Makes me sick.

  • Wow, I would be embarassed to ride like this! Trainers..ya, right. Thats disgusting and those poor horses.

  • What sloppy, unskilled, and ugly-to-watch riding! I would be embarrassed to be seen in public riding this way. I bet a they can't figure out why a good % horses go unsound by age 10. Why is anyone sponsoring or promoting such an uncoordinated, uneducated, unpleasant demonstration ....??

  • Sitting on the internet bashing the QH circuit, which is pretty well known and successful isnt doing too much for ya. Look around at a few other breed circuits or even associations, dressage, jumping, reining. HORSES ARE ATHLETIC ANIMALS. WE PUSH OURSELVES TO THE LIMIT RIDING THEM AND IN RETURN THEY HAVE THE WILL TO PUSH BACK. ALL THOSE HORSES AT THE REICHERT ARE PROBABLY WAYYYYYYYY BETTER TAKEN CARE OF AND MAINTAINED THAN 1/2 THE HORSES IN THE COUNTRY

    #re-educateyourself

  • @OCQH :And it's okay to abuse your spouse if you bring a dozen roses home after the fact, right? Just so you know, we aren't only bashing them on the internet, we're dealing with it through legal channels, too. No one says you have to push yourself to limits, that's your choice. Learn how to ride so it's not such a chore. If horse feels they have to 'push back' - ask yourself what are you doing wrong? It's about harmony and teamwork, not slavery and punishment.

  • so maybe the 5 horses you videoed...the only ones you focused on...didnt look too great, maybe you should have asked those traines if they wanted to see what they looked like, ANY GOOD HORSE RIDER KNOWS THAT WHAT YOU THINK YOU FEEL AND WHAT IT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE CAN BE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS,

  • @OCQH Alright, so you've proven you're not a mathematician. And you yell. But the point is, any of those abusers (or trainers, as you call them) are free to view the video of how stupid and mean and uneducated they look right here. Please feel free to forward it to them.

  • I think these horses look great. some good bloodlines loping around in those pens and winning alot of money.

  • @4gorden The problem is there are so many uneducated folks that think bloodlines mean something and money means more...these are living, breathing, feeling horses being abused here, you think they care about bloodlines and money...I think they don't. I think they care about pain. That's where people like you and people like me will always differ.

  • u only focused on like 5 horses.....of about 100....

  • @OCQH : Do some math. There was nowhere near 100 horses in this video. And even if it happened AQHA etc allowed 5 out of every 100 horses to be openly abused against their welfare rules...why? How did those 5 horses get to be the lucky ones that stewards didn't see the prohibited equipment or abuse on? Horse abuse is horse abuse. 5 times or 100, it is still wrong. Only one dead lame horse out of 40...so that must mean it's okay to ride it, huh?

  • I found this video excruciatingly painful to watch. The horses were being yanked down onto the fore hand and couldn't see where they were going. But worse, several were lame and one was so bad he could hardly drag himself around. What are these people thinking of? If the riders are too stupid or cruel to care, where are the judges, vets and other officials?

  • @Jasco47 : AQHA stewards, whose duties include prevention of any inhumane treatment, were there, watching this daily, as were the show officials, according to witness statements. The vets, too, were on site, & even sponsored the $250,000 2 y/o WP series, and were contracted by the Reicherts to be there for the 9 day show. Rule 443 AQHA prohibits draw reins. Rules 104, 401, 441 prevent ensure horses are treated with dignity and respect.. Other rules were ignored by judges during the classes.

  • All of you need education. It sounds like all of you have absolutely no education when it comes to show horses. Yes, some trainers are horrific. Mine, however, is not a severe trainer at all. The horses actually follow him where ever he goes. These are quarter horses bred to do what they do. Their gates are natural to them. You should read the changes that have been made to the pleasure world. I think it's awful that you post derogatory video like this. Take a look at a reiners training

  • @FinUpInIt : Quarter horses were not bred to move like cripples, they know how to use their gaits as nature intended, with balance. But put on these awful unbalanced riders who don't know how use draw reins, and you get the artificially-gaited QH that is useless. It's sad that these folks need to pick the most gentle, complacent breed to bully. The rest of the world can see that they don't know what they are doing. Any 'trainer' who needs to use gadgets (on babies, no less!) isn't worth spit.

  • Shocking and so sad to watch. Constant jabbing horses in the mouth. Confused and lame horses... I hate horse cruelty full stop!!! I don't care what discipline it is, treat your horse kindly!

  • As disgusting as this is, thank you for for posting this video.

This is one of the most prestigious pleasure events in the country & these horses deserve more than this. To perform after being jerked on & jabbed by spurs just to line the pockets of their trainers, owners, or breeders is so revolting. This industry has to change!

  • So why are you only picking on the Reichert Celebration? Why not Quarter Horse congress or the world shows? Why not just go after the Western Pleasure industry as a whole instead of targeting one specific group that gives tens of thousands of dollars every year in charitable donations and scholarships? I don't think it's fair to post a video entitled "Reichert Celebration" and then make it look like they are mistreating horses. They didn't invent the discipline.

  • @debdamiano Named Reichert Celebration because it was filmed there, and the horses there are being mistreated. If you provide video footage from any show , anywhere, where horses are treated inhumanely despite welfare regulations, I'll be glad to side for the horses. Btw, their 'charity' doesn't have any info available to the public that I could find, despite being non-profit, but they do give away four $500 scholarships/yr. at the 1.5 million dollars in prize money annual show.

  • This is very sad! I train horses in rawhide hackamores and do not use bits anymore at all, because I can do everything (from cow work to advanced dressage, archery, etc.) in a hackamore. My horses respond off of my body, not my hands. Yet, I see this kind of cruelty all the time. Even people riding in snaffle bits don't realize that they are working off of pain. It's too easy to point the finger. Very few are enlightened. My students know the difference...

  • If they were here they would be shouted at to keep their hands damn well still, DONT PULL and keep your bloody legs still... they all look so jammed up.

  • draw reins on a long shank curb??? wtf??? *shoots own head*

  • all horses pulled onto the forehand. is this what they good saddle horse training? wonder how many last into ther 30s with good knees... What's cruel here is forcing horses to move in such an unnatural manner. If I place a curb on my horse he'll move just like this without any pressure on the reins. I don't use a curb not because it hurts his mouth but because he's not phisically educated to round the neck without going behind the vertical and falling on the forehand. THAT's what ppl don't see

  • This is just awful to watch... the horses are yanked in the mouth with awful rolkur head positions... they all look so miserable too......I have seen western riders with soft hands and happy horses... sadly not here.

  • No happy athlete's in the video !

  • Back in 2003, Western Pleasure began to improve a little. Looks like it has regressed terribly since then.

  • AQHA stewards are at every sanctioned event! You people need to get your facts straight. And contact the AQHA with your concerns.

  • @punkdoo1 AQHA has been contacted, don't worry. So have all the sponsors and other participating breed organizations. If there were stewards at this warm up, they failed to uphold AQHA/NSBA regulations preventing infliction of pain on horses, and are liable for negligence. Update your facts...ours are straight.

  • what's going on there?! i've NEVER seen so many stupid and cruel riders on one patch! why doesn't say anybody a word against that?!

  • ...aks up but is immediately silenced by your cruel and brutal Ego!!!!!!

  • @Twix2456: You must be kidding right???? Just because you wrap your horses into blankets from ear to tail in heated barns doesn't mean you can torture them the moment you get into the saddle!!! And show me please one human athlete that performs in his or her discipline while being jerked by the hair, stabbed in the ribs and having the chin tied down to the chest.... Any pain a human athlete takes upon himself during training is by personal choice - does your horse have a choice???? I bet it spe

  • stupid cruel idiotic riding. Never should be legal.

  • Just did some research on their website. They are sanctioned by AQHA and several other organizations. So AQHA has a huge horse abuse problem.....

  • @dragonharte8 : Email me @ Horsecare4you@aol.com and I will let you know the details of where the investigation is going so far, who has been contacted, etc.

  • Fun and Horses

Thank you and do let me know what you find out. AQHA and NCHA are obligated to follow USEF. So let me know asap.............thanks.

  • Its like a scene from Dantes Inferno. A lot of riders need an awful lot of education.

  • This is completely revolting. As a horse owner who competed at this show I am angered. These horses are athletes and when not out doing their jobs are treated and live better lives than most people. It's not the riders who should be "ashamed " of themselves, but rather the pompous fools who have nothing better to do with their time than sit and ridicule others. If you don't like, don't go. Get a life!! The true idiots aren't the ones seen in this video. But the ones making illiterate comments!

  • @twix2456 I don't understand how lame horses, horses being yanked in the mouth, horses dragging hind feet and horses breaking down as young as two and three (with navicular bone disease a common theme among them) is not revolting? Riding two year olds in this manner is revolting! The people on here commenting on this are hardly pompous, most of them would also be horse owners and lovers, just minus the incentive money brings into riding which seems to make riders, trainers...

  • @twix2456 and spectators alike more than happy to turn a blind eye to this kind of carry on. These people simply have opinions, same as you. They form them based on the information they have garnered, whether by seeing this in the flesh, on film, reading about it or even having been involved about it. Manners in which have doubtless also played a part in the forming of your own opinions. Some of them may be more uneducated on the matter, some maybe not so much. But I think your own advice..

  • @twix2456 applies here....if you don't like it, don't read it! Their vitriol is far less harmless than the actions made upon those animals unfortunate enough to fall into the hands of those who view the above kind of training not only as acceptable but as preferable. Turning a blind eye and "not watching" because they "don't like it" would be far more gutless and shameful than what many people are trying to do to attempt to right the wrongs perpetrated on horses in the name of money.

  • @twix2456 : AQHA's Rules 104, 441, and 401 are clearly violated here, as is the AHC Welfare Code of Practice, endorsed by AQHA, ApHC and APHA. I'm not sure you really want to admit to having been a participant at this event, because that means you were aware of inhumane practices but negligently failed to report them to the show officials.

  • @twix2456 THANK YOU!!! My sentiments exactly!

  • Well, if this is in the United States and sanctioned by USEF, I would like the nameo of the competition. I have a legal action being prepared against USEF and this clearly demonstrates major rule violations.

Also I need to contact the film maker.

  • @dragonharte8 The name of the competition is Reichert Celebration. It is not a USEF sanctioned show as far as I can tell, and the breed organizations have been lax to state whose rules were to be followed, they think AQHA's. So far, it looks like it might be a high dollar private show put on by the Reichert family, involving several American stock horse breed associations and the National Snaffle Bit Assoc. Will keep you posted as I find out more...

  • This is so incredibly wrong!!!!

  • übel übel, ich mag solche reitweise net

  • Boa.... echt übel! k.....

  • Is that called riding? Hideous!

  • horrific!

  • absolutely disgusting. Those riders should be ashamed of themselves.

  • grauenvoll :o(

  • Iv never seen such unhappy horses!

  • fucking revolting.

  • This is even sadder because a lot of these horses are probably in the big money two and three year old futurities.

  • @foureyeddragon00 : Sadder still, Equine Sports Medicine vet group of Texas sponsored the big money 2 year old WP futurity classes...how is that for ethics?

  • @Funandhorses They likely figure they will make their money back when the two year olds are all broke down three year olds. ;)

  • @Funandhorses And those same vets probably deadened a bunch of tails at the same show!!!

  • @KaseyRenee03 that's right. top dressage + jumping athletes are routinely abused (google rollkur) and it upsets me as much as this...and reining is not better. and i'm not even talking about what the yearling have to go trough in the racing industry. i'm not against WP, but against abuse of authority, wether on an animal or a human. and FYI, a horse is mature at 8 years of age. yes, EIGHT.

  • Thats just horrible. Look at the jerking the horses have to put up with. You don't see professional dressage riders pulling on horses like that.

  • @chloeandbart um its not dressage and there completely different bits

  • @ChloeRosie14: True: dressage regulates bits and these wire, narrow and twisted mouthpieces that WP riders love are banned from usage in that discipline.

  • Comment removed

  • @KaseyRenee03 ...When someone looks at this video and sees nothing wrong, then that someone knows they are as uneducated, as cruel and as unskilled as the riders in this video. This is why the American stock horse breed associations really need to start educating their members. It's not your fault, Kelley, you just haven't had any good learning opportunities yet...but thankfully, you can start now. Give your 2 year olds a break so they can mature while you start doing some research.

  • at 0:14 yak-yak-yak in the horse's mouth, at 0:53 same jerking, at 1:03 open mouth, at 1: 04 nose on the chest (search rollkur on youtube), at 1:14 rythmic pulling on draw reins + curb bit, at 2:17 mouth wide open trough pain, at 2:30 yak-yak-yak in the horse's mouth, on curb bit + draw reins, open mouth again and spurring for good measure...do you really need me to go on ??? or are you blind ?

  • I'm sorry, I didn't see any horses on this video being abused or neglected so I'm not exactly sure what "mistreatment" you are looking at...

  • @KaseyRenee03 sure, if you're not ashamed to ride a two year old baby, then you lack the basic understanding on how horses work...go educate yourself ! google "time and rate of skeletal maturation in horses"

  • @KaseyRenee03 I completely agree with you. I recognized several people in this video that I am friends with, they would never dream of mistreating horses. This is not bad. I mean really its the Reichert. This is western pleasure, I ride and train it and I see nothing wrong. I can assure several of these people that people have their horses x-rayed to make sure their skeletal system can handle the training. Western Pleasure is altering of the natural gait. You people get over yourselves.

  • @rly09 If I ask my grandpa if he saw anything wrong in lashing his sons with a leather belt he would say no. He thought it was completely normal as did his father and grandpa before him. My dad however, was inteligent enough to understand that was not ok and I never had a finger laid on me and never gave him any trouble for it. He also used to subdue his dogs when I was a kid, these days he teaches them in a whole different approach and the dogs are even better. that's actual human inteligence

  • Discusting this HAS to be stopped for the horses sake...............

  • Y'all shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about. None of us are coming to your jobs or event and bitching about the way you do things so please refrain so from doing it to ours. Thanks.

  • @KaseyRenee03 we know well enough about horses to comment on their mistreatment...! and not all "jobs" are equal in didgnity...(i.e. you cannot set equal a firefighter and a mafioso), so yeah, we will continue to bitch about how things are done !

  • @KaseyRenee03 Oh please, don't tell me that this is your job! So, do me a favour and explain, what you think this kind of training is supposed to be good for. I'm soooo curious. Oh and no we are not bitching, we are angry!

  • @KaseyRenee03 I have ridden i WP Classes and I would never treat my horse like that!

  • This is why i love Mr. Dysli, Dr. Heuschmann, Philippe Karl, the Dorrance Brothers (esp. Bill True Horsemanship through feel), Thomas Günther (Pro Ride) and Natural Horsemanship! If you need to jerk a horses mouth or kick him with your spurs you are not ready to go to a competition. These horses aren't soft and supple, they do it because they fear the pain. And these unnatural gaits of the pleasure people. As Linda Parelli says on the L&HB "is he sour in his feet?" and the answer was "no it's a

  • My goodnes how western riding has become another circus for freaks much like dressage. For god sake a horse is not meant to go around with it's head on it's chest or dragging along the ground & all these contrapions to make them go in such an unnatural way should be out lawed imo. What happened to good old fashioned working quarter horses??????

  • This saddens me. It makes me sick. Poor horses, suffering, even at a prestigious event. And how many of these are just 2 year olds, just babies whose spinal and joint growth plates haven't had a chance to seal?

  • It saddens me that so many people think it's ok to ride in just draw reins. Actually, no. It saddens me that so many people think THAT is RIDING! WTF....

  • you guys suck

  • surely this is a very dangerous place...so all the riders have their horse looking on the ground in case there's any mine ??
